Videos of the last 2 bounties befor fighting last boss, i can only record 5 mins at a time so unable to do full boss fights.

build is 10 str 8con 18dex 18per 18int 3 res Moon godlike

talents are Arcane veil and hardened veil asap,

secrets of rime,

snakes reflex *very good at boosting defense agaist aoe,

weapon and shield,

superior defelction,

body control *if you get petrafied or stun locked its GG,

deep pockets,

arcane veil boosts defelction by a massive amount and will save you from melee and archers!!! it is amazing.

i put just enough points into lore to have 8 with vietrros fornmal footwear. scroll of moonwell is very very strong gives heals and more defence.

Survival is at 10 so that you can rest for accuracy beasts befor dragons or accuracy vessels befor faceless.

get cauncelhauts crushing doom before doing alpine dragon, bog dragons. If you do not get it before adra dragon you will might need to kite her in a circle and use a bow/rod if you get to many miss's . if you wait until lvl 16 you will have no trouble though.

Steadfast as weapon because immune to fears makes dragons sooooooooo much easier almost trivial.

Little Savior for shield for bonus defense. sanguine plate for chest frenzy makes spell casting much faster... but can be scary at times as you can see in the one video but you know you are in trouble when llengraths safegaurd procs.

all the other armor is optional fro wizard its best to go for defense and accuracy seeing as your spells already hit so hard.

I did not use any retaliate items because wizard defensive spells boost your deflection up so high you don't get by melee very often. It is also preferable to avoid being surrounded, but it would work well with flame shield if you went a more tanky route.

Chillfog and freezing pillar will dominate almost everthing mid and early game once you get frozen rake its easy mode to shred big groups piercing burst is also insanly strong at shredding groups if they surround you especially if you petrify them first.

Video where i pull a group of fast mobs on accident for the redwater lagufaeth bounty.

https://youtu.be/04kRAvCz6j4

ray of fire, death ray and bitter mooring are the go to single target spells and if used well can cleave a few targets.

Ice blights are immune to frost dmg but will not move if blinded so it is still good to use chill fog on them so they just sit in one spot. The other blights will also sit in blind and take dmg.

Petrify every boss you can! the pillars wiki will tell you if a boss is immune so check it before big fights like dragons.

Please recommend me a build for the main charater. I'd like him to pass most dialog checks and if possible be a melee class. So what's the best race, class and stat allocation for a diplo fighter ?
Is it worth for the first (and most likely only) playthrough to use only npcs the game provides instead of custom- creating your whole party ?

Tanky paladin (Darcozzi or Shieldbearer). Dump Mig and Dex, pump Res and Int, put the rest wherever. Race doesn't make much difference.

A fighter without Mig and Dex ? Is this really feasible ?
Does it mean he can tank, but not deal considerable damage ?

Yep, exactly.

You did specifically want a fighter who's good at diplomacy. The relevant stats there are Res, Int, and Per. Res is a defensive stat and Int is super-useful for a support/tank paladin (bigger auras, longer durations for Exhortations), which means a defensive/tanky build. They're not only feasible, they're extremely useful.

If you want a damage-dealer, you have tons of options (fighter, rogue, ranger, Flames of Devotion based paladin, barbarian...) but you will most likely be dumping Res and very likely Int, which means you won't be much good at diplomacy.

Want something a little offbeat but super-effective? Darcozzi Commander paladin. Dump Mig and Dex aaaaallll the way down, go with below-average Con, pump Res and Int allll the way up and above-average Per. Look out for talents that let you buff your teammates' Accuracy (there are at least two relevant ones). Then pick the first Marking weapon you can find: it'll give +10 ACC to anyone attacking the same target as you. Then coordinate with your baddest damage-dealer, tank, and use your fabulous support abilities to keep things going smoothly. Boom, up to +30 ACC for a party member of your choice, which is equivalent to ten levels worth, so watch the giblets fly.

There are a couple of Marking weapons you can get fairly early into Act 2, but I won't spoil them here.

Correct, although a priest can alleviate the lack of might with mid-to-late level buffs. Or, you can use the fighter PC for diplomacy and tanking, while leaving the damage output to other characters.

You'd be amazed how many things are feasible. That's the nice thing about PoE's attribute system. Sure, it doesn't make any sense in terms of what each attribute represents, but once you start looking under the hood, it allows for amazing versatility. So while Codex autists where spending time whining about how Might is illogical, a lot people out there were making tank Wizards, damage Priests, ranged Fighters and similarly weird shit.

