Guild Wars found a very good and simple solution to balancing pve and pvp skills a long time ago. Most skills just have 2 versions, one for pve, other for pvp, that usually differ in numbers but have more or less similar effects. Assigning a separate small team to do something like this would effectively 'balance' dominions without 'actively hurting' summoner's drift. Unless you're now gonna jump out with some sort of 'OMG BUT THAT WOULD BE WASTING RESOURCES AND MANPOWER', but that's like people whining on forums about "OMG WHY RELEASE NEW CHAMPS INSTEAD OF FIXING OLD ONES".

First off, I've played about 30 SR matches for every 1 dominion matches. This isn't about "your dominion". It's about your inane fears of something that, realistically, doesn't affect you.

Just as an aside, Storm Shield is more like a blue/red buff. Quests are meant to help break stalemates, and they often do just that. Hell, you could argue that obtaining the first dragon and buffs requires time management on top of farming/champion killing.

Hecarim isn't any good on Dominion. He's better on SR than on dominion, lol. He's good on Twisted Treeline, which Nome said. Perhaps your were mistaken? If Phreak really did say that Hecarim was made for Dominion, then he's either bullshitting (need I point out the countless threads where he's flat out lied?) or Riot goofed, another common occurrence. Hecaderp's real problem is his numbers must remain low or his kit would be out of control on any map.

Your fears about dominion are extremely sensational. Dominion works fine as a secondary game mode. As I stated, there are 3-4 champs that are busted, easily fixed with bans. It has been, what, 9 months? since dominion launched? And aside from, allegedly, Hecarim how has it affected SR? It hasn't. If Riot was actually concerned about Dominion's balance, DARIUS, RURU, and NEW JAX wouldn't be the way they are. Those 3 champs are lightyears ahead of Hecarim could ever dream to be.

And that's ok. The mode works perfectly fine. 6 bans in draft allow for all of those champs to be banned out. Riot has THOUSANDS of employees worldwide now. It hasn't been a matter of resources for well over a year. Think about the stealth rework - what really held that up was mismanagement, as stated by Riot themselves. Nome is specifically working on these other game modes. I'm pretty sure SR will manage just fine without him since they already have an over-staffed live team.

tl;dr Grunker stop being butthurt over something that doesn't even affect you beyond, allegedly, Hecaderp.

If anything, be weary of LEAGUE OF LEGENDS SUPREMACY :smug:

No, I'm not saying they should. I'm saying at least that would make sense. Creating a parallel game that draws directly from the other one's resources is blind stupidity, for reasons I have re-stated many times.

How would the resources that went into making Dominions have been used on SR instead? You'd need map designers, mechanics designers and then balance and playtesting. The first two don't even apply to SR at all, since the map is perfect and it cannot get new mechanics. The balancing and playtesting part may have made a difference, but Riot has continued to release new champions and balance changes while Doms was being developed, so again while it may have made a difference I can't see it. Most of that development time was secret too, and I don't remember anyone going, "Hmm, lately the new batch of champs and balance changes have been really sloppy. Riot must be funnelling its resources to some secret project."

Just because they spent money on developing Dom doesn't mean that it's been diverted from somewhere else. This reminds me of that complaint that you see everywhere on the lol forums, "OMG Riot should stop releasing new champs and balance what they have already!!1", and the rebuttal to that was simply that Riot has separate design and balance teams, so releasing new champs has 0 to do with how the old ones are being balanced. No new champs would just mean layoffs for the design team, so you might as well give them and the map designers something to do.

I'd in fact argue that Riot decided to design all these new game modes because there is nothing more to develop in SR. As a F2P company, your #1 priority is growth, and SR offers only a very narrow prospect of it. If you as a company want to attract more players to your game, a capture the flag mode, or an ARAM mode will attract way more people than another champ every few weeks will.

    No need to. Already did:

It's seems you don't read my posts but rather makes quick conclusions about what you think are in them? Not to sound even more butthurt than I am, but when you (in extension of Phage who did it with the skill-thing) comment on a point I have already answered in the post just before, it's kind of hard not to get that impression.

