Yes, the Asteroids from 1979. It's back after not even 36 years and this time around it's gonna be an MMO! Wait, what? The title is under development by all new Salty Studios, so brand new there ain't even a website about them. First screenshots let me believe this is something like Space Engineers. Players will not just have to defend themselves from each other but also the hostile environment, like rock showers from space, carriers of riches & destruction alike.

The title is planned to release on Steam for PC only.

Fred Chesnasis on the official homepage:
“Asteroids is one of the most iconic titles in Atari’s portfolio of more than 200 games and franchises, and we’re looking forward to ushering the game into today’s digital gaming era.”

Good luck with that, Fred. Stephen King was right.

Imagine if old asteroid had quest markers, romance and a progressive story...

You are John the Jetpilot, and you have orders to shoot at asteroids. What seems like a simple enough job at first slowly becomes something much more involved as you realize that these asteroids are sentient and the government has basically sent you on a genocide mission. As you become more familiar with asteroid culture, you befriend a cute female asteroid who falls in love with you. A deep romance develops and if you pick the right dialogue choices, you get to see a hot man-on-asteroid sex scene. The female asteroid even becomes pregnant with a half-asteroid child, the first human-rock hybrid in history. But then the government sends out another fighter pilot to finish the job you started, and your beloved asteroid girl gets shot to pieces. Crying as you clutch the shattered pieces of space-rock to your heart, you swear to avenge her death, stop the asteroid genocide and bring the corrupt government ministers responsible for this atrocity to justice. In an epic confrontation with Joe the Jetpilot, the fighter pilot who killed your beloved lady-asteroid, you shoot him down and find a document in the wreck of his spaceship that confirms the government knows of the asteroids' sentience. With this document, you manage to accuse the responsible government officials of planned genocide in front of an international court.
