Metro, thank you for telling me about it! I will definitely check it out. Their developers choice for Q&A is not that surprising and those guys are really well known, but one more avenye to explore is always fun :)

I'd like to see a 'magic' healing system akin to Arcanum's, but with more of a real world flavour - and without your NPCs randomly picking up useful items regardless of whether they can use them and then blowing all their tech-based healing on magic characters and vice versa. I'm thinking along the lines of all the pre-20th century medical knowledge - actually, more the idea of roman medical knowledge, where they had anaethesia (basic and you had a strong enough chance of not waking up that for a lot of field surgery you'd choose to just bare the pain, but their records of surgery and their surgical tools also indicate sophisticated internal surgery of a kind that simply isn't possible without true anaethesia (though again - probably without our advancements in the specialty of anaethestic that allow you to reliably come back to consciousnSess - harder than one might think, which is why the anaethesia specialist has primary authority over any surgery).

But soften things a bit for gameplay purposes - I'm more concerned about having the 'feel' of classical civilisation medicine, more than the precise science. Nonetheless:
- use the Roman knowledge of hygiene. Party members have a slowly increasing chance of disease (not always major, but disease in general) that gets reset whenever they bathe. Once they have the money and have visited the local baths in a region, a menu item allows quick access to the baths, and encourages the party (once wealthy) to bathe daily wherever baths are available (less effective field baths are available if you have slaves to carry them, or inventory space though that isn't overly practical, and rivers can be used with sufficient outdoorsman skill - if you have an ultra-low skill then you could make a retarded mistake like bathing in still (hence contaminated) water.
- In major Roman cities, universities, military establishments and occasional homes of famous private surgeons (the latter spread out more outside the main cities, but charge extortionately) major surgery is possible - can both cure crippling injuries and serve the purpose of curing 'disabled' (for all intents and purposes, temporarily 'dead') companions. Works as both a remover of permanent ultra-powerful debuffs and a sort of resurrection (with a time limit for getting your disabled character to a suitable surgeon).
- the full range of herbal medical knowledge is available. Poppies provide massive pain relief, and if crafted into laudenum can act quickly enough to be of use in battle as a temporary means of overlooking injury - though with risk of addiction if characters use it mutliple times a week for an extended period (so not the Fallout 'bang, you're randomly addicted' thing, but a more realistic scenario where in a long campaign you need to keep track of who is using too much - someone with high enough doctor skill can know precisely how many days other characters must space out their opium doses.
- willow bark - i.e. aspirin - provides lesser pain relief, and anti-inflamatory effects that speed recovery while resting.
- hallucinogenic mushrooms can both give insights to scholars/artisans/philosophers while being a means of incapaciting your enemy if crafted into traps.
- integrate some speculative history, e.g. knowledge of cultivated antibiotics initially from herbal sources, later lost to the dark ages.

The characters who have these skills are seen as spellcasters. Similarly, 'mages' have knowledge of flammable substances, chemicals that burn 'cold' on impact and others which put out flames, chemicals that interact with oxygen to reduce the amount of oxygen in the room (sleep effect), combination with crafting to fling corpses from catapults to spread disease behind enemy lines, extraction of disease (from party members or others) and distillation into a weaponised potion form.

They'll be doing it on a rotating basis. Guy to contact is named Tony (can't remember his last name) but he works for Amazon's Digital Games department and posts on various forums. He's the first posted in this thread if you want to contact him through the CAG website. He also posts on reddit, too.

Azrael the cat, these are all good ideas and that makes sense but it concerns a small part of the game by going into quite a bit of detail. I am not sure if and when we will be able to accomplish this or things similar to this. We had quite a few ideas ourselves but we don't want to delay production time. Game design is done by now, and it's too late to insert new features but for expansions later on - why not? I think once the game is released and we work on the ports to Linux and Mac we will think about things to implement next and have a dialog about it.

Metro, thanks! I will check it out. The first link though doesn't seem to work - can you repost it?

Project is flushed down the toilet. The first vaporware of the Codex pet kickstarters. And people feared that Double Fine projects are scams.
Just kidding.
Am I?

So has anyone played the beta? Is it Good or Goblin? I was tempted to back the KS, but ultimately decided to wait and see

It is Chaotic good. The game plays like the predecessor, but the engine feels very clunky and unoptimized.

