Started Painkiller, not impressed so far.

So, only finished one level and played part of the second, but I'm already noticing distinct pattern to level design. And the pattern is simple: enter room, lock the doors, send out waves of enemies, kill the enemies, proceed to the next room. Rinse and repeat. "Secrets" appear to be achieved by taking other paths not marked by the red save symbol into the next area.

Is the whole game like this? And the sequels? Because if so I don't see a real reason to continue playing it. There's lot of other better fps's I still haven't played.

I preferred the setting and aesthetic of PK to Serious Croat, but dodging lasers/bulls/kleer is a lot more fun.

I played mostly for bunny hopping and impaling (+harvesting with basic weapon) enemies.

Painkiller is quite bland - the beginning is the best, later it's just stupid.

It's like it was purposely designed to be a disappointment for Blood fans.

Nomen est Omen. It's the contrary.

The beginning is the worst part of Painkiller, as you have limited selection of guns, weapons and effects. But yeah, it gets a lil' more varied as you soldier on, but the structure is "corridor-arena-corridor-arena" with the occasional midboss or boss fight. To my memory, there are two-three levels not following that pattern (the Plague City and the Sanitarium).

It was a good shooter for the second generation in which it was thrown out (where Half-Life style games still somewhat ruled in the PC market before the Halo/CoD/Console Apocalypse).

The expansions are mostly shit, though. Nice ideas sometime, but they're literally fan levels (and not that good) sold as a product.

Yeah, the latest games are p.garbage.
You can try and play Painkiller Supernatural 2.0, which somewhat improve them. If you dare.
