"...especially close our hearts."

And did better than our whole bullshit Kickstarter campaign in 3 days...:negative:

Zep--

I still blame the audience more than anything. For all the people that enjoy First Person RPGs out there, few have respect (or comprehension of) for the original masters who did it best.
Curse all declinefags.

I don't understand why you have been in a consistent beer-fueled rage state, Zep. Sure their approach to the KS was underwhelming but you're obviously a fan, assuming based on your avatar. Is there no hope in your mind, or has the decline truly got to you?

I loved UU1 more than all the stupid blackrock shit in UU2.

AM I an UU fan, yes.

The decline is from their lackluster, last mile, last hoo-raa pitch.

Remember me? I did something cool 30 years ago. I'm old and broke now...but would like 20 year old girlfriend....Interested? I has Viagra!

Is that really what this is though, a half-assed, compromised cash-in? Again, there's certainly some underwhelming aspects at play but maybe this truly is the UU3 Neurath has been dreaming to make for 25 years...? Maybe it could be the next level for the Immersive Sim? I know if I were in that position with a dream I'd be a little upset with the negative reactions of the audience and weak financial support in comparison to other KS' (relatively strong when looked at singular though). Hell I'm upset over the underwhelming support for my current vision of incline.

You were singing of the decline from the very beginning, what makes you so certain beyond numerous yet not definitive clues?

Issue #3, June 12th 2015
Enter the Lich

As many of you have likely noticed, fundraising for Underworld Ascendant is hovering just below the $900K mark. While language localization, the stretch goal at the $900k level, is important for our non-English speaking fans, it’s not a particularly “sexy” feature and seemingly not one to bring in new backers, or excite old ones.

So, we’re adding Liches to the $900K stretch goal. Sexy enough for ya?

GIuP_ssYPq0KT67q9JbRTiAUz28mA7FX_urUdvKVIKds-oZ2cnlM4YwrBASBr5GCD_ff75WKRQVF9c21Eyv5zDpmffdbFtbr0Cv0KVlYqM7-vueZyE-ga-hTZpvCOnnGULVm8gX6VdK5W_qFPGmkWIHlPhQykeTQ2ghyr3o=s0-d-e1-ft

Liches are one of the most feared adversaries one can encounter in the Underworld. Old, powerful and full of hate, liches were once powerful wizards who, in a desperate bid for immortality, have sacrificed their souls to gain forbidden knowledge and eternal life as an undead necromancer. Forever damned, liches sit on their thrones of bone awaiting the time when their powers are strong enough for them to rise up and dominate the living.

Soon these terrible beings will be in the game. Have fun with that!

In addition, not only will we add liches to the game as a creature type, but we will also add one particular lich to Underworld Ascendant with its own unique personality and motivations. Thought killed long ago by a great hero, the evil wizard Tyball survived his fate to become a being of even greater power.

KToPHim3p4pEwZ--sdaKl6jDOgDaSZ3u_kG2J9lKWUFr3pTKF53UCRuFbHxEdxvOZeGJUXEYv76gGnpStWBmatKJI4L2G3vTRfGs124Fy75YwzcWnvCzfVq62dPkvT9QZqBI-lrRsyvU5exO36kDomDkoLTj45-nl6D8IDw=s0-d-e1-ft
Tyball, moments before his “death”

After a lifetime immersed in the primal forces of the universe, the skeletal remains of the sorcerer Tyball have held firm to the material plane, refusing to descend into nothingness. Where it steps, weeds wither and the bones of the fallen rise, full of malevolent intent. Does it recall the many acts of treachery and depravity in its past? Or is it simply a violent, hate-filled echo of its former consciousness? Whatever the case, the lich remains. A villain before, now… an abomination.

The Necropolis of the Ancients, an area of the Underworld that will unlock when we hit $950K in fundraising, would make a good stomping (haunting?) ground for Tyball, don’t you think? First let’s invite Tyball into our playground, then let’s give him a home!

Next Wednesday, June 17th, OtherSide Entertainment will be conducting another game-play twitch session. This time, we’ll be playing Payday 2. Why Payday 2? Well, other than its more fun than a Stygian death trap, we specifically want to look at the game’s skill tree and advancement systems. And rob some banks. Mostly the bank bit.

So join Paul, Chris, Tim, and Will next week for all the fun!

Good idea, shame they didn't think of it earlier.

Also, they did another BT4 shoutout, wow.

This thing just sounds more desperate as it goes.

Disrespectful, despicable miscreants. Reserve thy judgement.

Yeah, as per your first quote, "Is that really what this is though, a half-assed, compromised cash-in?"

[Setting: Meeting before playing another useless game on twitch.]
[Director of Mo' Money]: "Our stretch goal aint bringin' in the dosh, bros...Need something new to separate the money from the suckas wallets."
[Everyone]: Add a Lich?

If the money is to go into the game, not the alleged viagra/hookers, what's the problem?
And why assume we are viewed as "suckas" and not respected? Why assume that this is not a grand vision 25 years in the making? ...well, it doesn't come across as one tbh, but who knows how many piles of concepts Neurath has lined up?

Why come back from the dead just to make shit? I'm sure Neurath was being paid handsomely as executive of Zynga, and he could have instead of this got a similar position.

Do you still read it, or are you one of those crabapples who quit the site when they started having fun fictionalizing the entries extravagantly?

EDIT: amusing typo

No. I'll never be like you. I'm jaded as fuck, and usually see the worst in people, but I grant most people the benefit of the doubt until something solid emerges, especially when they have such a fucking solid track record.
This shit is underwhelming, granted, but I have too much respect for their concepts and struggles of the past to start slinging shit so aggressively this early.

Haha, you got me, but I think I quit reading *DailyWTF around 2006-2007? When did the fictionalizing start?

Zep--
*Gotta read something when you're at work and bored.

I don't recall exactly. I just remember from reading the comments that there was a minor exodus of "grumpy oldschool IT dude" types when the site started becoming more, uh, "preppy" I guess.

There was also a rather embarrassing period of a year or so when they changed the site's name to "Worse Than Failure" because "WTF" was obscene or whatever. And there were these awful comic strips, except they turned out to be kind of fun because people made their own parody versions and posted them in the comments. Ah, good times.

I think I quit going when they changed the site layout to something that would qualify as a DailyWTF. I didn't have time to learn their Web 2.0 bullshit.

No matter how many times we get burnt by this shitty industry there's always hope. There has still been some really great old school-principled yet progressive games released in the past few years, as rare as they may be. It is definitely worth holding on to some hope. Hell, I'm the one that got fed up with the Bioshocks, the Invisible Wars of the gaming world and decided to bring the incline myself (Link), but I never let go of hope because there's always been that game.

So maybe you have a developed sense for sniffing out the bullshit, or maybe your senses are just declining with age.

It's interesting to see an oldfag who recognizes the decline though. Most old fags I've seen on the net are appreciative of what they have got because the technology is so advanced since their childhood, but you know full well the design, the most important element, isn't. It was Nuerath & Co that was one of the greatest pioneers of design of the '90s, so chill the fuck out.

The point is not if they get more or less money, the point is that these guys give the impression (see how I say impression) that they are desperate and that they don't really know what they're doing.

This argument turned out to be timed rather auspiciously with the latest Bard's Tale IV Kickstarter update.

BTW, I'm curious, how many default Unity assets in this video?
