Not a terrible list, most of the games listed are classics or potential classics, but there are definitely some omissions (GTA: SA, but not GTAV. Also, they have Planescape Torment: EE but no BG2: EE). They start in 1990 with Red Baron, but I wonder why they didn't just push the list to 100 to include some older classics that are peerless like Sid Meier's Pirates, SMAC, Jagged Alliance 2, etc...

Leave it to RPS to make a list of best PC games that has more console RPG's than PC RPG's and which consists mostly of games released in the last 10 years.

In the latter half, this list is the first time I've heard of like 30% of the "games".

Easily the worst one I've ever seen. It's a complete joke to put Skyrim and other trash on these lists, but it's 100 times worse to put "Stick Shift" on there.

Huh, I thought it was OK list until you hit around halfway point and then it starts with indie games. Not even the really good ones, but stuff like proteus 30 flights of loving. And then it crowns it all with fucking no man's sky. Great stuff. Are we sure RPS isn't meant to be a parody site?

If you read the entries, they do mention the other games. Like it doesn't have BG2:EE, Fallout and Fallout 2 because it has Torment instead. It doesn't have GTAV because it has San Andreas instead. It doesn't have Starcraft since it has Dune 2 instead.

It's really hard to make a top 75 greatest games list. Sims has to be there. WoW has to be there. Sure, this list might be a little heavy on flight simulators and FPS, but it's not popamole.

And I don't mind that it's biased towards newer games from the past 10 years. Part of these lists is to discover new games. I've never heard of Deadly Premonition but now I'm looking forward to playing it.

Deadly Premonition is an open-world RPG about a series of ritual murders, the FBI agent investigating them, and the residents of the small Pacific Northwest town the trail leads to.

How does a game like that get no mention on Codex?

1990 Red Baron
1992 Dune 2: The Battle for Arrakis
1992 Ultima VII
1993 Day of the Tentacle
1993 Doom
1994 UFO: Enemy Unknown
1996 Quake
1997 Dungeon Keeper
1997 Final Fantasy VII
1997 The Last Express
1997 Sid Meier's Gettysburg

2002 Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
2002 TES: Morrowind
2003 EVE Online
2003 KOTOR
2004 GTA San Andreas
2004 Sims 2

2016 Oxenfree
2016 Stick Shift
2017 Divinity: Original Sin 2
2017 What Remains of Edith Finch

I think if you added a couple of serious omissions (Pirates!, SC2, SMAC, HoMM 2/3, Bloodlines, Sengoku Rance) this would be a great top 100 list.

It's a helpful list for me, motivates me to try newer games like Legend of Grimrock, DA: O, NEO Scavenger, Nidhogg, FFVII and 80 Days.

I don't see Arcanum. Whoever made this list is a fucking poser.

Lel a console game is number 1. Great game too, but it shouldn't be at #1. While it has a number of elements of an RPG, it looks a little out of place among the games beneath it. DS is a gameplayfag and atmosphag game, it really doesn't go too far beyond that. A number of games beneath do that alongside storyfaggotry, simulation and immersion faggotry, and place great emphasis on actual role-playing which Dark Souls doesn't really do. I love Dark Souls and other such consoles games that are actually good as much as the next :obviously: gamer that doesn't define themselves and the games they opt to play exclusively by platform like a dumbass*, but this is a bit of a joke list really. Mainly as a result of that #1 placement, but also some other things (Skyrim GTFO).

*General rule: almost always play on PC, and always opt to play high quality games. This rule will as a result include some console game emulation, especially of old ones, or ports of games that aren't shit like Dark Souls. Hell, maybe even handheld emulation in some special cases.

Personally when I clicked the link when you first posted the thread and I saw the list was in an annoying format I thought fuck that and backed out. Deadly Premonition being in the list is 'kin retarded though. Almost as if it was a retarded inclusion with the intent to specifically generate controversy and clicks.

Also the nu list has Bioshock and not System Shock 2. That's one of the worst possible offences as far as I am concerned. But I'm not going to give RPS any more attention and bump their thread further, so git'.

Absolutely abhorrent. And clearly suggestive of the fact that nobody over the age of 25 had any input or only picked up the hobby at a later stage.
1st game is from fucking 1990? No Pirates? No Prince of Persia? Not a single Sierra adventure? No Flashback? No Stunts? No Civ 1? No Sword of the Samurai? Only 7 games from before 1996? I could go on but I don't want an aneurysm.

To be fair, the list is for "Best PC Games of all time" with the emphasis on "PC Games". The PC wasn't a primary gaming platform until 1990 and onwards, so finding noteworthy PC games released before 1990 is a challenge. This is why you won't find games like the early Ultimas, Wizardrys or most of the Sierra adventure game catalog on Top PC-anything lists... at least the ones that follow this simple rule (PC Gamer doesn't, for one).

Pirates! was originally released on the C-64, Prince of Persia on the Apple II and Flashback on the Amiga, but the other games you mentioned are original PC games. No comment on why they weren't included, because the list is, as usual, pants-on-head retarded. Only nine titles in and you get a console port, and featuring two MOBAs is a crime against common sense... and that's as far as I'm willing to go in explaining (for the nth time) why lists like these are fucking stupid.

The SIMS has to be there?

Why?

It's one of the best selling games, sure. It let EA grow to a size where they could ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL of everyone else, but it's a shit game. Banal shit boring.

If the best = the best SELLING then a Toyota Corolla is a far better car than a Pagani Zonda.

It just isn't.
