I cannot fathom experiencing the glory of MM2 on anything other than PC. Are the console versions the ones with the battle screens for combat encounters? For me, that would lose a lot of the charm of the first person perspective and monster lists with the designated monster picture (ususally the most powerful one in the group) featured in the view port.

Looks pretty good to me. If it doesn't have any severe problems / missing content, it may be worth playing over the PC version. I'm looking for the opinion of someone who's played both extensively. (Jaesun? Sceptic?)

Must be some other Japanese port I was thinking of, or imagining. Carry on, then.

The console ports of MM2 don't know character positions. There's no front rank and no back rank so you can use ranged and melee weapons at any position, taking away some of the tactical depth. The SNES version is also censored, the ghoul in the screenshot above holds a mace instead of an arm in his hand for example.

The fact that archers were so much more powerful than the other classes and they could shoot in any position kind of makes this change less important. Maybe it was an attempt to make knights not totally useless.

Well, items' pluses is capped at +32 in the DOS version, while in the Amiga version it's +64.
Would be interesting to know hoe the console and Macintosh versions compare in that regard.

I was checking the notes I kept, and apparently at the end of the game, one of the weapons I had was a +29 Ice Sickle.

Would be great to go around with a +57 variant of that item!

I'll tell you the reason why the question about other versions of the game interested me. Might & Magic II represents for me officially moving on from consoles to PC gaming. 25 years ago, I got both Dragon Warrior and MMII on the same day. I played Dragon Warrior for a little bit, maybe a couple of hours. And then installed Gates to Another World. Stayed up until 6 am the next morning. The rest is history.

Knights get an extra attack every 4 levels, archers only every 5. Knights also level up faster which even increases their hitpoint and number of attacks advantage.

Archers have the most powerful damage spell in the game which is vastly superior to melee, in addition they can shoot any rank in combat, they are likely to hit more often and the damage is comparable, they can attack from the back ranks so are likely to survive longer and gain more experience. Hit point differences are negated by the 1000 hit point bonus and at max level hitpoints are limited only by gold.

Even with their advantage with number of attacks knights suck big time.

So in MM1 I've encountered a black knight escorted by a number of assassins near the ice princess. After having finished the encounter you'll come up against them again while searching for items. Is this just a neverending process in order to farm EXP or is there something more to it?

Ice Princess....hmm is that the one who gives riddles in the ice area? cant remember an ice princess but i kinda remember someone with riddles.

But i think there are fixed encounters on the game map, so it could be one of those.

Indeed, she's the one who gives you the diamond key. Though I failed miserably at her riddle, had to consult a female friend who nailed it in first try
Answer was love... My first guess was strong nuclear force

I don't remember if that encounter was important. I think it wasn't, but I remember that sometimes you had to fight an encounter more than once, and that knight was once such case for sure.

Regarding the MM2 discussion, I'll go with the PC version over the Genesis. The Genesis has some advantages like having music, and spell lists in game, but the PC version works faster, it's uncensored, is more tactical and let's you import characters from MM1.

New mod for Might and Magic VIII!

Ser Ironfist said:
Hi guys,

Now I hope this will be a little bit more informative than before. :D "Day of the serious Destroyer" aims to make the game more challenging.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Il1y-Vvb0V4&feature=youtu.be

stronger monsters
- changes to hp, spells etc.

I did not change every monster. Wasps for example are nearly the same as before. Others are a lot tougher, like ogres or gorgons.

variety
- for example you can find ogre brawlers and mages in Alvar and pirate shooters and mages in Daggerwound

I tried to use some of those monster, that actually don't appear very much in the vanilla game. I never had a real fight against a minotaur. Now I invented a little alliance between Regna and some minotaurs. :)
I got a new concept for the Plane between the Planes. Generally you will find a lot of monsters in areas where you don't expect them.

spells
- spells cost a lot more gold
- light and dark x4
- all other x2

npcs

- for example Devlin Arcanus has lost all his knowledge about dark magic and Ithilgore is level 1

I did not find another way to edit spells so I decided to make it a little harder to get them.

For installation simply copy the "EnglishT" file into your data folder and replace the old file.

The Might and Magic 8,5 Team is calling to arms!

If you love classic Might & Magic universe by New World Computing, always wanted to reveal its story more and participate in the largest MM6-8 modding project ever known, we are open to new members!

Today's post will be concerning the artists.

1) Low-poly 3D modeling. Dungeons, locations, level design, environment objects. The add-on being developed is supposed to have a lot of new interesting locations which will be using the engine capabilities at their maximum, somewhere even being closer to Might and Magic IX.

1.2.jpg

2) High-poly 3D modeling. Characters, creatures, building interior scenes. Currently there is a pretty large amount of work on this direction which slows the team down, because we draw additional attention to the quality of sprites and overall graphics which characterize the entire game.

3) 2D art. Textures, concept art, interface art, various. Those who are familiar with Photoshop, GIMP, MyPaint or other soft for digital 2D art are always welcome since there is always work on these directions. Sketches and drafts included.

The world of Might&Magic awaits!

And GreatEmerald has made a Arcomage clone game, and its now done!

GreatEmerald said:
So I ported my previous Arcomage game from using SDL 1.2 and C to using SDL 2.0 and D. Since the previous name "Arcomage Clone" sounded pretty uninspired, I called the new project DArcomage.

It's working well enough now, has all the features of the previous one, plus some new ones: there's now fully working sound, and walls no longer have their parapets drawn when they are completely down (but still have them if they have at least 1 point, so it's easy to tell at a glance if the wall exists or not). Also a few bug fixes from the original, like the tower no longer floats up when it's built.

Currently I'm only doing this on Linux, and you can find the source here: https://github.com/GreatEmerald/darcomage

And now there are white and black cards:

Black cards cost nothing to play, whereas white cards cost all resources equally.

And now it's released! Here's the preview video covering the most important changes:

And you can download the game here:

Nothing like a bunch of traveling Wizards and Warriors going from town to town just to visit the local Inn and hit up the locals for a game of Acromage.

Just about to start MM2, and wanted to import my party from MM1. However having a few problems, MM2 is unable to find the file in the directory the roster.dta file is located.
Currently it's located in C:\Dosgames\MM1\ROSTER.DTA, typing that in the transfer option it says "file not found". Tried putting it into other directories with no luck, any tips or should I just reroll a new party?

Ultima II did it all the way back in 1982, it made little sense in that case as well.
