Don't forget that RED engine is a modified neverwinter nights 1 engine (aurora), currently they have red 3 engine which STILL is a heavily modified nwn 1 engine....... some codexer hate witcher because it probably reminds them unconsciously of NWN why some like it........ thus the secret of witcher is revealed, Witcher is a just big mod for NWN.
That is why the combat in Witcher 1 2 and 3 is and will be such a travesty, because NWN was turn based and not some pseudo action quasi combat game.
Witcher would be much better with turn based combat becuase the engine it uses was made for it.
In essence a 2015 game is using a 11 year old engine, talk about slam dunks.I don't think even Bioware or Obsidian made such a dunk.

Witcher one was built on a heavily modified Aurora engine. They say approximately 80% of it was rewritten. Then, CDPR started working on Witcher 2 that was to use an evolution of the W1 engine. The screenshots you posted are from a tech demo on the engine. This is as far as they ever got with it. At the same time they were working on their own engine that was to be used for Witcher 3. It had nothing to do with Aurora. it was called REDengine.

Due to some financial turmoil associated with the failed attempt to convert the 1st game for the consoles as Witcher: White Wolf (there may also have been technical problems/limitations with Aurora, but I only read one source where it was only vaguely hinted), they cancelled all the work on the Aurora Witcher 2 and decided to use the then unfinished REDengine to make the second instalement in the series.

So please, stop pulling info out of your ass.

The point of the discussion is this quote:

In any case, no witcher game looks like NWN 1 in anyway. Not even NWN 2. Even if the engine is the same. The only unconsciously relation codexers would see probably is the bioware logo on the intro of witcher 1, but then the codex would hate mask of the betrayer.

But i'd say the witcher has more resemblance in presentation with the mass effect series, which uses the unreal engine.

In any case, that quote would be the same as saying half-life 2 is a big mod for Quake.

Even if Red engine had its basis in Aurora, which it doesn't, who fucking cares. It looks and works well either way, more than Aurora ever did.

Looks great. Add the sharper textures for the PC and it will look fantastic.

The grass doesn't look good but that's kind of a spergy detail. The overall scene looks fantastic.

Also, that's a particularly invasive HUD.

The top one looks pretty shit I have to say. Foliage looks crap and the scene is really lacking in depth.

Modded Skyrim is probably a better game than this turd.
And you can mod any crappy sedan to be better than a roadster.

Maybe it will look better, maybe the combat will be better, but you still need someone to sit on retarted NPCs, script/plot, quests. No one is doing that.

Yeah. Looks like the Aurora engine alright.

The stopped using the modded Aurora engine after Witcher 1..

Everything looks fine except the foliage in the top picture.. although it's very possible a screenshot just caught them in a bad light.. If that foliage has any kind of reaction to wind or physics when you walkthrough it.. and has slightly better texturing on PC.. I think it will look fine.

Other then that.. game looks amazing.. This is what Inquisition wants to look like but can't because every ones face is made of some weird playdo material..

Witcher 1 looks better than W 3

WITCHER 1 SS

vs

WITCHER 3 SS

First off.. your top screenshot is 99% skybox.. that island in the distance and water is an illusion / painted texture in itself and the grass is blurry as fuck.

I agree the texture on that particular foliage looks a little nicer but you cherry picked an image with basically just a 2D image of a sunset painted on top of some bearable grass and compared it to a game that actually uses in-game travelable areas as it's far distance.. That mountain in the bottom picture is not a skybox. If you look at the texture of the ground, it's not even comparable..

There's not enough DOF or bloom in those screenshots to be from the finished game.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-03-04-new-witcher-3-gdc-gameplay-footage

New Witcher 3 gameplay footage was shown at GDC, demonstrating, it seems, on Nvidia's streaming tech, Grid.

Charismatic CD Projekt Red gameplay designer Damien Monnier can be heard narrating the demo, which shows Geralt in a forested area as the sun rises.

The appealing scene gets an applause before Monnier announces, "It's not even on the highest setting. We're saving this for when you buy the game - we want you to get a bit of a slap across the face." The rascal.

The footage does a good job of highlighting a typical open-world combat encounter with some wolves, which are dispatched easily here but - at earlier levels - sure bite hard.

Later, game hero Geralt can be seen deflecting arrows using a passive upgradable ability, a bit like a Jedi or Sith bats away blaster fire in Star Wars (although Geralt doesn't redirect the bolt back to its target).

Monnier also remarks about there being no lag when stream-controlling The Witcher 3 from the new Nvidia Shield console, although he probably would say that on stage during an Nvidia conference.

The Witcher 3 comes out 19th May on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
