Eh? Not on my planet, there isn't; not unless it's miles underground. I've been around the entire surface of the world.
As soon as you beam down to the seekrit base through the first gate, it's there. Technically I suppose it's on one of the moons not the planet itself. But since you can access it without moving the ship it's as good as being on the planet. Easier to reach too because you can beam directly there.
You're talking about somewhere I am not. I'm talking about the #1 first beginning starter planet. Ship damaged, you need power cores to get through the gate at all. No moons, no secret base, no store. I've tried flapping my arms but there is no way to get to the moon.

The base is through the portal on the first planet. Yeah you need the power cores to activate it, but the store is there. The portal takes you to a moon of the first planet. You can then beam between your ship, planet surface or the base with the store. This is before repairing the ship or traveling or anything.

Protip: there are loads of core fragments in the mine where you kill the big gorilla thing. There's a warning saying that you need to be well armed blah blah blah but the good old starting broadsword is more than enough. Only time I even needed to heal was with the gorilla mother but I think you can skip that part.

Yeah. Like I said, found 19 fragments, mostly in the mine, and then jack shit for the next 3 hours.

I also find it annoying how the game tutorials you to do stuff like plant crops before it is even possible for you to follow those instructions. "You know, you should really build some tools at a crafting table!" Yeah thanks, there's no such thing as a crafting table on this planet.

That's actually p. strange. The Beta versions told you exactly step by step what to do including how to make a crafting table. A Bethestard couldn't get stuck. I guess they didn't plan on anyone new actually buying the game that didn't already play it during the beta years.

But also there are big changes to the crafting chain now. There are a million different crafting stations where before there was like 1 or 2. And the whole watering can thing is new. Previously you just planted the seeds and fogot about them. Now you have to water that shit too.

not really, the game is very straightforward. too linear even, because every planet of the same kind has always the same materials and you're going to need them step by step.
a little variation in planet resources wouldn't have hurt, it'd have even improved the value of exploration. right now, every planet is exactly the same as the others in its own category.

As for Terraria - it's biggest flaw is that you need the massive online wiki in order to get anywhere in the game, as in-game guidance, while available, is terse and often missing a few vital steps.
Not at all. If anything, Starbound is the game with features you wouldn't have any idea existed unless you Google them. Terraria has the guide npc standing right there and it's pretty self-evident how to progress. Zombra is clearly one of these people who needs a pamphlet with pictures for complex tasks like brushing his teeth and tying his shoes. I don't know how you're unable to stumble upon the gateway on the first planet after an hour of play. Just walking around you'll see this massive thing and the AI guide will tell you that you need 20 core fragments. The quest text tells you they're near the center of the planet. Derka derka derr?? HOW U MINE FOR FISH!?!??!! I guess some people would have trouble figuring out what to do in Pac-Man.

Re: Food/survival mode. Don't bother. Yeah you can grow food and store it in a fridge but it only serves to adds a tedious, boring, and unfunny facet to the game.

There are more than 20 in mine. You simply missed some containers

Think I'm pretty much done with the game after ~20 hours. Have the top tier armor and just two more of the 'find t3h gem' quests to go which shouldn't take long since I don't really need to mine or gather any more materials. The 'bosses' continue to be laughably easy. Don't buy this expecting Terraria. But if for whatever reason you like building little communities of e-people and watching them derp around then knock yourself out. The content in this game for people who want to fight/progress is extremely limited. The content for people who want to build multiple colonies complete with trams, zoos, fossil displays, and elaborate buildings is potentially limitless. But none of that is even remotely required or tied to the gameplay at all.

There's no way this should have taken four to five years to develop.

That's pretty much true of every single Kickstarter/other crowdfunded game to date.

It used to be like that in the beta. But again, babbies. Now you find everything on the first planet. Accessible! Easy to play! :incloosive:!

The design decision to have multiple planets is one of the reasons I would recommend Terraria over Starbound.

It might add to variety of the game but it made modifying the terrain of the planet to make certain activities easier completely pointless. There's very little reason to spend much time on one planet. You just grab some ore, maybe some weapons and whatever M.M. modules/upgrade modules/tech chips you can find and move to the next one (usually higher tier one).

And even the planet/biome variety is mostly cosmetic.

Finished it and the ending is even worse than I thought. Last two bosses are arguably easier than some of the early ones. And all you get for beating the game is 25,000 pixels, some random trash weapon worse than what I had, and a THANK YOU CARD! Unless you're a builder-fag avoid this like the plague. It's not Terraria. Not even close. It's a 15-20 hour shitty 1980's Capcom platformer. I did not die a single time on any boss fight and think I died maybe twice during my entire playthrough.

Yeah, it's not Terraria because it actually has a point and you don't want to kill yourself from boredom after 5 minutes.

Not that this is so great it's just Terraria sucks donkey dick and almost anything is better than it.

You are actually and literally retarded. To say Terraria has no point is to say a game like Metroid has no point.

Hurr durr Tomb Raider has no point derp.

Metroid is a side scrolling shooter/platformer/action game. The only one stupid enough to try and compare it with Terraria or Starbound is you. Non-retards don't consider them in even remotely the same category.

If Terraria is better because in your delusional mind it's more like Metroid, then Starbound is better because it's more like Starcraft :retarded:
