Immediately after taking the feat I got a ton of "New Journal Entry: %beastname%" messages.

Hehe - anyone interested in a "Let's Play the Witcher!" thread?

No, not really, I think we've all played it ourselves pretty recently.

I just finished it this weekend and thought the end to be pretty awesome. Especially since "global cooling" made the world like it is in that future vision

And the ending movie fucking screams for a sequel or expansion!

So there's only one ending? And the game has button mashing combat in real time AND there are no party members...

WHy does the codex like it then?

Obviously this is a proof for what I've always said that it's not the elements that matter, it's the design itself.
(but it does have pretty sweet CnC and there are 3 endings. And the combat is the exact opposite of button mashing. In fact, it's about NOT mashing the buttons).

Its more than the sum of its parts, has good Choices and consequences, and was released by a relatively unknown developer without much hype - and only on the PC. ;)

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
And it has sex-cards, twitchy action-combat, no character creation, no party, no application of skills during dialogue...

Everything the Codex likes! :salute:

Buy The Witcher now!

This is enough to make me buy it.

Seriously, the game is pretty good. Not as awesome as I expected, but good. Combat is nice, the alchemy system is pretty fun, the story is good [especially the epilogue], and you get some choice and consequence moments that are most of the time choices between only two or three things, but complicated choices that really make you think what to choose. It's a good game for sure.

And it has sex cards.
And a fully naked dryad. Actually, two of them. Yes, fully naked.

But it isn't made with editor, but with photoshop or something like that.

Who said it was done with editor?

Anyway this is enough to make a furry she-male from Morenn (with flat dick attached to leg). HEAVAN!

Well, I finally finished it. It's good enough that I'm planning on playing it in the very near future with that improved translation mod, but it was still severely over-hyped.

The Good:

Very, very, very pretty.

Lots of neat things to do with items (alchemy, gift-giving, forging)

Lots of nicely sketched-in characters to talk to.

The Neutral:

There isn't really any gameplay. Combat consists of clicking on shit. Click once, then let it ride until gerry does his little flourish swishy-sounding thing and then click again. It's completely mindless, but it's not really irritating, just boring.

Storyline. The characterization of the villains is lousy. The story starts out interesting and then turns into the generic, "TEH CHOSEN 1 MUST STOP THE ULTIMATE EEVAL!!!" The ultimate evil guy is a nutjob (and you get no dialog options to call him on it), he's not even remotely interesting. Then after you defeat the final boss, some chickenshit that you met in a sidequest in Bumfuck, Nowhere magically appears and tells you that he's the final boss. He dies in about 23 seconds.

The Bad:

Extremism: Instead of Bioware's "you are presented with a divorce case, you can either reconcile the couple or kill them both unnecessarily", the witcher has "you are presented with a divorce case, you can kill the wife for no reason or kill the husband for no reason" There is almost never an option to behave like a reasonable person (ex. you find a lynch mob about to lynch someone, she's being blamed for crimes which they committed and she is only an accessory. You can either let them kill her or prevent her from being tried at all; there's no option to offer to try her if the mob will also try it's guilty members or to offer to barter something (say your services in slaying the local monster) for her life. It's grab collars or go home.

JRPGness: You can't really customize your character (you'll end up a master of everything in the end due to points overflow) and he'll frequently do shit that I don't like. You just don't get any control over it; it's sort of like playing Prince of Persia; there's a cutscene, the prince says something, if you don't like it, just keep playing and hope for better in the next cutscene. There's some of this at the start, but it just ramps up through the roof in the final two chapters.

Videogamessuck have reviewed The Witcher a month ago.

The fighting animations also get pretty damn boring and repetitive as well. They seem cool at first until you see Geralt do the same damn moves constantly. It's more repetitive then lesbian porno, we know you like eating each other out, DO SOMETHING ELSE FOR ONCE.

The review is fairly positive and lulz worthy.

By the codex. Because there wasn't much hype initially.

I'll swear that theres some kind of hype modifier that means the average joe overrates games given a lot of hype, and the codex underrates them - and vice versa for games with little or no hype.

That said, I thought the Witcher was pretty decent.

Uh? You do realize the guy you just killed was Alvin, the little boy? It's an ingenius plot-line.

Also the prophesy didn't say anything about Geralt stopping the ultimate evil. The prophecy told that Alvin will save the world and Geralt foiled his attempt.
