In the past I've written about the problem of classifying "tactical RPGs" for newsposting purposes, and I even suggested at one point that TacticularCancer should rebrand itself as a squad-based tactics site. That suggestion was not accepted, but I still feel that this genre, which is currently booming with the help of Kickstarter, is currently being underserved by our forum.

So, setting aside the matter of the Codex and TCancer front pages and what appears on them, I propose the creation of a "Tactical Squad-Based RPG" discussion board. A home for the Banner Sagas, Jagged Alliances, Invisible Incs, Xenonautses, Telepath Tacticses, all that good stuff that the Codex loves but is currently split with little rhyme or reason between General RPG Discussion and Strategy Gaming.

(I would also consider just going ahead and putting squad tactics games that don't have any RPG elements at all there too, like Frozen Synapse etc, because fuck it)

tactical -> tacticool, and I'd be okay with this.

although one should be aware of creating too many subforums. it reduces overall readership of threads.

for instance I wouldn't actively seek out a JA thread in a Tacticool subforum, but I'd be like "I might as well read it" if it's together with regular RPG threads.

another idea would be to create a Tactical Cancer subforum for sub-subforums like RTS, TB, Tactical, whatever.

but I'd prefer as little change as possible.

Sounds like a good idea to me, JA, Silent Storm etc threads get buried in Strategy and RPG subforums pretty much constantly.

I'm not sure I like the idea of having such a niche board, or just having this many subforums. Sounds too RPGWatch-ey, that's all. Plus, there aren't that many (non-Japanese) TRPGs.

Don't care much either way though.

I think we should have a subforum for Infinitron related threads. Quantity wise they beat threads about squad-based tacticool rgps for sure.

Yeah, a squad based tactics subforum would be a great idea. It's pretty annoying looking for threads about squad tactics games in in strategy gaming forum.....

I don't think this new forum would cover all discussion on tactical RPGs... unless it was also merged with jrpg discussion. /troll

How interesting! I actually made a similar suggestion a few weeks back, if only of a slightly broader scope. One regarding (specifically and solely) the RPG forum's eventually, slowly, beginning to sub-categorise titles by some format (i proposed type of combat) rather than dumping them in an "all-in-one" thirteen years' old subforum as has been the case till now. Apart from everyone having a go at me (because it says site feedback, so everyone does their best to validate the value of feedback i suppose), i also had the extreme honour of having my OP retardoed :D

It's not just the search engine that is the matter. Although not surprisingly, that was as far as most retards replying to my thread could think. It is also a matter of there simply being way too many RPGs since the genre got started, all of which have in one way or another been discussed here. Thirteen years of discussions, within one subforum. Sans search faculties. If you had not known about it? Chances are you never will, least not by your own volition. If you did know about it? One more thread among hundreds of thousands of others, to eventually either derail off topic, get buried due to time of posting (back to square one for the next guy), or get megathreaded if more recent. Result? A fucking chaos of misorganisation.

But..if everyone finds it not only reasonable (being unable to do squat shit unless you know a priori what you're looking for) but also prestigious? Who am i to disagree!?
So to answer in kind, because here in the Codex everybody is do deep, serious and smart:

Ban the OP (just as i was answered)

Productive, innit

Remove the JRPG forum and put this in it's place. Seriously, how can we have a forum for niche JRPGs but not the types of games codexers actually enjoy playing and talking about, like X-Com, Jagged Alliance, etc.

Don't see much fans of Final Fantasy's and Star Oceans.

The most popular codex games are Hearthstone (thread in the Gazebo), DotA 2 and LoL (both in general gaming). If you want to be efficient, make a MOBA subforum. Sensuki can be the mod.
