God, that UI clutter is atrocious. The new art style is painfully generic, and I miss the Australian accents after only 10 minutes of playtime. Not a good start for the game.

Fuckinghell, hearing attack after attacked voiced every time is annoying as hell.

I play games like this to get some peace and get away from having to listen to the missus talk bollocks. Within 2 min of listening to this I felt as if I'd been married to it for 20 years.

Wasn't the story finished in the first one? What's the point?
Isn't this like Final Fantasy, where this is a new world and plot?

there are audio sliders for various parts (field chatter, battle chatter, etc.) you can turn them down or off

Playing it, imo it's even better than Persona 5, probably best jrpg since final fantasy 7.... the combat is kind of grindy, i'll see how it is later on, but so far very good

The story is presented very very well, after 5 hours i just want MORE

tbh i didn't expect it to be THIS good, it went above my expectations

I'm curious about this one. I liked the old Xenosaga games back in the day, but was kinda lukewarm about Xenoblade Chronicles 3D on 3DS. In particular I thought the combat was quite blah. Is there anything in particular (besides the story which you mentioned) that makes Xenoblade 2 a must-have?

I don't know if it's a MUST have, but as someone who usually doesn't play many JRPGs (I only got it day 1 because I'm sort of obsessed with my Switch) I have to say I am very pleasantly surprised. There are systems galore here if you want to dive into them, the graphics look pretty great docked (they take a severe hit in handheld mode). But mostly, I am finding I actually am engaged in the story. While the battle audio is incredibly annoying, the actual voice acting in the cut-scenes and story moments is actually pretty great. I have zero experience with this series before, and I am really enjoying it. If you own a Switch, and you like RPGs (especially if you like JRPGs), then it would be silly to pass it up. It's the third major exclusive the system has produced this year, and it bodes well for the future.

"We will beat them with the power of friendship"
An actual combat quote from this game.

Also this has one of the worst English dub i have ever seen, actors are literally reading their lines with no emotion or just too much emotion.

If you play JRPGs for the story and dialogues you are doing it wrong.
Legend of heroes series disagrees with you.
Also having a bad story and voice acting can ruin good games.Especially jrpg which have a higher focus on cut scenes.

Imagine nocturne with shit story and voice acting,it would impact the game quality.

There are ofc exceptions like in every genre, but they are few and far between.

This genre is so plagued by anime cliche and fanservice that I had to learn to ignore everything that is not gameplay related to be able to appreciate it.

All I asked myself was what the hell that player was doing...

I'm getting the impression that your character's appearance doesn't change when equipping different armors. Hopefully there's a way for that main character to don a decent pair of pants.

I distinctly remember armor affecting your look in the first game. Of course it was like, tiers, so there were probably like 10 outfits in the game per character.

Hasn't the genre been trending this way in regards to story and art-style since the golden-age of the SNES?? These games are odd. They all have overly cute animal characters, all the women have anime-porn bodies, and repetitive combat (in regards to gameplay and sound effects). It's just something you have to put up with. Final Fantasy has been no different since at least VIII.

There's a free dlc that lets you use the japanese voices.

So... I started playing this, right after finishing first Xenoblade Chronicles. And, is it only me, or the game is worse than the first one on nearly all levels?
- very boring combat, forcing you to wait for all the arts to get enabled
- cast seems much worse / less interesting than the first game
- main protagonist is horrible
- no amazing music so far
- graphics suffer in handheld mode
- stupid decisions regarding gameplay quality: forcing you to chase after items that pop up from chests instead of just collecting them, annoying QTE for scavenging
- UI sucks
- overall, the game seems very... childish? I feel like it's directed to audience 5 years younger than the first Xenoblade

Am I missing something here? Does it get better? Played 6 hours so far, level 11.

nah it's better, it is very very slow to start though compared to XB1

You mean that the game as a whole is better than first Xenoblade?

If yes, in what ways? Story, characters, combat, music, something else? I will definitely give the game another chance, just want to set expectations properly - the first one raised the bar pretty high.
