You went through a lot of trouble to hide your character name in that screenshot but forgot that Grid shows your class and the first 3 letters of your name.

Insert clever insult here
People streamed your AQ40. It's a disgrace. But what else can you expect from a server which didn't have a working Onyxia for over 3 years? :D I don't know whether it was because your only dev was too busy with something else, or your shitty players didn't report it, because EZ-mode Onyxia meant more loot for everyone but it's ridiculous that it required Nost-refugees coming to your server for the very first raid boss to be "discovered" to be bugged to all hell.

The big RP event before opening the gate wasn't working properly - mind visioning a boss pulls it - totems get plague - huhuran does almost no damage - stingers don't charge - vekniss drones didn't spawn - and a million other things. Exiled 30-manning to Twin Emperors on their first try tells it all: your AQ-event and both raids are stock mangos shit that hasn't been touched. The reason why no server has launched them is that they are very difficult to script correctly. AQ20 was being fixed on Nost PTR before the shut down but of course Rebirth has no bugtracker or PTR to test things out before "releasing" them.

As for Imbaslap - you don't have to like the guy but having GMs so butthurt about someone badmouthing their precious server on Reddit, that they ban that player, is a sure sign of danger. But since you're like 99% one of those GMs, I guess it's pointless to debate that.

Anyone playing on K2 currently? Alliance or Horde? Currently thinking on leveling a warrior to 60 there, could use some leveling pals.

So what's up with Nostalrius? They're apparently brewing to get it started again or something, considering Blizzard won't deliver on Legacy server at Blizzcon.

Can you cheat in that? Would be kind amusing to be running around in Molten Core or the like in god mode.

Yes, you could make a GM account. But there's also this script called "Solocraft" and VAS autobalance that's supposed to scale things to your level on dungeons and raids, so you can beat all content solo and without having to be level 80. You can also disable it, and spawn playerbots or npcbots to go with you. Yes, there are two kinds of bots... Npcsbots are supposed to be simple, like minions. Playerbots have more commands, but require more "maintenance".
Warsong Gulch BG is available too.

I have a very tangentially related question (honestly because it's also private server related) - on a random WOTLK server I'm buddying up with a Hunter player. Rolled a Druid because I wanted to be a bear tank, a favourite archetype of mine since Diablo 2. It's very fun, but I recently realized that we have a lot of overlap on stats and items. Of the two of us, I have Leatherworking so I guess I can use recipes and boost them up, but still, we're obviously both gonna have cravings for Agility items, and I also like Attack Power (for Swipe and Maul, and just questing). It has never been a problem for us, but I foresee it might. Somehow. And there's that little bit of regret when we are selling swords/plates/mails and what not. It's immediately thrown aside because my bear is kickass and fun, but still.

I honestly just really like playing tanks and support roles, and queuing for dungons as Tank/DPS gives us remotely quick queues, so I wouldn't mind trying out a Paladin or Warrior and rack up the Plates and pump Strength and all, and we're both only level 23, but is my concern actually problematic at all, or should I just not worry?

So precisely fuck all came out of this for the immediate future, but it might benefit players in the long run. Massive disappointment if anyone was expecting Nostalrius 2.0, though.

Now is the time for Legacy community reunification
by Viper » 06 Nov 2016, 20:22

Ever since our first official contact with Blizzard, we have had such high expectations. It was of course a great honour to meet with Mike Morhaime and the WoW team, and share our passion as true fans of Blizzard games, but our primary goal was to convince them with our experiences that now is the ideal time to merge back the legacy community - which feels that the game they loved was lost when Cataclysm was released 6 years ago.