Perhaps they shouldn't have advertised for a native English speaker, it obviously means something else in :patriot:

Well, Joel is a native English speaker... It only shows in addition to a writer we also need an editor, and we got one. English texts are in better shape anyway than other languages. Other languages translation is done in spare time by some of our backers and unfortunately this is not functional anymore, this is taking too long. New scenario that has been finished long ago is still not translated into German or French. We will have to look for other solutions and that's a bit hard with our limited financial resources. By the way, next week we want to start Early Access on Steam! It still remains a lot to do though...

Yeah, our game is hardcore, and our development process is hardcore as well :) By the way, all those who wanted tactical depth in combat - I think we might even have overdone it. But with all multiple characters, their and weapons bonuses, horses, spells it really gives a lot. We have been playing with healers, without, with church units, without and each time tactics are very different! We still struggle a bit with populating the world more and interface and journal issues, but believe me, the game is really a lot of fun now :)

We will release the game when it's ready. Unfortunately, this is hard to predict, and we don't want to rush releasing an unfinished game. We hope Early Access will give us time and resources to finish development. I wish things were easier, but the gamebecame much more complex than we envisioned earlier. While it's all nice and I am sure it will be at least appreciated by you guys and hardcore fans, it still adds to development time...

RE:
Hello everyone,

we are very happy to announce that today at 9AM PST (8PM Moscow) we start Early Access on Steam! We teamed up with the Humble Store (these are the nice people who run Humble Bundle) to distribute Steam keys and also DRM-free version of the game (DRM-free will be available a bit later but very soon). By the way, all of you who backed us or pre-ordered the game will receive BOTH Steam key and DRM-free!

Haba quoted a few lines about the update, but here it is in its full length:

What's new in the game

We could have written lots of stuff here, but we will just say two things: there is a new scenario Way Home, which is the second scenario of the big campaign, plus there are mounted units! Get your copy and have fun :)

Instructions

  • The email that you provided in the survey (the email for your first or the only copy of the game) will be the email used to redeem the game through the Humble Store. For those of you who have not filled out the survey, you will have to use the email that we have on file from Kickstarter (or Paypal.)
  • As we make new builds, you can use the Humble Store to download the latest versions, up to the final Release version and beyond.
  • The other digital rewards (PDF artbook, the OST) will all eventually be available for direct download DRM-free via the Humble Store when they are released.
We chose the Humble Store because it really makes the distribution process for you and us much easier (we actually don't know how we could have handled it ourselves). We looked at many other Kickstarter projects that used Humble Store for distribution and saw that it worked really well. And folks at Humble store were extremely helpful and friendly, we hope you like their distribution service and their store as we came to like it.

Getting your key

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/keyresender

Humble Store Accounts

If you don’t already have a Humble Store account, you can create one here: https://www.humblebundle.com/signup This is not required, but could be useful.

Email Matching (IMPORTANT!)

If you do already have a Humble Store account, your Humble Store account email MUST be the email for your first or the only copy of the game that you entered in your survey, otherwise you will not be able to add Legends of Eisenwald to your Humble Library.

If your email address has changed

You can change it in the Humble Helper https://www.humblebundle.com/humbler/cs. You can look up the old email address and then change it to the new one!

When will the game be released in full?

The best answer we can give right now is - as soon as we can. As soon as we see the game as ready and when you and our community will consider it ready. There are ways to speed up our development process but they usually require extra resources which we don't have.

One example here is our translation process. Our game is really story driven and there are a several story lines, so the amount of translation is really significant. In our current version there is no German or French translation of the new, Way Home scenario. We are very grateful to Michael and Philippe who have been taking care of the German and French translation so far, but they have their other jobs and were unable to finish it in time for Early Access launch and we, on the other hand, didn't want to delay this launch because of that. So, we will add these scenarios in German and French later, hopefully soon and we will look for other ways to get future translations done.

Another example is testing. Despite our efforts to create something systematic, it's still a bit irregular. We talked to other teams, for example some of the guys, who did Eador: Master of the Broken World and they highly recommended using companies who do stream lined testing. And again, lack of resources doesn't let us do it, at least yet but we really hope Early Access will help us out in his respect.

A note about Greenlight

Alexander wrote a blog piece about our experiences on Greenlight, including the overall look at the submission process at Steam. While it's a bit personal, if this is something of interest to you, check it out.

Thank you!

All of us at Aterdux
Keep up the good work Aterdux.

To anybody in the early access, can you please give me comparisons between this and Conqusitador? I really enjoyed that game, and would love to have more of the same.

How's the combat? Does it have AoOs? Is it deeper than Conquistador's?
And how's the writing for the quests and such?
Also, does your main character participate in battles?

Are your squadmates characters by their own, or disposable grunts? Or something in between? Xcom-style, maybe?
