Hmmmmm...no! I am pissed that the game is released in such a state,it is shame that such a great game will be flop because people couldn't keep working on it for one more week. Also i am pissed that i have to download it 5 times and thus effecting my beautiful rating of 3.632. Another thing that it could come to you as a surprise is that i am not shitting money and i am from the EU,which means that i am paying 60 Euro for the game. Oh and i will buy the game when i have disposable money that doesn't go for drinking. Now please kindly fuck off and go suck some corporate cock! Really hate holier than thou that pretend to be morally superior while in their ivory towers!

Here's an idea: wait until you have enough money to buy the games that you enjoy. You're part of the reason things are fucked up. It's not a holier than thou attitude, because I haven't gotten the game yet. I've been waiting to hear that they have everything sorted out before I support a game that I would like to see more of released in the future like a rational human being.

I'm 22 hours into the game and I haven't ran into any bugs at all, for what it's worth. I am running a legit copy so it's likely to be less buggy. Even an up-to-date pirate copy might have more problems than the legit equivalent.

22 hours. Does it feel like you are close to the end? Read that the main campaign last around 30... I was hoping for longer personally.

Nah the campaign is longer than 30 hours, maybe if you rush trough it. I have around 20 hours and still haven't found the first stone. Yet i do love to go around exploring and finishing all the shit and loot everything. I feel that it will end around 50-60 hours for me. Unless the story is unfinished.

Spellforce 1 takes forever, in both good and bad ways. Each map is like 2 hours long, I'm around 10-12 maps deep and it doesn't seem to be ending any time soon. And that's without the expansion campaigns. So, yeah, I hoped SF3 is like that, too. I also dread the inevitable DLC avalanche of SF3, shipping with only 3 races was a huge red flag right there.

So is the campaign you guys are talking about based around a single faction, or are there campaigns for each one?

The campaign plays out more like an RPG campaign. There aren't any campaigns for the individual races. You have your main character and you can recruit any or all races you want into your Cause. The order of which you do things and which party members you use in the main character's party does have an impact of varying magnitude within the missions so there's a level of replay value there.

Sounds great! Particularly if it's a longer campaign, which seems to be the case. Maybe they were referring to the main quest only when they said it took around 30 hours to complete?

Maybe. For the past 5 hours I've just been pooping around doing side stuff rather than advance the main campaign.

Where are you at the campaign? I am at the first stone, the one in the desert with the undead. Looking at the the world map i feel that this is the early middle or the late beginning. Hope that the story is not cut because they didn't have time. The writing is easily the best thing in the game. Also the game have good replayability value, because of the interesting companions. Do you have any favs?

Fuck. I just rage quit and I have to agree with fantadomat that the game is not finished/untested and was released too early. Got stuck in a mission because the main quest doesn't trigger. I wasted at least 2 hours on this mission (first encounter with the trolls) and another hour on redoing it.

This shit is unacceptable. Maybe they patch it some day but I will pass it for now (and I'm playing the legit version).

Anyway, the game is a weird combination between RTS and RPG. I still don't know what to feel about it except that both parts seem to be under-developed.

Has anyone beaten Spellforce 1 on hard? I'm at Greydusk Vale and it seems impossible. I can't do enough damage to the Urogs before they respawn, while a bunch of hard to kill undead are constantly attacking my base.

EDIT: Nvm, I did it. Had to restart the map for it, though.

Ehm... the mission where you have to escort the human peasants in Iskinder Wilds I think its named - how in the hell do your survive the RTS part? I'm on hard and I just refuse to lower it. I can survive for a while, beat him back and capture a couple of sectors, but then he just comes back in greater numbers and just pummels my ass into oblivion. I'm totally stumped on what to do.

If that is the one of the earliest missions with the refugees and the optional castle siege. Then i did go for a fast offence, try to take his sectors with your army at the beginning and then starve him out. You can have one hero dude running around and making outposts and the rest with the army. Also don't go crazy with the upgrades and the buildings,it takes a lot of time to deliver the resources and there is not priority building key. It always prioritises the outpots's upgrades. I would recommend going for a hero build outpost and a single building until you have a few logging cams to pump up wood. Good luck with your epic battle. Also did you beat the ork battle? For me it was a lot harder than this map. Fighting 5 ork AIs was nasty.

Refuse what? I don't understand why would you try hard. Are you sure they are not one of developers who are actually using word normal as normal? Hard is when you know the map, and know what you are doing. Even then in some games it can be grind.

(I'm starting to wait for gold versions. Considering number of patches in Dominions 5, something is in air, and it's unwise to grab games to early.)

Thanks. I will try this tactics. Actually I tried something similar, made it all the way in to the castle but got stomped there and lost my army and heroes. So it was basically game over since I had nothing to defend with. Will starve him out this time instead. But damn, the AI is fucking brutal, and the way he attacks. Think your settlement far up in the left corner is protected? Nope. All of a sudden you have an attack there while your frontline is getting destroyed at the same time.

