Why Crysis still looks better than most of todays games?

The only reason Crysis "pushed hard" is because it was a tech demo for their engine in hopes of people buying it.
You can tell becasue the gameplay was an afterthought.

Crysis was shit. Basically a glorified tech-demo-benchmark tool. Shittily optimizied for how it looked back then. Story was shit, the singleplayer was forgettable, shit gunplay, ai and shooter elements in general.

Nobody really played it, they just wanted to test how their SUPREMENEWWW GUD PC ran it, bro. And then to measure e-dicks.

So basically a doom 3 phenomenon.

Crysis is a weird game in the sense that it's a tech demo that has actually got better with time. In 2007 it was easy to just ignore it as a shallow game with top-of-the-line graphics and not much else, but nowadays you can appreciate it for being a decent shooter from an era where decent shooters were about to go extinct.

No, and also it depends how you define "shooter"

Battlefield and battlefront series are both miles better than crysis in terms of graphics, gameplay and story. So no. Doom 4 was fun too, and better than crysis for me.

Overwatch, Bioshock, Dishonered, Deus Ex HR and MD, Titanfall 2, The Division, Arma 3. Plenty of shooters look, play and feel better than crysis.

I'm gonna be edgy now, and say how hatred for Crysis is in large part related to something other than its actual quality. At the time of its release, only a small portion of players could properly enjoy it due to its hardware demands, and it stayed like that for a while which resulted in rivers of salt.

It's a flawed game, but it was an objective step up from first Far Cry, and it was among the very last major singleplayer PC FPSs and the best game Crytek made (actually, last worthwhile game they ever made). Its fate reminds of Unreal in some ways, even though I love Unreal significantly more. Both games were undeservedly branded as little more than tech demos, both had console-compromised singleplayer sequels that abandoned much of what made original games good.

Actually the first far cry was far better than Crysis. There was some difficulty to it and there was actual level design in its open world
