I thought this game was pretty bad. How is the DLC?

No, it's very good. At first it was like playing Jagged Alliance 2 for the first time, it is that good.
The problem is, once you figure out how everything works, there is not much left to do. After you have explored the map for the first time, interest will suddenly and dramatically drop.
The reason: while this is definitely not popamole, and the makers deserve applause for making believable non shitty characters and environments, they had to squeeze everything into the memory of the shitbox. So everything is rather limited, there are only a few car models and unique loot containers, and the map looks much larger than it actually is. After a few days you will run out of places you can visit.

The Lifeline DLC as much as I can say from videos, is shit. I would begin with the story mode and then the Breakdown DLC, you can get a lot of fun and playtime out of them.

Are you really dense or something? Clearly I'm not talking about myself.

Then you must suffer from some sort of autistic disability. To talk about your opinions and then complain that other have their opinions too.

:butthurt:

I say I don't like the game. You say I'm wrong and that it's in actuality a good game, implying that what you think is somehow an objective fact while I'm just deluded. I call you out for posting nonsense, you backpedal into more nonsense. Either you're trolling (and doing a good job at it), or you really are that dense.

I'm all for a dialogue about what makes a game good or not, but talking past one another -- what you did when responding to my post about the DLC -- gets us nowhere.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Enjoyed this game and the DLCs (yes even Lifeline) but it has problems.
Know of any mods to fix these problems?

Stash limit.
Work around: Sell to enclaves, their inventory resets every day.

Too easy to defend home.
Work around: Mods. One mod that interest me is one that extends the outpost trap reset time, currently my base is untouchable from hordes as 1 or 2 outposts can destroy every horde that attacks home.

Wish there is more to do in the sandbox mode, repairing the RV is too simple and boring.
Exploring some of the mods in Lifeline, they have some made for improving sieges which I like. I would prefer the DLC to earn influence from completing missions instead of selling weapons which the military has too much of anyway.

George Romero Mod T17

Trying this mod on Breakdown, even with fatal attacks slow zombies are too easy.
So I'm playing Fatal Attacks Extreme, one hit and you are down, the next hit you are dead. You won't have time to spacebar to save yourself.
This makes looting buildings risky and scary. Remember those zombies that sit around the corner and leap at you?
I now look through all the windows, yell then roll through doorways to clear a building.

This mod changes the pace of the game, favoring slow careful clearing of areas, one slip-up and you are dead.
Its like Super Mario, more survivors means extra lives.
On the bright side, health and painkillers are almost useless now.

Fatal Attacks Extreme only affect the current character so followers are safe.

They need to mod a major mission on Breakdown or something, so we can actually put those machineguns and .50 AMRs to use.

I just purchased this console trash for €5. It lacks a proper options menu so it's impossible to turn off the obnoxious bloom, HDR and blur effects.

I thought CryEngine games were used as benchmark tools, yet this game manages to look shockingly poor.

How did you guys tweak the game's visuals?

Jokes on all of us, they're making a super GOTY edition with polished graphics and visuals and releasing it sometime this upcoming Spring. Anyway, for the existing game there was some visual tweak config I downloaded, just google it and you'll probably find it.

Anyone playing YOSE edition ? The release of this 28$ patch was awful as expected by company that is now owned by microsoft but , the modding scene is alive and kicking , most of the mods got updated for new version very fast , and Dev's are talking about releasing new build for YOSE probably in the autumn that will fix some stuff they broke in the YOSE ...Meanwhile devs are being bastards the game is probably the only worthwhile zombie survival game out there , and i mean SoD is a survival game unlike all the other games where survival means you gotta shoot things.
I spent like 300 hours on original SoD Breakdown , until i got bored with the game and now year later i remembered this and planing to get me YOSE and heavily mod it . Anyone else having fun with this ?

William Faulkner lives. Anyway, not buying the HD version unless it comes in some indie bundle. I doubt the mods for it do much about the overall strategy which is still very shallow. It's a fun game but it's unfortunate how little they put into base management and surviving. I got to level... I have no idea, you can surf this thread... I think 50+ or higher on Breakdown? There's simply no challenge once you know the basics. And the vast majority of things aren't worth building.

Devs are now working on some shit mobile game and the future of SOD will probably be some shit F2P MMO with microtransactions up the wazoo.

Well, I'm not too hot to fork out money for a glorified patch. I feel bad already that I gave shekels for the dlcs.

Care to share some good mods? I can't be arsed to do much exploring now that I played my share. Anything big, or is it just all cosmetics and texture swaps?

