Is Battlefield 3 still going? I actually had mind of trying that. Looks like a military version of Unreal Tournament 2004, which i wouldn't mind. Saw the premium edition going as low as 9 bucks. If it goes on sale again i might give the game a whirl. Last decent DICE game from the looks of it.

From what I've heard the multiplayer-loving Battlefield fans greatly prefer it over Battlefield 4.

BF3 has 10,000+ PC users on right now, Hardline has around 2k. And if you add all the platforms together 3 is just something around 2,000 players under.

BF4 has been and still is constantly updated with free content (maps that play well, new unique weapons) and lots of the old bugs fixed that never got fixed in BF3. It also now has a much better netcode, unlike BF3 where you still die bullshit deaths behind corners and such.

BF3 is still fun, but I vastly prefer 4 over it. There is even a demo that you can play I believe 96 hours to try the game out LS.

It is a full week. Game is still too expensive to be worth it, especially if they are going to reboot the damn thing every other year. Not going to get sucked into that shit, not for an arcade military FPS.

Battlefied 4 was released two years after Battlefield 3, which was a huge WTF moment considering 5 years went by between Battlefield 2 and 3, and then one year later they come up with Hardline and Battlefront. Really? And i guess next year they are going to release Battlefront 2 cause why the fuck not.

Battlefield 5 is coming out next year, so I guess the Battlefronts will get each two years development time and release with the mainline SW movies. Huge improvement, I know.

Regarding the time between BF2 and 3, don't forget that Battlefield 2142 and Bad Company 1 & 2 were released in that time.

Thanks! But note that doesn't say "Battlefield 5", it could be Bad Company 3, 2143, or even back to the roots with another WWII game. BF5 is probably the most likely, after Hardline EA isn't likely to go for another game that could be percieved as a spinoff.

EA is still releasing updates and even some free maps for BF4. It seems they are keen to keep players from forgetting the series until the next Battlefield comes out, since Hardline didn't make much of an impact.

It's going full-circle. Eight years ago World War 2 had been done to death and modern shooters became popular, then two years ago modern shooters had been done to death and now 'near-future' psqeudo sci-fi shooters became popular, now people are sick of those and want World War 2 shooters back. I'm guessing a few years from now people will get bored of that and want modern shooters back again.

I think he's talking about the litter of CoD, MoH, BF1942 and every other clone that spawned during the Band of Brothers buff (and until Crysis came out, which is when "modern" shooters went all apeshit).

Shooters will probably stay in the modern era because there's no tacticool gun porn in WW2. Kids won't enjoy a shooter that doesn't have 5 different slots for gun attachments.

Crysis wasn't responsible for the glut of modern warfare shooters, that would be Call of Duty 4's doing. It only seems that way because Crysis was released only a week or so after it.

Up until Bad Company, DICE clearly wanted each BF game to be distinct, as none of the four games released up to that point shared a setting. 1942 was of course WW2, Vietnam was set in the eponymous war, BF2 was modern, and 2142 was futuristic. All of those games were released before Call of Duty 4 started the trend of modern warfare settings, and then BF, MoH, and other shooter franchises tried to move and stay within that timeframe. Now that Call of Duty has moved into future settings, I wouldn't be too surprised if the next BF returned to 2142's setting especially considering that (as others stated above) the Final Stand DLC was blatantly leading up to 2142's story with the formation of PAC and the development of hover tanks and so forth.
