Jagged Alliance 2.5

Wanted to go with full-slav team:

But Lt. Rozanski simply didn't fit (5-fag limit).

Anyway, wanted to test scouts:

But grenades look much more effective:

Looks like someone was inspired by Flashback.. is it any good ? Looks interesting indeed.

It's only a bit similar to Flashback. It's a puzzle-platformer with the emphasis on puzzle. The character doesn't have "realistic" moves like in FB, he moves, jumps etc. more like in a "regular" platformer and there's not a lot of killing (and unfortunately it doesn't have Flashback's cool, fluid animations). It is a fun game though, some of the puzzles can be a bit dull or annoying and the final boss fight is kind of underwhelming but I think the Way is worth it's price. The game is very "atmospheric" ->in the vein of Another World (you're in an alien, mysterious place...) and gave me that nice "I wonder what's going to be next" feeling.
Gameplay isn't too influenced by FB or Another World but there are a some "references" to these games: there were 3 or 4 places where you had to deal with some large monster chasing you...you have an alien friend that helps you...there's a "flying motorcycle" kind of vechicle(a playable one though it doesn't look half as cool as the one from the Flashback intro) etc. It's kind of a nice touch.

That's all! Highly recommended for mindless slasher fun.

I was big fan of Shiny-published games like Giants: Citizen Kabuto and Sacrifice back in the day, but MDK seemed a bit too "lolrandom" for my taste. What I did regret missing was Messiah, which had a cool dystopian-cyberpunk-mixed-with-apocalyptic-religion vibe. Plus they knew exactly what they were doing when they advertised it :smug:

I grabbed the GoG version ages ago - unfortunately, like most GoG "ports" it seems as if the bare minimum has been done to make the game playable - and even then I had to go to forums to get past a consistent crash spot. It doesn't help that the game itself is pretty buggy in the first place, and uses a LoD texture scaling method that causes models to constantly bubble and distort themselves whenever you move the camera or character. Sound would also frequently cut out and require a restart or transition to new area, probably the result of master volume fading whenever the player dies or certain cutscenes occur. The game is a pretty ambitious mix of genres - social stealth mechanics, platforming, action, puzzle-solving and exploration - which sadly just ends up a big mess of half-baked ideas. The use of Fear Factory for music is pretty pointless since it's mostly relegated to nightclub ambience and the combat tracks. Jesper Kyd fills out the rest of the soundtrack with some pretty atmospheric tunes. An interesting experience and mercifully only a few hours long, but not really worth catching up with in comparison to a classic like Giants.