The only reason i am considering to get YOSE is because of mods, i liked playing modded original SoD but there seems to be more action from moders in YOSE and there are quite a few interesting mods :

To begin with there is this dude's Mod Collection https://forums.undeadlabs.com/threads/swissarmyknifes-yose-mods-collection.48433/ , he has a lot of interesting mods .
Then there are quite a few Mods from other authors on the Undead Labs forums , some of them is added to Nexus but not all of them so its good to check out the forums if you are looking for something specific .
and finally some of my picks from Nexus (there are way more various mods on games forums than in nexus) :

Shooting Allies YOSE http://www.nexusmods.com/stateofdecay/mods/212/? - Makes allies more than pack mules
Allow Followers YOSE http://www.nexusmods.com/stateofdecay/mods/214/? - Allows followers during missions
SUL VEHICLE PACK 2015 http://www.nexusmods.com/stateofdecay/mods/265/? - Vehicles overhaul
More Specializations http://www.nexusmods.com/stateofdecay/mods/307/? - Allows you to get Both Melee and Weapons Specialization on one Character
Gloom Mod - Filfth http://www.nexusmods.com/stateofdecay/mods/313/? - check this one out for atmosphere
There are quite a few different QoL changing mods there too so you can customize the game at least a bit
Also for Performance this YOSE Shadow Removal / SSAO Removal Mod http://www.nexusmods.com/stateofdecay/mods/312/?

I am only looking to mod for Breakdown with one of the SwissArmyKnife's Difficulty mods that makes game harder .

Edit : Also this one for all Requiem lovers from skyrim mod thread https://forums.undeadlabs.com/threads/mod-qmjss-extended-functions-1-73-yose-current-release.42464/ Huge overhaul

There are plenty of mods so to say , Also the game was sold cheaper on summer sale i think so there should be some steam keys around the web that are cheaper than 28 Euro

None of those mods make the game worth it. The fundamental flaw is the shallow nature of what you're actually doing. Overhauling vehicles or allowing people to carry more stuff doesn't fix that.

Well that depends really on what you expect , when i modded for more enemies to spawn and that stupid missions appear only once a hour , all i do is scavenge for guns and CLEO drops and kill hordes of zombies good to relax , its important to increase the spawn at least 4x imo so there is use for those followers and better vehicles , Vanilla breakdown is to easy esp for first 7 levels to feel anything if you know what you are doing , also if you want mods that changes game from the ground you should check SwissArmyKnfies collection there are mods that changes this game very much but i personally dont like big overhauls or mods that changes the gameplay drastically i prefer ones enhancing it . If you want to make big changes to the game then look at this overhaul by SwissArmyKnife ( or any other huge Overhaul there are atleast 10 of them on State of Decay forums) :

Misc. Other Changes

  • Added customized notes from Ninja2Dan
  • Created 30 levels of varying difficulty

In the end id rather spend my time playing SOD than for example Dead State lol actually only reason i got back to SoD was trying Dead State and puking over keyboard lol , i really like the freedom SoD gives you to do w/e you want in the manner you want , and the fact that zombies can actually kill you and are real threat . Ofc if you expect some story or "missions" with a meaning or anything like that SoD is not that kind of the game , Story Mode is not that good , and only reason for the game are either Breakdown open world Sandbox or Lifeline Racoon City like sandbox to see how long you can last (Vanilla stops increasing difficulty very soon tho so mods are a must)

Ultimately all SoD is, is a third person zombie hack-n-slash. You can list a hundred 'balance/difficulty' changes but that still doesn't add any strategic depth or make objectives more interesting. You just dodder around killing zombies. It's not about 'story' it's about making base/team management challenging. Making resources actually matter, etc. etc. They don't. It's easy to compile a team of half a dozen people, put your base at that Mexican restaurant, infirmary, bedroom, and workshop is all you need. It's boring. It's the same shit x100 or however many levels you go through in Breakdown.

You need a lot more than is capable with modding like:

- randomized maps (including buildings and base locations)
- more randomized events/missions
- more personality conflicts amongst your survivors
- making facilities other than a bedroom, infirmary, and workshop essential/worthwhile
- making food/medicine management more difficult/strategic
- etc. etc.

It's addicting but it does get boring. As I mentioned a year ago they need to add deeper survival/base building mechanics to keep things interesting. Whether they do that with the sequel is yet to be seen.

Playing YOSE with QJMS Extended Functions mod , meanwhile most of gameplay remains the same QMJS managed to fix almost all the anoyances game had , and most of the shit that happens now makes sense , it feels much more complete experience , nice game to pass time and relax . The modder even reworked story mode to make it better for those who are interested in that part of the game , been slashing zombies on Breakdown for 30 hours last week , no regrets so far and i haven't even moved to lvl 2 .
Everyone who has YOSE should try the mod , it is really worth it , changelog is huge and it touches most of gameplay aspects ( better more capable survivors , all home bases are reworked and all of them can be good now there are plenty of new facility actions , missions are not as repetitive and not as common , AI improved , looting rebalanced and makes more sense now , enemy spawns readjusted etc etc )
