What game are you wasting time on?

Mirror's Edge sequel. It really shouldn't have been open world. The main missions are alright, but the "overworld" is confusing to navigate. There are lots of gaps in the city that force you to go around and follow the same paths over and over. I finally turned runner's vision back on because I was tired of running in circles and hitting dead ends. Seems like runner's vision is disabled in the more challenging platforming sections of the main missions, which is good. Well, as challenging as this game can be. It's never really hard. The side quests (mostly delivery missions) are bland. I do like the new directional attacks. It's a mediocre game, though. The original always felt like it needed something more, and so does the sequel.

Doom (2016) is fun, but a little monotonous. It's nice to play a new shooter with so much speed and mobility, though. No ADS to slow things down. No long-winded cutscenes every five minutes.

Also, I've been trying to beat MP3's New York Minute Hardcore. I got all the way to the graveyard yesterday, but then, stupidly, picked up the grenade launcher. https://youtu.be/sFnkIZJdR2E

results from trying out my recent steam purchases

mad max - played for about 20 minutes, got bored, uninstalled

shadow of mordor - didnt like the clusterfuck controls after the very first tutorial fight, uninstalled

oblivion - better than prometheus

rebel galaxy - havent played it yet

witcher 3 - fired it up for the opening cutscene so i could set the graphics up then closed it to play some more oblivion (hahah)

will probably start witcher 3 soon; ive been busy shifting house the last month so time is at a premium; much like the length, girth and taste of my penis

I've been on a shooter mood lately, just wanna point guns to things on my screen and watch them blow up, plan to replay alot of shooters and play some that I never played before. After replaying Medal of Honor Allied Assault and Call of Duty 1, I got hungry to play other WWII shooters and oh boy... the disappointment.

I just avoided all WWII shooters for consoles, saw some footage from them and , honestly, they just look like inferior versions of Allied Assault or Call of Duty 1 made by the B team, with terrible controls and stiff as fuck shooting made for controllers. Just played the PC versions of the few available and avoided most of the garbage.

Call of Duty II - Regenerating health, respawning enemies that only stop once you step up on the magic triggers that stop the respawning machine, pinpoint accurate enemies that can hit you from the other side of the map with MP40s and weapons so accurate that you can snipe dudes with submachineguns, all the sins are here, however, I still enjoyed it, it is the last Call of Duty game that I still enjoyed. Despite all the dumbdown, this game has a lengthy campaign, there are many levels where they let you loose a little, letting you fight the way you want with just some basic guidance, for the most time you won't watch some bossy dude ass yelling what you need to do all the time, this sort of decline was still to come.

You are placed on a series of shooting setpieces but the game still expects you to be minimally competent with them, the stage of decline where the game plays itself and you the player is more or less a camaraman on the awesome Michael Bay movie would only really come with Call of Duty Modern Warfare. Throwing smoke grenades and running like crazy mowing down blind nazis with the high capacity soviet machinegun is just base fun, not incline on any way but still fun.

Medal of Honor Airborne - This one is so sad to see, the concept is really nice, you start the level on the sky and need to guide your parachute to a landing zone, you can land anywhere on the map so the levels aren't completely linear as they use to be on those sorts of games, there is just a catch, the maps are small and unremarkable as fuck. I had some fun parashutting right next the main objective and starting mowing down nazis one after the other with a trench gun but the fun doesn't last long. The game is short as fuck with very few levels and the levels that are available, most are generic villages, generic radar station, generic industrial zone, so uninspired that hurts and the game finishes so quick you don't notice. To think, somewhere, some fucker, paid 60 dollars for this excrement is hilarious. The shooting kinda sucks too, enemies don't react to being shot and the weapons, especially the submachineguns are underpowered as fuck.

EA wasn't really trying with this title. Actually, EA is a mystery for me, if they did popamole, that is actually expected from greedy asshole companies but they even half ass popamole when they are fucking competing with franchises with better brand recognition. I think they are a corporation run by Doctor Evil wannabes with shitty plans to conquer the world that didn't gone down yet because some tards buy a FIFA game every year. If you are popamole, be at least competent at it, popamole and incompetent is just an achievement. How to ruin franchises? EA wrote the manual for that.

