I know the human mage level 10 quest is bugged, maybe that's what he's talking about. So far I've had minimal issues, mostly pathing-related and those are only mildly annoying. I've run into all of 3 bugged quests that couldn't be completed out of who knows how many, 2 of which I probably wouldn't have been able to solo anyway so it's not really a big loss. That is fairly incredible for a private server.
I believe the pathfinding is different enough that it makes certain frost mage AoE leveling spots impossible because the mobs can teleport to you and daze you.
AOE grinding is cheap anyway. Just quest like a real man.

All in all, it was all "we're aware of the issue and it is pending a fix sometime never" sort of thing. Really, I don't know why Valkyrie doesn't get the good PR it deserves. It just seems more competently made.
What do you want them to say? That they're aware of the issue and they're not planning on fixing it? Or that they weren't aware of the issue until you enlightened them? As someone playing on this server, I don't really care if the first 10 levels are rocky because mob HP is wrong or something (which it isn't). You only spend a few hours getting to level 10, while the last 20 levels take days. Like all private servers, there are only a handful of people working on scripting and they have to prioritize what they work on.
Questing is often shit.

Yeah it happened sometime in 2013, and the site never documented the outage. Both server and site just went down, disappeared, and the site two weeks later (or more) came up like nothing happened. No updates, nothing. By that time I was already on Valkyrie.

I'd still like to know when this alleged downtime happened, as I've been playing there quite actively for 3 years soon and I'm well aware of all the downtimes that happened from November 2011 DDoS attack, to July 2012 server ownership transfer to another DDoS attack at November 2012 when the server was moved to cloud service to mitigate DDoS after which it didn't happen. I can't remember any prolonged downtime for 2013, something I noted jokingly to the server's owner as we missed our annual traditional November issues. Besides those there have been one 2 days downtime in 2013 when transferring server to newer hardware and another this year which lasted 1 day for same reason.

I also remember the GM admitting the player DPS vs. monster health ratio at low levels was all wrong, when I compared how many shots it took in WoW to down various monsters at the low-leveling stage. He said they were mostly focusing on higher level fixes.

I wonder which GM did that because it sounds like outright lie, considering all the devs and server owner has always told people that no fix is too small or too large, no matter level and I've not noticed any issues with mob HP. Maybe you're mistaking Rebirth's mob HP as too high, when Valkyrie is possibly based on official Beastiary data of all mobs. Data that is "out"dated for leveling because the book was released after 2.3 nerf to vanilla leveling.

As for them concentrating only on high level stuff, I can quote you last patch notes which are at least equally fixing both end game and leveling content and a link to patch archive from last year where there is quite obvious focus to fixing game overall, not just the end-game as you seem to imply. I guess the data lies.

What do you want them to say? That they're aware of the issue and they're not planning on fixing it? Or that they weren't aware of the issue until you enlightened them? As someone playing on this server, I don't really care if the first 10 levels are rocky because mob HP is wrong or something (which it isn't). + Rebirth is completely free and do not accept donations in any form so unlike most private servers, they don't hire people to do the stuff like other realms do (and yet most of their quality is questionable at best). It's a passion project of the people.

Good job! Let us all support real MMOs.

Unfortunately I quit these games a long time ago. They simply take too much time, and I have never found one that was captivating enough. WoW is a good single-player game, but that is not what it is supposed to be.

The last good experience I had was Project 1999, leading a group of four or five people through Befallen. Now that was intense, and worth every second, even the late hours we spent into the night recovering our corpses, so that we would not lose all our items. It was almost surreal, playing something like that nowadays.

Just to answer the recurring question, the Rebirth downtime (which was only a couple days of recurring outages, not 2 weeks of continuous downtime) occurred due to a server issue with the increasing population in early March. You can see exactly when it happened in the population graph someone helpfully posted on page 6 or 7. The devs upgraded the server with the cloud hosting company and it's been humming along and increasing population back to, and beyond where it was before the issue.

Also, the website and forums are back up and functioning well. Forum features are being implemented so a few things don't work yet, but they will soon. Hope you decide to play on The Rebirth and enjoy!

I don't see a problem, he's just giving information. We let the guy advertising the FFXI server get away with that without the plant tag.

Some update on Rebirth population and the pending, unfinished patch notes for next patch! :o

Also on another note, ED confirmed turning into pay2win server, where you can buy gear that's half a tier behind from latest tier so as it stands, Rebirth even after 3 years remain the only true server with no donations, buyable gear or anything of the sort! This probably means that thanks to latest surge, only more and more population will surge in.

This has been addressed by the staff by obtaining new hardware that can support up to 5000 simultaneous players with ease, probably double of that.

Some news on Rebirth

After cease letter by Blizzard to Microsoft, Rebirth was forced to find a new hosting service. This resulted in 2 weeks downtime which is over now and server is back up. Website for now remains down as it apparently needs to be remade due to how it was built upon Azure cloud system before, so account creation is slightly more difficult. You can get new account by emailing muggle@therebirth.net, kyrai@therebirth.net or judgement@therebirth.net

It seems like this downtime had very little effect on population overall, as the server hit over 700 simultaneous players within two days of coming up and is only growing further with ED going down the P2W route with bad GM management. Besides website, best time to join is now!

Yeah, and Nostalrius is what Emerald Dream used to be. Population is everything, and this server has thousands of people on at any given time.

Kronos may have tighter adherence to peripheral details, but Nostalrius is where the fun is. Population is EVERYTHING. I just wish people would stick to just one server - there are clearly not many enough of us to spread over more than one vanilla server.

^ Yes, on 17th Oct :)

I plan to wait till November with starting though - give them time to iron out any glaring issues, lags and avoid the initial flood of new people.

Currently I'm playing on PvP server and it's a really great experience but the ganking gets insane over level 20 or so. Some people just like to watch the world burn, I guess.
