Well who's that dude who said he made six figures in a month? WTF? And judging by his statement of his mother being in college in the 90's he's probably not that much older than 22ish. So there's clearly some form of fraudulent behavior going on.

We won't be seeing that Codex mask. Next time you want to throw away $500, just buy me a bunch of Steam games.

Lol, how you spend the money of people who you haven't delivered a product to you is their PRIMARY concern. What a fag.

Well it has been weeks. Many weeks. The devs are probably on a beach in the Bahamas snorting coke bought with all our money by now.

No way, man. They're working on an update for Starbound now: It's a futuristic device that siphons up liquids from one location and then dispenses them in another.

In other words, it's a bucket! How cool is that?! Modders already implemented bucket-like devices with all kinds of features months ago, but now it's official!

Eh, the guy's a young hipster who probably pocketed a couple of hundreds of thousands for his own personal wealth. I hope he's good at managing it, though, because odds are no one is going to give him that again and finding work with this shit on your resume won't be easy.

In their defense, they are posting stuff almost everyday on their blog with new updates etc. on the experimental branch if you choose to download so on the steam client..

It'll never be 'finished.' That's fine as I have no plans to buy anymore Chucklefish games. I'll support Terraria 2 when it's up for funding providing I still have an itch for these type of games.

I don't care about the stupid, fluffy, whimsical blog posts and work in progress content they come up with: GIVE ME THE STUPID GAME

:hmmm:

While I too want the updating process to be faster, there is a constant update with this.

Just change it in your steam configuration if you are not a pirate fag and you see daily development.

While I not agree with this choice since I live in a first world country with normal internet, many people complained about their policy to upload patches 3-4 days inbetween with always some couple of gb to download. So they did this as an optional device for people who want to stay in touch. The same is going on with DayZ and thanks to these optional pre-pre alpha ( ) builds, bugs get found out much faster.

This just exemplifies one of the major problems with early access/kickstarter when the developers involved are young and have no perspective. Someone like Fargo is old enough to understand that just because you've been handed a few million dollars doesn't mean you're SET FOR LIFE. You give a 22 year old that kind of cash and they're off on a spending spree and/or not even considering how to budget shit. Dude will probably be penniless at thirty.

This thread is now about an autism therapy program that's actually feature-complete, much more than feature-complete really.

This is the fully-automated, and functional when completely AFK, antlion farm I built in Terraria.

Super dart traps and permanently de-actuated spiky ball traps do the killing. They're all wired to timers used by the other mechanisms that run this farm.

The chain of timer-regulated teleporters are collectively activated (or deactivated, if desired) by pulling a lever, which spawns a bird, which then flies over a series of pressure plates, each of which activates all the timers controlling the teleporter chain. The teleporter chain then carries the character from one end of the farm to the other repeatedly, allowing the character to collect loot, and ensuring vultures and antlions (which are immobile by default) spawn consistently and evenly.

I devised a 10-second timer combo which works by wiring two 3-second timers to one 5-second timer with different colors of wire; I use two of these 10-second timers to pulse the actuators on the two sand tiers off and then back on again for half a second every ten seconds. This makes the sand briefly unsolid, and allows loot to drop down into the collection chamber, which is lined with a very thin layer of lava in case any enemies happen to live through the traps and be dropped down also.

Lihzahrd Bricks are used to create a jungle biome in concert with the existing desert biome, increasing spawn rate (in theory anyway), and the whole works is lined with Water Candles, which definitely do increase spawn rate.

Produces ~30 Antlion Mandibles per hour completely AFK.

Left side (the in-between is just a long stretch of same) with wiring:

I buy the style thing but you can't tell me someone capable of the first can't dumb it down to make something like the second.

I love to be contrarian, but in this case, I think the developer's response is probably right. The design on the creature is pretty neat (though the mouth is a little cliche), and the animation at first blush looks reasonable enough, but there are considerable problems with it that convince me that they're right that the artist would benefit from art/animation classes.

There's an interview with Hayao Miyazaki where he talks about telling his animators to animate something like a snake falling out of a tree; none of them had ever seen that. Then he talks about animating something else like how a dog responds to be being fed a pill; they've never seen that either. This animation looks to me like someone who has never closely looked at how a lizard* moves. I mean, I'm no artist or expert on anatomy/animation, but: (1) the head only turns left, never right; (2) I've never seen any land creature that brings one leg back while moving the other forward in order to advance. This video, for example, shows a komodo dragon walking around, and you can see that it steps forward with the front leg, then steps forward with the back leg, etc.

(* The legs appear to splay outward, like a lizard's, rather than being underneath the creature, like a dinosaur's, but it's not totally clear.)

There are also maybe some light source issues, and it's not really clear what's going on the with the spines.

To be clear, I would love myself forever (or at least for a few minutes) if I could ever produce artwork like this. But I don't think it's some super-awesome thing that a developer would be crazy to turn down. The example of in-game art is totally ridiculous and looks like a lovechild of a My Little Pony and Gumby, but within those parameters I think it's pretty well executed. If what the developer wants is more of that stuff, I'm not sure I'd be convinced that the artist who did the Gieger-lizard could pull it off.

I won't argue any of that with you, it's just that the Starbound guy's response sounded more like butthurt over the reddit post than genuine advice.

applying for a job with a vagina dentata lizard.... mkay.

Got a problem with that, shitlord?

by the way, it looks like she learned her lesson:

I'm a freelance Pixel /2D /3D video game artist located in Austin, TX. I am currently available for work, Hourly is preferred but we can also talk per asset/sprite sheet/tileset/etc. At this time I cannot accept any profit share/"pay you later" jobs. if you need artwork done for your video game project don't hesitate to shoot me a message!

Yes, I think there are issues with that lizard creature, both in design and animation. The Starbound creature may look stupid (they're randomly generated from pieces, though, so bear that in mind), but given what it is, it's more... elegantly and professionally designed. The artist is clearly skilled. The quality of the animation is also superior.

That being said, I don't think Tiyuri would have hired that artist after she publicly outed him for not wanting to pay his employees, even if she'd produced a Rembrandt for her application.

He is clearly butthurt. They (Chucklefish) have gotten butthurt many times before, especially when people ask them if they plan on completing the game before the turn of the century. I believe I mentioned that earlier in this thread/in the Shoutbox/etc.

Eh, the guy's a young hipster who probably pocketed a couple of hundreds of thousands for his own personal wealth. I hope he's good at managing it, though, because odds are no one is going to give him that again and finding work with this shit on your resume won't be easy.

*edit: be a bit more clear, more like start another studio and have someone else be the public face and collect up cash again. Game industry doesn't give shit about reputation management something that is a 21st century focus for most companies and yet VG is still in the 20th.

This is exactly why I hate EA type games with a passion as I see it as a cancer in the industry and it is sad as there are some that actually use it for their intended purpose. The thing that amazes me the most about the games industry is reputation management that every industry outside of games now realizes is an important asset that you don't want to destroy.
It'll never be 'finished.' That's fine as I have no plans to buy anymore Chucklefish games. I'll support Terraria 2 when it's up for funding providing I still have an itch for these type of games.
I heard Pixel Piracy is made by someone from Terraria, not sure if that is true, but you might want to check it out.

Well it does seem like the Chucklefish dev has an ego, but then again his game did sell millions of copies and the game will probably continue to sell during Steam sales. I still prefer the lizard as it does look clean and crisp over the other pixel.

So in summary after reading all 14 pages the studio basically ran with the money or are they doing the perpetual alpha like Rust/Day Z? Reading the posts it started with a lot of hope and potential + fun and then ended up being a burn just like most EA & some KS games.