Call of Duty World at War - The dumbdown transformation is complete on this one and I won't even waste my time with the rest of Call of Duty games if they are similar to this game. You maybe like those sorts of linear scripted shooters but man, anyone that buys a Call of Duty after Call of Duty 2 is a fucking moron, sorry, Activision is inserting their corporate shaft on your ass and you are just a little bitch taking it all the way. Call of Duty 2 had 26 missions, World at War has 13 missions, Activision is selling you half or a quarter of the games they used to make.

Their shit are creatively bankrupt too, making questionable if even the little time wasted with this garbage is worthy it, there are some unbelievable sheep that sometimes comment that it doesn't matter if a game isn't lengthy if it is good, from where did you take that from? How about short AND bad? If you are dealing with a company like Activision, that is a very realistic thing to expect.

Most of the missions on World at War are bog standard stuff that were done better on Call of Duty 2, the fact the game focus so much on the exploited to exhaustion cliches of the soviet front and the boring as fuck Pacific front doesn't help either. They add some small stuff like flamethrowers, you being able to call artillery strikes and the japs on the Pacific War campaign sometimes yell Banzai before charging you for a quicktime event, instant death on failure... that is it. Activision is literally half assing Call of Duty 2 with some skins changed for more than a decade and 20 millions tards buy this shit every year. The human race deserves what it gets. Only a nuclear war can solve this.

I have massive backlog. Also it's been impossible to play just one game and finish it. Been like that for couple of years.

Zelda BOTW
on CEMU. I bought it for Wii U when it was released earlier this year but decided to wait until emulation gets better. Choosing between 720p or 5k + hires shadows + reShade is really a no brainer. Game is pretty comfy but I'm not huge fan. It's like Dark Souls in Nintendoland and it has it's moments of course. I can't play too long periods because it feels very lonely (or autistic?) sometimes and there is also tons of walking around. Good fun for rainy days I guess but way overrated in reviews.

Witcher 3 Been playing it on and off since it released but I still haven't finished it. It's gorgeous but... it's just like Assassin's Creed unfortunately. At least it doesn't have towers though...

Games which I actually try to properly finish at the moment are Baldur's Gate Trilogy with Big World Setup and Might & Magic X - Legacy. But it is incredibly hard to concentrate on one game alone. I don't know what has happened because in the past it didn't create any issues. I have lost my faith for gaming that's for sure.

Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, Redux mod v1.3

You know you play pretty much FTBOS by heart? Yeah, well, Redux change a fuckload of things, from weapons to perks to enemy number to random encounter zones. It's nearly a new game, kinda like Jagged Alliance 2 with mod 1.13 and buncha ton of mods compared to vanilla JA2

Because it's a great tactic game in Fallout universe? Sure, if you expect and want RPG then you are going to be sore and whiney. But if you want
Fucking turnbased, squadbased, gunporn, character management, team management, inventory management postapocalyptic tactic game
Then FTBOS is your choice.

Even Aftershock and Afterlight doesnt have the TB aspect. And Silent Storm, Sentinels, and Hammer Sickle, doesnt have the postapocalyptic aspect.

Finished Banner Saga 2,it's mostly the same game as the first one with some tweaks here and there so if you liked/hated the first one you know what to expect here.I didn't like the story so much but it's not bad, second one is also a short game like the first one too.Recommended

Call of Duty World at War.
What really ruined this for me was the fact that you'd never get killed instantly from getting shot and you always have the chance to regenerate your health back. Even though 2 did have the bullshit health regen, from what I remember at least sometimes you'd get killed right away and not even have the chance to regenerate.

Fire Pro Returns is starting to get on my nerves now with matches dragging out too long and just becoming battles of attrition way too often. I think maybe the finishers should be a bit harder to get off and do more damage probably.

Anyway looks like I'll be going back to ToEE pretty soon.

Incoming wall of text rant.

Dropped Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. The Shagaru, Shigeru or whatever fight felt completely wrong. First time I triple carted with the Charge Blade when Shagaru was limping already. Ok, went to my old but always trusty dual sword and basically hack'n'slashed the thing fairly quickly. There was no positioning involved, no cautiously placed attacks, nothing. Just mindless slashes and demon dances. Zero tactics involved, pure action and reaction.

Which brings me to my main gripe: monsters move too damn fast. So much at times it feels silly. Capcom turned MH into a twitch game instead of the whole observe, read the patterns and devise an strategy to exploit the openings. I think 3U did it right, the new monsters were all within the realm of realistic movement instead of spazzing all over the map. Of the new bunch of monsters, the only ones I liked were Seltas, Tetsucabra and Gore Magala (which would be excellent if its speed was tuned down a little).