You realliy, REALLY flat-out refuse to ackknowledge that to game-modes, both with pro levels (and the commercial stuff that comes with that) that draw from the same resource-pool would not conflict? There is zero possiblity this will happen?

After all, I'm stating something that might happen. You on the other hand are making a blanket statement that it never will.

yeah it's not like the latter is part of the same game and the former requires only map balancing because the stuff already in the game works EXACTLY the same way in capture the flag and death match

Or... am I just being trolled? :(

Uhm, you realize Magma Chamber was part of a strategy for a future possible "Starcraft-ish map strategy", right? Starcraft has different maps to play on with the same basic gameplay. This was the idea of magma chamber - same gameplay, new map.

Instead, Riot chooses different game-mode which is something else entirely. Main game and tower defense instead of more maps for the main game. Tell me how many of the resources you speak of being involved in Dominion could not be used to make something like this?

bro that was like 6 pages ago. You think my dominions-adapted action-packed attention span remembers so much?

    Also: hardly massive resources.

Well, for one thing, they already tried that with TT, namely making just a new map with the same gameplay, and it wasn't very successful. So they tried Dom and it was way more successful than TT.

??? Champions control exactly the same in dominion as they do in SR.

The objective is different. Same story with CTF and PVP in MMOs. Especially CTF in games like Tribes.

I'm saying it hasn't happened for 9 months, so yes, I feel pretty confident that it won't be a significant issue.

CTF in league of legends would be fairly lulzy btw. Master Yi first pick/first ban.

    They should add it.

TT has 3 players. How is that "just another map with the same gameplay"? the starcraft allegory man

Are you really insisting that for both to be comptetitive no amount of extra work would be added?

That's weird, I didn't know Dominion was competitive enough to have a large amount of players push for balance and reworks (like they do for, you know, Summoner's Rift). How can it be that something that is now natural to Summoner's Rift will not happen for Dominion? It baffles me how this is not just fucking common sense. You can discuss the scope of it, sure, but how can you deny that if Dominion becomes as competitive as SR, that balancing that has nothing to do with SR will need to be done?

This could be true. However, what are you basing this on?

It appears Riot themselves do not see Dominion as much of a selling point.

Looking at the recent Thai League of Legends TV commercial, as well as randomly browsing gaming sites for LoL ads, you'll find that there's almost no reference to Dominion.
If you use the drop-down menu at the official league of legends site, dominion is not even listed as a map. (although it appears if you actually bother to click the link).

In the game overview menu, also from the offiicial site, there's no mention of Dominion either. Surely, had they experienced it as a selling point, they would have updated some of this by now.

Huh? No. I'm saying that the core gameplay is the same in Dominion, as it is with CTF and PVP. And yes, I am indeed insisting that you need just as much, or more effort to make a CTF or PVP mode competitive.

Have you been in a coma for 9 months? Dominion has been out. It has a small competitive scene. They are perfectly fine with the game except for how matchmaking works (draft queues too long), and they'd like ranked mode.

What exactly is your point? Nome is going to work on the map's quirks, and Lyte is working on matchmaking for all the game modes. That's all Dominion needs, and it's not subtracting from SR (since, as stated, SR currently has an over-staffed live team)

Phagers gonna Phage. On the one hand, you claim that of course stuff is balanced differently in the different iterations, and of course a dedicated crew will have to work on Dominion balance.

On the other you claim this will have no effect on SR (different dudes, durr). As if they are not payed by the same money and as if champion balancing will not affect SR (unless they make champions work differently on the two maps, which, as I have stated before, opens up other problems).

That's not actually what I said.

I said that Dominion is fine as it is, aside from matchmaking. However, Nome is working on all of the non-SR maps, and that he is more than enough support.

And, very very heavily implied that there is no need to balance the CHAMPIONS for dominion, and there isn't, as evidenced by the last 9 months.
