Items boxes didn't eleminate backtracking, at all.

Yes, the game is amazing. Graphics are even better than the RE1 remake. Shit looks awesome, and I love the old RE's.

Now all we need is remake of RE2 (which is coming) RE3 remake AND Code Veronica X for PC HD remake

THen everything will be good in the world.

I didn't play this prequel back in the day, is it any good? I liked REmake a lot but I heard mixed things about this one, mainly the co-op mechanic being annoying and lots of backtracking to pick up items.
Depends if you liked Code Veronica or not, because that's where most fans rank it in the classic series. The plot is just as outlandish as RE:CV with a guy who's falsetto voice can command morph leeches into a old man instead of crazy incestuous crossdresser.

The 'co-op' mechanic is a gimmick for the most part, with billy having more health and IIRC a slightly more powerful 9mm handgun you'll being using him for combat expect for part where you have to split up. How the partner AI fairs in combat depending on who is the partner, billy is aggressive as fuck and wont stop shooting until the fucker is dead and rebecca only shoots when you shoot like if she was a SHMUP power up. You can also choose to make them passive in the item menu to save ammo but then they're just sitting ducks then. It's just easier for you to clear the room out with billy by himself and use rebecca as a packmule. However the co-op mechanic can be used to your advantage if you know where the monster jump scare spawns are as they don't trigger until the character your controlling is in that part of the room, so you can just move the partner character past the monster by using the map and then switch to them when they're near the door.

I think most of the complaints of the backtracking for items comes from when you have to leave an area like the mansion part to the lab as you probably used the typewriter room as your 'item box'. Depending how much ammo and herbs you wasted this ranges to 'not a problem' to 3 or 4 trips and you don't have enough room in the area to leave your shit there. Oh and make sure you bring the hookshot with you when you have to move to a new area.

I personally like RE0 because I found out about the knife trick with billy and no one seems to know about it and billy's VA is spike spiegel.

Nope.

These "new" RE1 and Zero releases are as good as they are because they are just HD remasters of the early 2000s games. If Capcom starts making actual new remakes in 2016, they will most likely be over-the-shoulder shooters instead of survival horror games.

First reviews are in!

gaming journalist said:
Instead of improving upon the basic mechanics, such as the way fixed camera angles often make it impossible to see (or dodge) lumbering monsters, the remaster indulges in fan service. Players can now dress up Rebecca in a whole slew of inappropriate costumes (Nurse, Cheerleader) that serve only to reinforce the game's sexism (such as Rebecca's inability to move any heavy objects, or the fact that Billy has to keep saving her).

RE1 remake made new changes even different from the 2002 gamecube version, so you're wrong. Also, they said, that they are doing a TOTAL remake of RE2. That means, from the ground up, and just not a "remaster". So you are wrong there also.

RE1 remake made new changes even different from the 2002 gamecube version, so you're wrong.

It's stuff that's related to controls and camera. Gameplay changes, if there even are any, are so small that it doesn't matter. Aside from graphics, it's 99% the same game as the 2002 Gamecube remake.

Also, they said, that they are doing a TOTAL remake of RE2. That means, from the ground up, and just not a "remaster". So you are wrong there also.

That's exactly what I said, so I'm not wrong.

Those HD remasters are good because they are basically just graphical updates of early 2000s games, before RE4 turned the franchise into shooters. The new remakes like the upcoming RE2, which are not just graphical remasters of old games, will most likely be shooter games like other RE games since RE4.

Guess what, bitches?

OcQgyN4.jpg

:obviously:

Port is 99% identical to the RE1 HD remake. Which means:

a) Widescreen is shit (cropped image) and using 4:3 will lead to the game running in an area smaller than maximal hor available:

Y76ay7G.jpg

b) Yeah - default font is shit.

Fix is already available (by Bunny, who did the same for RE1 HD). Grab it here.
You can use it via newshit version of Fluffy Modmanager (supports Dragon Dogma and RE0 HD).
Voila:

ppG7iBb.jpg

c) Gaypad controls aren't remapabble.

