Finished the second part of Banner Saga, still liked it overall and most of the positives e.g. music and art (which is even better this time, some of the painted battlefields are masterpieces of drawn detail) remain, but it was imo a bit worse than the first part although somewhat longer with more to do.

They made it even more “eventful” than the more "down to earth" "leading refugees away during massive invasion" of part 1, but exaggerated it to "world is ending and giant beasts are tearing the entire world apart" level, at this rate you'll be fighting deities in part 3. They even added some patented BioWaru romancu writing near the end of the game potentially foreshadowing said for the next part. The bit with the Ravens group was a nice diversion from the main plot and a more fun / better part of the game.

They didn't change that much about the combat from the first part other than cover exists now in a few cases and there’s some really annoying maps that are sizeist and discriminate against Varl, there’s also more enemy types and they introduced some imba abilities like “Cull the Weak” with which you can decimate the enemies in one turn or “Overwatch”, which with Strength Knockback or +3 talent items can keep the entire enemy half of the board in check. They also got rid of the “WARS!” that were popping up constantly in the first part in favor of single battles, although one of the hardest parts of the game combat-wise was still a two-staged boss event.

Oh yeah, and the "Horseborn" after being foreshadowed as this interesting mysterious species in the first part turned out to be kind of a lame unimpressive fan-fiction/furry-tier race a lot less likeable than the Varl/Giants.

Still overall solid enough and looking forward to the third part and conclusion of the story, since they still left a lot of questions/mysteries about the World/Dredge/Darkness/Serpent/Menders/What-Juno-Did unanswered and story strands open. If people considered the ending of the first part open-ended, they likely didn't like the ending for the second too much.

Cradle The Banner Saga in your hands with the physical collector's edition

The Banner Saga will soon be available in a tangible form for the first time. Stoic and their publishers Versus Evil are collaborating with IndieBox, the monthly subscription box service, to launch a physical collector’s edition that will bundle the first two Banner Saga games with a number of other goodies.

The Banner Saga IndieBox will be available from June 20 (today) to July 18 only, so if you fancy holding the Saga in your hands, be sure to subscribe during that period. IndieBox offer four pricing plans:
  • One-month subscription plan: $24.99 per month + S&H
  • Three-month subscription plan: $24.25 per month + S&H
  • Six-month subscription plan: $21.99 per month + S&H
  • Twelve-month subscription plan: $19.99 per month + S&H
The collector’s edition includes disc copies of both Banner Saga games, plus an instruction manual, soundtrack, and a 6.5” bust of Ubin, the Saga’s narrator.

The Banner Saga is the epic story of refugee caravans fleeing an army of stone golems, who may themselves be being driven out of their homeland by something even darker. Set in an original fantasy universe inspired by Viking mythology, it’s a moving, narrative-driven game of hard choices, beautifully illustrated by a former Marvel and DC comics artist, and enlivened by a deep, turn-based tactical combat system.

Sound good? Head over to IndieBox to subscribe. If you can't wait for the third and final chapter in The Banner Saga, here's what we know about Saga III so far.

Invisible Inc. and Hollow Knight are to follow:

Bought in the Summer Sale, just beat it.

I enjoyed it a lot. There are a lot of general improvements to about every aspect of the game that make it feel like the series is reaching its full potential.

Looking forward to Pt. 3.