Not done the orc thing yet. Not sure I look forward to that :)

I just find the hard setting just right, encounter wise. At least when playing as a dungeon party. Would feel like cheating lowering it just for the RTS.

Got the game. On the topic of "demoing" , for better or worst I've gotten in the habit of doing that over the past years after being burnt one time too many and seeing how guilty I feel for playing for free as a good indicator of whether or not the game is worth supporting with your jew gold.

Some examples: demoed civ 6, finished an entire game of it, realized I had no desire to ever replay it again and didn't really enjoy the game. 0 guilt and swift uninstall.
Fallout 4: So glad I didn't fall for this one, this game is all about being frontloaded to impress reviewers and buyers before the 2 hour cut off for a steam refund. This is the only way I can justify doing bs things like giving you power armor off the bat and all but guiding you to an early "epic" confrontation with a deathclaw. Also it takes a bit more then 2 hours to truly appreciate just how shallow the game is.
0 guilt and the pitiful dlc aswell as beths antics with creation club only made it easier.

But spellforce 3? Well I felt guilty in record time.
Others have praised the writing in this game and I'm gonna +1 that, I just like how natural conversations feel in this game and how a lot of the time I find myself liking character archetypes or tropes id hate by instinct.

The thing that finally pushed me was that something happened that I have NEVER experienced in all my years of consuming fictional media nor thought I would ever see in my life outside hardcore hentai doujinshi:

An elf admitting to fucking up and apologizing, saying they are sorry and were wrong for violating human turf and attacking humans.

:what:

Wait..wha? o0 You guys gotta understand, I'm the type of basement dweller who looks up elf guro for casual relaxation after a long day feigning normality, such is usually my dislike for the haughty bastards. The only good elf is an elf slave! would have been my political slogan had I decided to involve myself in fantasy politics.

So spellforce 3 challenged my xenophobia and made me like elves and non humans in general.
Wtf. Ok, yeh take my money, i'd say you guys earned it.

Otherwise, rpg and rts parts are indeed inferior to a dedicated game of that genre, but for my tastes the cocktail is tasty enough to carry on a decent sp experience.

On a final note, I pity the poor sods on steam forums wanting to turn this game into an "esports" title :hahano:

I think this is a fine approach as long as you are actually "demoing" it, i.e. playing for around 2-4 hours and buying it if you're going to go much further. Playing it for 30 hours, then maybe deciding you don't want to pay for it after some ongoing annoyances, etc. is another story.

Otherwise, rpg and rts parts are indeed inferior to a dedicated game of that genre, but for my tastes the cocktail is tasty enough to carry on a decent sp experience.

I watched a stream of it for a little while and really enjoyed how organically the game seemed to fade between the genres. This is one good example of how a successful synthesis can create a wholly new and fun experience out of the less complex aspects of the represented inspirations. I wonder how the game continues to keep it fresh throughout the campaign? The writing definitely seems to be a part of that too, which has been the biggest surprise of this release for me so far.

Maybe. For the past 5 hours I've just been pooping around doing side stuff rather than advance the main campaign.

I'm currently trying to recruit the Humans, then I'll have all 3 races and can continue the campaign. I waited to do the human stuff last but was surprised that I could've missed out on
having a run in with Sentenza and finally meeting up with Bertrand and seeing that he's alive and well
That would've been some important stuff that would've gone by me had I just rushed the campaign forward instead of taking the time to do the side content.

As for my favorite companion, it obviously has to be Gor. His skill set is very good and the Orcish Shamanism is a perfectly good complement for the Elemental skill tree as I've already mentioned. I can just pump Int on him which the Fire spells, the Fire Totem and Earthquake all scale off of so I can ignore Wisdom and not rely on a weak ice spell that scales off of Wis for AoE damage.

Apart from that, I really like his VA, and his writing is excellent. Gor, and the Orcs in general, feel really well fleshed out and realized as a race. They're still savage as orcs are but they gave them a believable reason to be this way that forms the basis of their culture, and that helps make it less durr chotic evil and puts them more in the chaotic neutral alignment. Gor also brings a nice amount of reactivity into the game.
Like slitting the throat of a dying person asking to be put out of misery, asking me to tell a father that we should lie about her daughter who got murdered and raped and instead tell him that she fell and snapped her neck so that he won't picture her last moments being in torment, supplied me with a company of orcish soldiers in a mission where the orcs would've been an otherwise hostile element had I not recruited the orcs first *before* doing this mission
Simply put, Gor is a well fleshed out character with an interesting and believable philosophy while also being a highly useful combat unit. He's easily in the top 5 of my favorite companions of all time. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a favorite of the writer since it really feels like a lot of passion was put into this character.