It's a tragedy that Pillars came out so unbalanced , at launch the game was so easy you could just tank&spank your way through PoTD with the most brainless MMO style party featuring healer, tank and dps. The complexity was always there, but the game just didn't push you to look for alternative solutions. It's only after WM2 came out and they more or less finished polishing the combat, it became a completely different game where's its actually lots of fun to come up with different builds, crazy party combinations and so on.

Are they (mostly) done patching this? Or is another big patch incoming for this?

They're done. For now. In principle. They were supposed to have finished at 3.03 but came up with a couple more since then.

Although who knows, maybe there'll be a GOTY Diamond Edition with another patch when Pillars 2 comes out...

Has anyone else had huge framerate issues with Northweald and the Stalwart mines? Stalwart mines drops to ~8fps in some areas and Northweald runs at ~15fps. Performance in this game can be atrocious when some spells are cast as well. This is one of my main issues with the game.

Yup, I didn't have any performance issues, either. Then again, I usually don't complain if it's at least 16 fps or so.

I had a few crashes. Pretty much all of them happened when the game switched from text adventures back to a standard environment. One of those was in Northweald, but I'm not sure whether I just clicked on something I wasn't supposed to click on yet.

Hi.

whoa. Whoa. WHOA!

The Road to Eternity in full? *squeak!*

I recall watching the very first 14 minutes of it on YT but none of what followed was available.

And later today there will be another Pillars of Eternity 2 hint, then something bigger on Thursday. What a wonderful week this is turning out to be.

OMG! J.E. Sawyer has a P.J. Harvey picture on his office wall and is wearing a David Bowie Labyrinth t-shirt during a metting! Two of my favorite singers and movie!!! *high five*

Thanks,
Randal

You're going to have a heart attack at this rate, Randal. I hope there's no more good news this week, just for the sake of your health!

That enthusiasm is infectious. Every time Randall posts, I have to launch Oblivion just to put myself in the mood that's more fitting for Codex.

Oof, so many options, just about all of them will work. Here's one slightly offbeat one, which builds on synergies between character and item abilities and requires a highly mobile play style:

Front row:
* PC Darcozzi tank (with Zealous Focus; Marking melee weapon as soon as you can get one)
* Pallegina (Flames of Devotion paladin with Zealous Charge)
* Eder (damager build)

You can give either PC or Pallegina Zealous Endurance if you want, then switch between it and Zealous Charge or Zealous Focus situationally.

Back row:
* Grieving Mother (ranged damager build, specialise in hunting bow, get Persistence as early as you can)
* Sagani (gunner build -- Swift Aim, Gunner etc., but give Itumaak the +50% damage if DoT is applied talent)
* Hiravias (defensive build, with sword and board in one weapon set, Marking ranged weapon in another set)

Strategy:
Keep one empty row between your front and back rows, and Zealous Charge up all the time. Be mobile. When swarmed, make use of your mobility: retreat and regroup. For trash fights you'll be able to manage entirely with per-encounters and GM's abilities. When the going gets tough(er), switch Hiravias to sword and board and move him to the front row, and let rip with his cone-shaped debuff/AoE attack spells.

Playing with this kind of setup is fun and rather IE-like -- you'll be relying on movement and positioning a lot, to get at the most dangerous back-row enemies and then to get out of trouble. Coordination is also crucial -- you will want to coordinate Sagani, Itumaak, and GM, PC + Eder or Pallegina, and Hiravias + Sagani or GM. If you get it right it'll be a wrecking ball: PC will give Edér or Pallegina +10 to +30 ACC, Hiravias will give Sagani +10 ACC, Sagani will get/give ACC to Itumaak, GM will give a massive boost to Itumaak's damage, and Pallegina will give everybody a faster attack rate twice per encounter.

The main challenge will be to find a way to make up for the missing priest. You'll do this by relying on your paladins' support abilities, a handful of Hiravias' support spells, and scrolls. Make sure you have at least two characters with sufficient Lore to use scrolls, and prepare a bunch with immunities for use in boss fights -- Fear and Paralysis (and later Petrification) are the nastiest ones you'll want to counter.

(If you want, you can substitute Aloth for Hiravias and rely on items and scrolls even more to make up for the lack of support spells. If you want to make things easyboring and favour defence, substitute Durance for Hiravias and NVM the scrolls; I don't like this one so much though because while it's very effective it makes fights drag on more -- you'll have bonkers defences but weak AoE attacks and debuffs, and whittling down all those mobs will become a bit of a chore.)