After the meeting with Blizzard, we continued to reach out regarding the issues they raised in order to help them as much as possible and to speed up the process of an official release. Trust us, we were ready to work like hell on that, even more than before in order to help WoW team. But we never received any response to these questions, even after 4 months. Then, we tried to show our motivation to solve the issues from a different angle by working on mature proposals (studies, cost analysis, schedules, milestones, etc.), including a complete transfer of technology of our existing work, fixing the few remaining issues we had, official Battle.Net integration on Legacy to enhance community driven strategy and other more complex IT topics, all of this on a volunteer basis. Why? Our only goal was to nullify as much as possible the impact of Legacy on the WoW team so that everyone could be pleased with the result. We knew that having even a single person from the current WoW Team working on Legacy might not be seen in a positive light by the Legion community, something we understand. Sadly, we never received any answers to these proposals either.

Blizzcon got closer by month after month, then week after week, and all the while we had a constant flow of messages from the community solidly supporting the idea of legacy servers. So we decided to take the risk of challenging Blizzard regarding Legacy servers and lighting the flame of hope for one final burst. Why? Because there are many MMORPGs coming in 2017 and 2018, mainly from Asia and also including crowd funded projects. Vanilla WoW fans were already disappointed by the stance Blizzard had adopted for so many years, and many of those people might never come back unless things moved fast on the subject.

WoW Vanilla is still an attractive game, with the potential to be a tremendous success even for players who had not played it before, as demonstrated by our data published in the Post-mortem. Don't get us wrong, it's not about whether Legion is better than Legacy or vice versa. Both have pros and cons and address the tastes of different players - that's the point. Everyone should try understand the viewpoints of both:

* The legacy community has been waiting for many years to touch once again what they truly love. There is no need for any explanation because that's the definition of passion: it cannot be explained nor understood, but sometimes lead to the most beautiful things you have ever seen.

* And on the other hand, today's Legion community enjoys a different and newer vision of the game and other great Blizzard products, but feels harassed by people who are desperate to reclaim an older, and just as great version of WoW.

Still, both consist of gamers in love with the same thing: the World of Warcraft universe. Legacy servers are a complementary service, that actually broadens and strengthens the whole WoW community, bringing more challenges and fun to everyone as described in the survey we did months ago until new choices appear. Regarding Legacy community, what we can say for sure is that we always saw so much unity and positive attitude for World of Warcraft during the time we had the opportunity to work on it: so strong when it was alive, yet so fragile and difficult to preserve.

J.Allen Brack announced prior to Blizzcon, that the topic of Legacy WoW wouldn't be addressed during Blizzcon despite the hundreds of thousands of people requesting it. Matt Goss also said the same thing during Blizzcon. Still, we should not forget that Blizzard is the owner of World of Warcraft and would be for sure the most able to restore it. Until they disclose a schedule (if they do), the Legacy community will have to assume there will not be an official Blizzard release of Legacy WoW - possibly for very long time.

So, it's time for us to release our source code and additional tools to the community in the hope that it will maintain the Legacy community as much as possible until Blizzard announces an official Legacy plan - should they decide to do that.

The source code will be first given to an existing Legacy project which we believe to be the most in line with our core values, named Elysium. This server shares the volunteer spirit and passion for the game we had. Furthermore, an important part of Nostalrius volunteers are already working there, some under different names. We wish them all the best, and hope that they will become a new home for the reunited Vanilla community. We will continue collaborating closely with them. This collaboration could include additional "things" to share with them if necessary to achieve this goal. In exchange, this server promised to not receive any profit from this activity. They will also have to create the documentation required to install, understand and use the work we did.

Once this work has been done, source code & documentation will be release to the public. Goal is to have the same user friendly development package as we did for our Burning Crusade project. All of this to help developers who want to work in the gaming industry later understanding how a server works, as Nostalrius server backbone can be considered as one of the rare production server of that scale to become available. The purpose of this will still remain mainly educational in nature.

We worked hard for the last 6 years on this project, even if most of you only experienced it for just one year. A list of all the volunteers who worked here will be provided soon. We know that it may be difficult to understand our motivation: spending all this time for a passion on a volunteer basis. Maybe it is heresy. But for us, if you're good at something, it's your duty to give back one way or another.

It was a great journey, you are an amazing community, and we believe that stories which started with Nostalrius have not come to an end!