H3pWxEq.jpg

But don't worry, similar to RE1 HD, the game is Xinput-only, so you can / have to use x360ce (which works fine).

d) Performance is once more dogshit:

Wh9Zfrm.jpg

Probably same problem as before (very high internal res). Wait for the fix, the RE1 HD one doesn't work (obv.).

Anyway, let's cut the bullshit and proceed to the most interesting part.

:desu:

You can change costumes on the fly:

Too bad that glorious Capcom devs forgot about clipping:

Plus Sectus already ported the new battlesuit as well:

Verdict: usual sloppy Capcom handjob...

Yes my friend spend a fortune on a rig to play games with dated graphics from over a decade ago. That's great use of your Intel™ powered gaming rig with Nvidia ™ 900 series, the ways its meant to be played™.

I'm not getting major slowdowns only when I change camera angles or open doors that the framerate seems to take a hit but only for a split second. Considering that the original versions of these ports did that as well, i'm okay with that. Keep in mind I have the game widescreen fullscreen at 1080p, cuz im using a 42 tv as my moniter, with a used R9270 amd card that I got for a $100 on ebay and a i3 processor.

Update on performance and shit.

1) Most people complaining about performance seems to be Nvidia-users (me too).

2) Some fags claim that the first version of the "RE HD lag patch" (the one which reduces number of GPU calls, but doesn't change internal res) helps with RE0 performance too.
Tried it but the changes aren't that great (2-10 FPS). Normal costume = lag patch, leather costume = no lag patch:

FPS counter doesn't change AT ALL as long as you stay in one "area" (camera zone), which leds me to belive that the main culprit of the performance is high internal res (same problem as with RE HD).

3) Game always renders in 16:9, no matter what you choose.
Too bad that my desktop's native is 16:10 (1680x1050), so I get black horizontal bars (screens above). Vertical bars are there due to me choosing the 4:3 aspect ratio (I don't want the output to be cropped).
But if you change game's res to anything lower than native, game simply makes the output window smaller, instead of scaling the output properly.

1280:720 (16:9):

BLRGKnm.jpg

1280:960 (4:3):

DH7vH9V.jpg

800:600 (4:3):

fmcq8lJ.jpg

As you can see, performance is still shit, so the game probably renders everything in 1920x1440 all the time and then simply resizes the output to smaller window.

tl;dr

Russian modders needed (they fixed RE HD).

Game running smooth for me at 1900x1200

60 FPS, 1920x1080 in 4:3 mode. The game is just as good as Resident Evil. People complaining are either lying, stupid or both.

Worst thing about the game is the door and stair sequences but someone is working on a mod to get rid of those.

Finally someone who knows what he's doing decided to take a look at RE0 performance problems. After some bitchin':

atom0s said:
I am still around but am not purchasing this game, or any other games from CAPCOM. Their lack of care for their community has shown me that there is no point in buying another title from them. All their recent releases have had the same problems over and over, plagued with lag and other bugs. And they never support any of them or fix any of the issues. I love coding things for games and modding them, fixing some things here and there, but I am not interested in spending money to just keep fixing their games for them.
atom0s said:
If someone wants to gift me the game on Steam I can take a look.

A couple hours later he was able to create first fix:
http://residentevilmodding.boards.net/post/61571/thread

Unfortunately so far it helps only a little (a couple of FPS in my case). But it's WIP (RIP?):

atom0s said:
I'm looking into some other things but it seems they have changed how they use parts of the engine in this game. Overriding their texture function does not help any and lands up breaking the game. Adjusting the background resolution just crashes the game as well.
atom0s said:
It seems like CAPCOM redid parts of the engine for this game. The texture function that used to be used in REHD is not used for nearly anything now. A different function is used instead, however hooking that one and changing resolutions just crashes the game. (Does not scale the images like it did in REHD.)
The generation of the background is also crashy if its edited so other tweaks seem a bit harder to perform on this game vs. the others.

We've been CAPCOMed again...
