Unfortunately, as yet there is no opportunity to meet with Tanner after visiting Deep Caverns.
So it was just a quick load, after I read the topic on the official forum, which tells how he can be killed. Just a courtesy visit. =)

My guess it's pre-patch. It got reported already, so if you want to off Tanner that way, you better hurry.
