Is it? Looks to me like it is nerd pandering for people who aren't nerds.

The book has a lot of D&D references, which for me was the best part. I see none of that in the trailer.

That last line had me cracking up. Hahaha. Holy shit that's gold.

This is literally the Member Berries movie.

It's sad that the guys from Stranger Things are doing a better job, of how Spielberg used to make movies, and do them better than what he is doing now.

Is this better or worse than the guy who wrote Lucky Wander Boy getting to be a showrunner of Game of Thrones?

Honestly, they should be making the Silo series (Wool, Shift and Dust) before they make this.

But that shit seems to be in permanently limbo. Ridley Scott optioned the rights years back and has just been sitting on them.

Wow felipe sure did go on a rampage ITT, too bad I'm so late to the party.

The book is just about the most fun I've ever had with a pulp literature. I've listened to the audiobook during my runs and those two weeks turned me into a super athlete. Couldn't wait to go for another run. Pure nerd delight.

The movie will be dog vomit, judging from the trailer. All the telltale signs of 21st century blockbuster Hollywood - plasticky, cliched, instant soup emotions, safe and dull.

Will there be a new easter egg hunt style alternate reality game alongside the movie adaptation?

http://www.jointhequest.io/ may only be the promotional website.

Spielberg was always shit. The only true great film he ever made was Jaws and that was probably because he had some talented people on set to help him out (for starters, Robert Shaw, who was the one who came out and wrote the Indianapolis scene, one of the best moments in the film).

What surprises me is that he seems to have lost the technical aspect too. That was he specialty anyway, but after a certain point his movies ceased to be impressive for some reason.

No I disagree you might not like everything he did (I don't) but he knows how to craft a movie.

That is like self-pity nerd's ideal escapism vision.

If you give that label "nerd" not one single iota of weight then it mean exactly zip.

Because honestly, at the end of day who give a shit that you remember everything possible around a book/game/show... You remember them because the process leading to that (watching/playing/reading) is enjoyable and you did that every so often that you remember them all. But you have other things in life so you dont center your ego on that fact.

    Anyway, back to the trailer

It's lots of sound and fury, but nothing about the plot, man. Sure it present the idea of what VR can be. but what about the movie? What is the story?

    Nada.

I reserve my opinion about the movie.

On a technical level, yes. But Spielberg is no true artist and never was.

It's not a trailer for the film we are discussing. A teaser is the first video footage before a trailer.

We are pontificating about a teaser.

She'll read the book to you.

Eh. No. Saving Private Ryan was pretty bad. I thought it was terrible. At least if you saw more than 5 World War WW2 movies in your life. It became one big shitty rip-off of better war movies even before the guy get's shot in the helmet, takes off his helmet, then gets shot in the head. It was a big mish mash of stolen scenes. I wanted to like the movie and went in with an open mind, but I could not understand all the love. The Big Red One was way better, and it had Lee Marvin. The Longest Day was also better. But hey, it's Spielberg and it's IMPORTANT.

Also, The Bridge Over the River Kwai was better and had something to think about. Also The Great Escape was also better. And Patton. Patton is probably my favorite. And Come and See, which I own, but I'll probably never watch again. And a Bridge too Far.
