The performance is great for me (C2D E6300@2.4ghz, 2 gb ram, 4870), at average I get 40 fps with everything on highest settings.

The game itself is very similar to Gothic 2 and if you played Gothic before you will feel right at home. The dialogs are not exciting and the quests are pretty standard so far.

The combat is somewhat hard at the beginning, especially before you learn to time the evade moves (double tap). After you learn the timing, you can theoretically if you don't fuck up kill enemies without getting hit once. In any case, the combat is more challenging than in recent RPG's so it's fun.

The game world is very small. The usual crap happens as a result, the monsters are 10 meters from humans and both sides make themselves not notice the other.

I'm playing the russian version and the translation is not very good, so I might be wrong about the quality of dialogs.

Dialogs are the same kind as in Gothic 1 and 2. Sometimes pretty good, sometimes pretty bad but most of the time just instantly forgettable.

How do you extract the paks from the 1st two files? Neither 7z nor Winzip are allowing me to do anything with them.

That's what I did. About 25 seconds, and you've got a Winrar file to unzip. Containing your brand new english_language.pak.

I pre-ordered on amazon for 39.99. So far it seems to be exactly how i dreamed gothic 3 should have been. =)

There isn't much to even specify about the combat. It's basically Gothic 3 with blocking/parrying reliability. No stun locking thankfully, at least so far. Enemies still do their war cry thing like previous Gothic games. It's not bad but I'd rather have an updated G2 system any day.

And multiple enemies will attack in concert. Often circling you or actively trying to flank. Different creatures also seem to have their own specific strategies and ways to attack you. It's not perfect but perfectly serviceable.

You really have to work to not find yourself conscripted by the Inquisition.

But...I decided to go with them my first playthrough, anyway. So I let myself be caught at night. Wanted to be a Mage, and they're an easy path to it.

Once I've played the game through their side, and know what's what...I'll go back to my pre-capture save and be a rebel.

I want to play this already, and no, I'm not dloading, because that would be a waste of time since I'll get it in two weeks.

No need to get captured. You can volunteer after doing a lot of work for them in the city.
There are no classes, but only those who join the Inquisition can learn magic. Only full mages can use runes. Soldiers of the order can use only crystals (3 basic attack spells, one for each damage type) and scrolls (you can scribe a scroll yourself if you have the corresponding rune, even if you don't know how to actually use the rune). No idea what (if any) unique training bandits offer. Probably 3rd level lockpicking and 2nd/3rd level pickpocketing. I'm yet to find someone who'd teach these skills.

Oh, I know. I figured that after I snarked to Pallas about 'having volunteered' (when they'd actually beaten me upside the head and dragged me there), and he took my word for it and asked for a voucher or some sort.

I noticed after playing for a while the game began to chug and stutter a ton. It seems to be a problem only people with Nvidia cards are getting but I found a fix on some forum already.

So if anyone here has an Nvidia card, you have to drop back to the 178.24 drivers and everything will be smooth then. Hopefully a driver update or game patch comes along to fix it, but as it is the older drivers work fine.

For once ATI users have less to complain about.

Yeah most games seem to hate ATI cards for some reaosn, or it's a problem with their drivers. Physx might also be a part of it, don't know for certain.
