    E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy

Buggy and unfinished, but it's Deus Ex-ish, doesn't feature any hand holding (many reviewers whined about that) and the combat feels great. Also, you can deflect bullets with your sword.
It's not popamole and it even has lean keys, something I haven't seen in ages.

You could add Path of Exile, Starfarer and Valley Without Wind to the 'upcoming' list. I'm also waiting on Megaman X Corrupted, from what I've seen it'll be the best megaman game released in over a decade.

As for already released stuff, I'd throw in:

    Iji http://www.remar.se/daniel/iji.php
    Transcendence http://neurohack.com/transcendence/
    Battle for Wesnoth http://www.wesnoth.org/

Thanks everyone for all the tips so far. I'll update the list as soon as I had the chance to check them out.

    Eversion

    http://zarat.us/tra/offline-games/eversion.html

It's a cutesy Super Mario Bros-clone with a quote from H.P. Lovecraft on the title screen. Should tip off people that this is NOT your average platformer.

It's short, but it will leave a lasting (if not scarring) impression.

    Delve Deeper

    http://www.lunargiantstudios.com/games/ ... lve-deeper

Command a squad of 5 Dwarfs as they seek gold and fortune in dark and deep mines. You're competing against time, the monstrous inhabitants of the mines, and other teams of dwarfs whose lust for gold may even rival your own.

(WTF is Eversion not on this list yet?)

"La-Mulana" is an obvious addition to this list. It's one of the best games of the last decade, in my opinion. And it's free. The linked page provides a download link and the English translation patch.

Also, is the list PC only? Otherwise, there's a hidden gem I enjoyed the hell out of a while ago called "Aban Hawkins & The 1000 Spikes", for Xbox Live Indie Games. My favorite game out of that channel. It shares some superficial similarities with La-Mulana, actually, but they end at "platformer with Indy-like protagonist".

And for a bunch more: Warning Forever (PC), and upcoming Fez (XBLA) and Owlboy (XBLA).

Unepic is highly underrated game, yes the humor is often way over the top, but you can press esc to cancel dialogue, and play the game without reading it at all. It is a fun crpg/platform hybrid with some fun spells.

Starfarer, think Mount and Blade, IN SPACE! Uses and EVN alike's combat, and has some decent ship customization that will likely get better as time goes on. They are planning on adding in player character skills in the coming few releases, and the kids crying again I'll post a bit more after I settle it.

Trash you should add Tribes Ascend. F2P Tribes game that's pretty good. I've sunk 30 bucks and probably a couple dozen hours into it over the last couple weeks.

    Ummm...

Fate from WildTangent. Seriously. I love those games.
Torchlight. Made by the same dude that did Fate.
Stellar Impact. Think WW2 Naval Combat in Space. Don't expect quick games unless the teams are totally unbalanced.
MAGICKA. This is the most fun you'll ever have playing co-op and dying repeatedly.
Dungeons of Dredmor. It's a rogue-like. With humor. And the only chance you'll get to say the one thing you've always wanted to say. "OH SHI- MONSTER ZOO?!"

I'd also like to agree with Eye: Divine Cybermancy. Very cool first person shooter/RPG hybrid.