Speaking of the maps, besides Primal Forest, everything else was a mess of ledges and slopes. Sanctuary was just painful, many times I ended up fighting the terrain instead of the monster! What nonsense it that? Spend time climbing a wall, when you finally reach the top the fucking monster decides to go down - lel, so fun! Dodge and attack, only to jump through a tiny ass ledge and get comboed to death.

Capcom also failed hard at redesigning the older Gen1/2 monsters. Was looking forward to Yian Garuga, always a fun fight in Freedom Unite. However, I got an adhd fueled bird in 4U. Rathalos is crap too, he was quite alright in 3U, when his easy to exploit movements in FU were fixed. Now he just spends 80% of the time flying, wasting your time and doing 360 noscope talon grabs. Oh, he can also tilt the terrain, for maximum annoyance.

As much as I liked the Charge Blade and tried to give a blind eye to all these issues, game is unfortunately fucking garbage. I know going back to FU design is wishful thinking, so at least I hope MH World retreat to 3U levels (sans the hp sponge monsters).

tl;dr - I don't like MH4U.

^How is this a wall of text? Come on, we're in a thread where actual walls of text arrive unannounced, and you go out of your way to proclaim that you have one ready and don't deliver

Looking a couple pages back, you got a point.

You're getting old. Happens to everyone. These days on most days that I try to play a game I just manage to open up Retroarch, load a bunch of old roms, fuck around and feel nostalgic and not really play anything. That, or load up Dosbox and fuck around, not really playing anything.

I've completely lost interest. Last game I liked was Hollow Knight but I didn't manage to finish it.

I do exactly the same thing. I set up lot of games and especially on emulators, then start up few of them and progress a while but after that it's just about tweaking some settings and browsing internet. Makes sense!

I think the same. 4U was still acceptable to some point but it clearly made way for more flashy and quick moves instead of methodical and tactical movement used in previous games. 3U is my favourite, I played that for 1500+ hours when it was first released. That was one of the only games in recent memory for which I could really put in the hours. But that was on Wii U which has online functionality. It was great to play with same group of international friends and chat bullshit along the way etc.

I tried MHX and it just doesn't feel good and somehow it looks stale compared to 4u... It's more of the same but even with more fancy moves.

It's sad that Capcom decided to streamline the gameplay and make it to appeal even more to Western audiences as seen on the new Monster Hunter World. Of course talking about unreleased game could be a mistake but everything what I have seen from it doesn't tickle my autism. Graphics are great of course but that's only one thing.

After trying for like twenty hours to beat New York Minute Hardcore in Max Payne 3, I give up. It wasn't dying that finally made me quit, it was all the random crashes. I'll be playing for an hour and then, bam, another crash. It's pretty disappointing that Rockstar only really cares about their latest games.

Steam sale was PoS this year, but now I was able to grab some gut gamz from GoG and gonna play them now:

Legend of Grimrock II - well, I wasn't a big fan of LoG1 even if I am EoB fanboy. Second game seems to be better, exploring the forest gives some Lands of Lore vibe which is fine.
Lords of Xulima - played just few minutes but it seems good. I like character creation and fights. Explorations... well, I belive it will get better with time.
Darkest Dungeon - on paper looks like GOTY, but we will see.
Avernum 1-6 - well, I grabbed it for ~1 buck (few potatos), it's the last game on my list. I've heard it's great (not as good as geneforge which I enjoyed few years ago)

I've started playing Stalker Clear Sky recently, almost 10 years after playing SoC.
Really fun in Master difficulty, thanks mostly to the homing grenades flung at you by bandits across the map. Can't lower the diff. either, because of the bullet sponge.

Still enjoyable, despite a myriad of bugs, a scripted robbery in which you lose everything you have (items are re-obtainable while the money just vanishes forever), and a faction/turf system which is basically broken because of the constantly respawning enemies.

Legend of the Star gives you what aparently is the best laser pistol in the game. I dunno if you're using jsawyer, but iirc the mod makes the special caps appear on random bottles too; that could have been Yukichigai too, I can't remember now. Gameplay-wise might be a bummer to find them all so easily, but setting wise it makes more sense I guess. I assume you killed the deathclaws at the cave too?

Even in vanilla there is a small chance to get a star cap after drinking sarsparilla iirc
