I keep playing a few runs of this every now and then.
But it never keeps my attention for more than a few hours, really.

What keeps killing my boner more than anything are those magnetic mountains. Having enough TNT or not is a matter of luck more than anything, and then I even had the luck to run from one magnetic mountain into the next a few times. Naturally, everyone went crazy by the time I figured the actual direction to walk in.
I really don't get who enjoys such a game killer.

Edit: I confused this with another game, Curious Expedition.

I don't remember that event.
Which expedition has it?

e.
thesheeep you're mixing Renowned Explorers with Curious Expedition.
Latter has battle system where you pick some dice while in former you could make nuns cry with your complaints about fishy smell.

Oh my, you are right

Wow, they really kind of melted into the same in my memory, even though I only play Curious Expedition every now and then. Maybe I should check out the actual Renowned Explorers again...

Coming Soon: Renowned Explorers - Daring Dates DLC
After the release of the original Renowned Explorers in 2015 and the More to Explore and Emperor's Challenge DLC in 2016 and 2017 respectively, we're planning to release another expansion to the Renowned Explorers universe in 2018. The Renowned Explorers community has given us a lot of input about what direction they want the game to take and we figured it's about time we really listen. So without further ado, we're proud to present: Renowned Explorers - Daring Dates!

In this DLC, instead of taking a crew of three explorers on an epic adventure of tales and treasure, you can take one crew member... on a date! That might sound easier than it is, though. Renowned Explorers' band of characters is made up of seasoned explorers, and they are hard to impress! Where to go on your first date, for example? The Museum? Paris? Or straight to the exotic hideaways of the Emerged Island in the Caribbean?

And that's just picking the location... How about picking the right outfit?! A date is essentially a lot like an expedition: you have to prepare for it. Bring the wrong gear or start an encounter with an aggressive attitude and you might kill the mood in just one turn.

If all goes well, though, and you play your cards right as a 19th-century globetrotting Casanova, you might even get the chance to go on a date with the most Renowned of all the Explorers: Mathieu Rivaleux!

Renowned Explorers: Daring Dates is still in development and it's too soon to pinpoint an exact release date. But if you want to stay posted and maybe even try your chances in a closed beta encounter with Anna or Victor, for example, be sure to sign up for the Abbey Games newsletter [reusgame.us6.list-manage.com] or stay in touch through the Renowned Explorers community hub. We hope to see you on some adventurous dates sometime in 2018!

April 1st can be so cruel, that dlc would be a day one buy.

And to add to general topic: renowned explorers is a game i'm quite fond of tbh, i come back to it every once in a while to do 1 or 2 runs then forget it about for a bit until mood strikes.
I find the overall esthetic and vibe to be quite charming and gameplay and management aspect is interesting enough to keep my attention.

Game is one of the few on my steam account that never gets uninstalled, i can not give it a better compliment then that. Then again I do seem to have a particular fondness for flawed gems (though in this case i'd argue RE achieves what it sets out to do so isn't a flawed gem at all) and 7/10 games so make of that what you will.

Quest For The Holy Grail FREE DLC, and Definitive Edition on December 13th!
5 December - Rutger
We have been teasing for a while now that we weren't completely done with Renowned Explorers, so we are proud to announce the third and final expansion:

Renowned Explorers: Quest For The Holy Grail DLC
This new expansion will contain a new expedition in which you follow in the spiritual footsteps of a certain whip-wielding archeologist in search for the ultimate treasure in the Middle-East. Meet mysterious Djinns, alluring belly dancers and even some spoiled cats! And what are those dastardly Anti-Explorers up to this time?

The best part: this new expansion will be completely free for all current and future owners of the Renowned Explorers base game!

Soundtrack and Art Book
At the same time, we will also be releasing the two oft requested extras.
  • A remastered Original Soundtrack with the best music from the game, including all expedition and overworld music
  • An Art Book with a selection of concept and in-game art, including never before seen sketches for characters that didn't make the cut!
Both the Soundtrack and the Art Book will be available as separate packages or as part of the new Renowned Explorers: Definitive Edition bundle.

Renowned Explorers: Definitive Edition
To celebrate the last expansion for Renowned Explorers, we are launching a new bundle that collects everything Renowed Explorers in a complete bundle with a big discount. If you are still missing one or more of the expansions, or just need the Soundtrack and Art Book, this one's for you!

Also request for a mod to move this into tactics sub-forum.

Tempted to try this one out. Is the game meaty (& varied in content) enough nowadays in its definitive edition form?
You don't even need all the DLC or whatever, it's basically just extra events and enemy types. Base game hooked me for a solid 20 hours.
Also extra expeditions, playable characters, optional game mode...
Agree. It's more flavors of sauce to choose from, desirable but unnecessary to what is already a mouth-watering and nutritious meal.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Suddenly, news, but not really news.

Tales of the Abbey: Renowned Explorers
Abbey Games in 2014 AD - 2017 AD

0507292c7d1be34f85d961883c0edf75c8381711.gif

In the previous tales, we shared stories of the start of Abbey Games. Today, we share about the exciting exploration of
Renowned Explorers!

One thing was certain; The Abbey was filled with chaotic energy! All the monks, old and new, sat together and basically mashed ideas together to see what would come out. A big difference from the four that basically set the line for Reus! It's safe to say the game went in all kind of directions! It was going to be an action RPG! No, an RTS! No! A turn based game! No, a fighter!(?)

One of the early mock ups of Renowned Explorers.

Not only the game was an adventure, we even started making our own tech: AbbeyCore. It was an engine made from scratch. All these factors gave us a lot of fun, but also little to show in one year. And we only had one year left to make something! Safe to say, things were getting hot.... It was time to get serious...
357cfbb7fe64cc9be05dec8da5fe789d96074de6.png

Our attempt to getting serious.

The monks double downed on the events, treasures and characters, while keeping the encounters interesting and fresh. Of course, there was still room for fun. One event had the dialogue of an... adult... movie (without obscenity, think of Hildegard!) as a test case. However, it
did
got sent for review by our editors, who were kind of puzzled on what this whole dialogue was about! Also, have you ever tried clicking on Earl's portrait in an encounter? You should. ;)

The release of Renowned Explorers was rocky at first, but a tight community and the helping hand of a legendary reviewer helped the game to climb to the top! Would the Abbey even still be making games without that review? Maybe we would've switched to the darkside, creating AbbeyCoin or NFT's. Luckily, we don't live in that timeline!

A museum of your pieces, that sadly never made it.

We learned a lot from Renowned Explorers;
The humor and character of Renowned Explorers is an important thing for our current secret project!
But after two expansions and a lot of fun creating stories and characters, it was time to move to the next game. The development of Renowned Explorers already showed some cracks in the walls of the Abbey, but Godhood would really force us to define ourselves.

Tune in next Monday to see the third chapter of our tales at the news section of the Godhood page!

P.S. If you want to chat with us, feel free to join our Discord or follow the Abbey Games Developer!

The first two responses, though...
Renowned Explorers 2 as a roguelite deckbuilder please. My money is waiting.
Reported prior post. This idea needs more attention. *throws money*

Even when they misfired abbey games were never derivative, last thing they need is to chase the Slay the Spyre trend.

That museum would have been fun to have in the end of game recap screen, if they do the sane thing and stick to the RE formula for the sequel only bigger and better hope that makes it in.

Seriously make RE2 already damnit.