The plot thickens. Now only real question is whether Elysium aka Valkyrie management is any good.
https://valkyrie-wow.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=22768

Dear community,

We want to start by thanking you all for your patience. We know it has not been easy for you to wait amidst all of the rumors and hype. We too have been very excited and have struggled to keep the secret! So without further delay, let's get to it!

It continues

As you may have already read in the latest Nostalrius announcement, Elysium will now proudly revive and continue what began a year and half ago. We will be gratefully accepting the core and player database of Nostalrius. This means that Nostalrius, exactly as you know it, will be returning. The core has not yet been transferred, but will be shortly after this announcement. Additionally, as many of you know, we have a very large percentage of the Nostalrius staff that has been part of Elysium. Their positions in the staff reach all possible areas such as Administration, Development, Game Masters and Quality Assurance. As of now we have a total of 16 Nostalrius team members (excluding Nostalrius’ administration whom will remain off of the project) and the number is growing. Together we will bring true Legacy servers to the private server community until Blizzard does!

Respecting core values

You may be wondering why Nostalrius chose Elysium to have the first priority with the software. This has largely been answered in the announcement from Nostalrius (http://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=44550). To re-hash their points, both of our servers have many of the same moral values:

  • Provide the players with the best server possible,

  • Project born purely from a love of the game,

  • An absolute refusal to profit from it.
On behalf of the Elysium team, we cannot hope to fully express our gratitude for this opportunity. We promise the Nostalrius team and the community, that we will not let you down.

Elysium’s next steps

We made a promise to the players on Elysium. That promise was a simple one: you will always have a home. We will not retract on that promise.

The Elysium database is being frozen while work on the Nostalrius core progresses. As of the time of this announcement, all characters on Elysium have been saved and frozen to be loaded into the new core once it's complete. Elysium, as a server, will remain up for your enjoyment until the new server is complete, but any changes to your character after this announcement will not carry over. Additionally, in regards to character names, Nostalrius will have the priority. This means that Elysium characters may be required to rename at the character screen when time comes. Furthermore, all items from Elysium will be downgraded to match the 1.9 Patch itemization of Nostalrius.

Expectations

First and foremost, we will hold a stress test for both PvP and PvE realms to help us gauge the amount of players to expect. We understand that players that did not experience Nostalrius will want a fresh start. Therefore, we will also hold a stress test for a fresh start. More information about this will be given in the next announcement. Depending on the community’s response, we will decide on how many realms will be open at re-launch using the Nostalrius’ core.

PvP, PvE & Fresh Start

You will be able to choose which realm (in case of multiple realms) that you will be able to transfer your character to and resume playing as if Nostalrius never left. You will not be able to transfer from PvP to PvE, and so Elysium characters will only be able to join a PvP realm and Nostalrius PvE characters will only join a PvE realm. Additionally, we wish to assure you that all personal information linked to accounts will be protected at all costs. Therefore, a very secure process will be implement to transfer your character data from Nostalrius to the new realms hosted by Elysium.

Timeline

The timeline that Nostalrius created will be followed and items will follow a progression through patches. We will provide a new timeline with the launch date announcement.

Let’s get this party started!

As for the dates of these servers coming to life, we cannot provide you an answer on that just yet. There is a lot of work that still needs to be done! But rest assured, the team will work tirelessly day and night until everything is ready.

The next announcement will be this coming weekend, as well as an AMA on Sunday November 13th on /r/wowservers at 9 PM server time. We're sure you will have many more questions for us, and we will try to answer as many of them as we can. The entire staff are super excited, and could not have asked for a better community to work with.

Together, we will shape our own Legacy.

It's over. It was over when Blizzard started to shut down the more popular private servers. The whole 'meet with X, Y, Z' was just a PR stunt. These guys are desperate neckbeards trying to remain relevant.

So at first it was Elysium which was the highest-pop server, then it was Nostalrius, then it was Kronos, now it's Kronos 2(everyone left Kronos magically) and now it's gonna be Elysium.

How is one expected to ever level to anything ever?
