Not that the companies understand that, mind you.No dude. People make games, not company names.

Buying Homefront over Darksiders doesn't have anything to do with what good IPs they are or aren't. Homefront 2 was in development for a year already. It's a small investment for Crytek to finish their work. Darksiders 3, on the other hand, was not in development and would be a huge investment money wise for a game that would be several years away, especially since Joe Mads, the creative vision behind the franchise left THQ months ago.
"These franchises hold a special place in the hearts and minds of anyone who loves exceptional video games," said Deep Silver COO Geoff Mulligan.
Are they out of their minds?Volition (studio) and Saints Row (IP)
Winning bid: $22.3 million - Koch Media GmbH (Deep Silver)
Backup bidder: $5.4 million - Ubisoft
"Oh, what's that, you wanted the rights to your game? Aw, what a cute bid. Nah, you're ours now."Evolve (IP) aka Metamorphosis
Winning bid: $10.894 million - Take-Two Interactive
Backup bidder: $250,000 Turtle Rock Studios, Inc.
The total amount raised needed to beat the $60 Million stalking horse bid Clearlake offered in the first place: http://venturebeat.com/2012/12/19/thq-files-for-bankruptcy-assets-sold-to-investor-clearlake/ or THQ would have remained whole, transferred to Clearlake and they wouldn't have gotten anything.I would have thought they let the parties know what the others were bidding but I guess not. Talk about overshooting the mark. They both wasted ten million+ for no reason.
Uplay South Park?,there goes my Day One Purchase™,I hope Matt and Trey win the lawsuit and get the rights to the game
They'll probably argue that DRM doesn't change the quality of the game itself. Prepare for UPlay, always online and starforce shenanigns :3
Or Vigil might have a bunch of liabilities, so the buyer would have to inject a ton of cash right away to keep the studio from going under. There must have been minimums for the bidding. Otherwise I could have shown up and bought Vigil for $5.

Regarding THQ/Publishers/KickStarter etc.: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-01-11-redesigning-game-design
First, don't treat every title as if it were going to be the next AAA blockbuster by giving it a two-year development time (or more) and a $50 million budget.
Adjust the scope of the design so it's doable in 12 months with a reasonable team size.
