Found a neat item that let me stomp the rocks last night. One of the rocks had a hatch under it, with a bunch of 1-heart-offering items. Came out rather thin on health but rather overpowered. New secrets are p.cool stuff.

Yeah, some really random stuff. The leo sign lets you crush rocks under foot.

The gimp mask is awesome, especially if you find a blood bank or IV bag,, or a demon begger. The demon bum friend? Holy fuck it's OP. P much 1:1 red heart to soul heart conversion.

blowing up mushrooms (the ones like rocks) drops liberty cap -- my guess is other items can drop this way too. Blue Flames can be blown up with bombs and seem to have a 50% chance to drop soul hearts. I blew up 6 and got 2 soul hearts.

Also, lucky rock = all rocks drop a coin when blown up.

Ring Worm. Jesus, this thing is _awesome_.

The skulls are kind of a crapshoot too. They'll fairly regularly turn into turrets when you blow them up but I've found the occasional item/trinket by doing it as well. Doesn't seem common enough to be worth 'sploding all of them, but there could be some secret to it (Like the marked rocks) which I haven't figured out yet.

Had a fun run but sadly died on mom's heart. Had absolutely shit for HP (Two red hearts for basically the entire womb) but huge rate of fire and damage, had that "Short range but huge tears" item too. Could flamethrower stuff down quick but since HP was so tight I didn't make it through the heart. Got her down to 20ish percent before the spinning brimstone phase did me in. Kind of a bummer but fun none the less.

Also dunno if you guys have been feeling this way or not but I'm kinda digging Rebirth more than the original (With the DLC) so far. Could just be because it's the right game for the right time for me since I can do relatively short and complete runs while I've got bits of time throughout the day, but all the new additions really seem to improve the game.

Dunno if anything in the womb functions this way. Good catch on the blue fires too; I'd noticed they can be blown up but never got any hearts from them.

I'd wager smashing these special things enough might be a means of unlocking more shit the way smashing rocks unlocks the lucky rock.

Oh, has anyone figured out what the rainbow poop does? I've destroyed several and it never seems to have any effect. Maybe it alters your luck? Luck display on the screen seems broken, I've only seen it go up to 2 bars once.

My gf beat Isaac without unlocking the Polaroid first. No idea if bug or if it was due to the number of "holy" items she had. Love the new tear effects, like fear or charm, they are stupid strong, but so is old Mom's Contacts.

Holy shit, the purple heart item does not fuck around. Thought I had won for sure and then heart finished me off when it had like 2 pixels of health left; it fucking stopped (reversed?) the direction of it's laser spiral bullshit. Just realized I had a full health pill I forgot to use.

Hmmm, didn't work for me, just randomed samson again (was a disgustingly OP run at the end, satan died in less than a minute, all hail guppy) and never got anything besides the chest in mom's heart room. Maybe I need to get the ending where you go in that chest on that character? I always opt for sheol if I can, and if I win that fight I'm usually dripping in soul hearts and devil deals so it's a sure thing.

Clocked around 12 hours since release. Normal mode seems easier than the original with Wrath of the Lamb DLC, or maybe I have been reasonably lucky with getting good item combinations. Stuff like Unicorn Stump with (damaging) orbitals is almost an auto-win. Decent money reserve and Magic Fingers (spacebar shop item that has Necronomicon/Death-card effect for 1 cent, no recharge timer; can spam that mofo) is just stupidly good. Some of the new devil deal items are also over the top, bum demon practically sorts out all HP problems for the run, Head of Krampus melts late game bosses, Lil' brimstone is basically a slightly more inconvenient Brim etc.

Some other shit I noticed:

-Stompy items basically sort out money woes, seem to get Lucky Rock consistently with the amount of rocks you break (makes the run even more trivial if you have Magic Fingers)
-Breaking mushrooms can also get you Magic Mushroom (all stats up) or Mini Mushroom (speed+range)

Yeah, they seemed to have moved the old blue rock for damage up thing to a more general 'lots of shit can drop items when broken' thing, which is cool. Got ghost baby out of a skull today. Also saw open access to the cathedral for the first time, via a god room.

One thing I like most about Rebirth so far is that they cranked up the difficulty for Mom's heart/It lives. In the original if you had a powerful enough run to beat Mom the Heart was pretty much a formality. Sheol is still pretty easy though, compared to the Cathedral that is.

First Rebirth Satan kill. Turns out Ludovico technique and brimstone is REALLY GODDAMN GREAT. So much so I even got the Momma's Boy achievement, the lost contact let my brimstone circle of death block most shots too. UNF. Didn't think to take a screenshot of my kill (Took one of the "Isaac VS Satan" screen like an idiot) so have a consolation prize.


(incidentally that was an absolute bear to find on youtube. no idea why)
