You won't believe these games are not available on Steam/GOG

Yah yah. But those are old abandonware games. I thought of those too. Not sure they count.

They don't actually need to be good. That was just to catch your attention. Just "interesting to play".
Oh, the "CRPGs games" part was bait, too.

I don't mean abandonware like Drakkhen or Obitus. Although you're welcome to add everything you like to the list, of course! I mean titles like these (Some might not be pure RPGs):

Pool of Radiance (2001)

How have I not known about this?! ToEE is one of my favorite games of all time and this seems just like it.:greatjob:

No, it's clearly not as good as toEE with boring dungeons and a lot of repetitive encounters. It's said to be particularly bad but one of the reason is totally ridiculous bugs like uninstalling the game can sometimes remove more than the only game from your PC. Personally I think there are worse games (it's not as bad as Neverwinter Nights), but I wouldn't recommend you to try and play it just because of the bugs (invisible characters for example).
If you haven't yet you'd better give the old Gold Box games like the true Pool Of Radiance a try. They're available on GoG.

I have the non-premium version of Windows 7, which does not have xp mode.

I looked into it heavily a few years back, downloaded a vm, got Diablo runnng, and quit when I couldn't figure out a way to not make it run in windowed mode.

Dunno if the functionality of my OS has changed since then, but I'll probably end up just buying a windows xp machine eventually. Just so I can play some of the older games.

You might want to try again. Blizzard started patching D2/LOD back in March making the games Win 7/8/10 compatible. No compatibility modes required. They broke Glide wrappers, but that's apparently been sorted now. Current version is 1.14d. Get it here.

D1 as far as I know only has the ddraw psychedelic color palette problem, which can be fixed with a registry edit. I don't remember needing compat. modes or anything.

While the original DOS/Atari etc.. game is yes, abandonware, someone remade them and fully playable on modern OS, and with the Authors permission: http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/851

There is honestly no difference at all playing this remake one and the originals. Just FYI in case anyone want's to play this.

By all means, track down a physical copy of the game. Install it on C:/. It's the way it's meant to be played.

BRO THE QUICKEST WAY TO DESCRIBVE PRECURSORS IS THAT IT IS LIKE A SCIFI MORROWIND

MECHANICS ARENT GREAT AND UOU CAN BRAKE THE SHIT OUT OF IT BUT THERE IS EXPLORATION AND YOU CANT JOIN EVERY FACTION AND THERE IS A DEFINITE PROGRESSIIN OF DIFFICULTY

TRANSLATUIN IS SHIT AND STORY ENDS TOTALLY OUT OF NOWHERE BUT IT IS A PRETTY UNIQUE EXPERIIENSE

These gems also didn't make it to Steam (dunno why...looking at the 20$ category over there I'd guess they fit)

I could only find four games from this thread on the CRPG Book preview (Not counting DOS games). :argh: felipepepe

Wizards & Warriors p171
Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor p180 Valky play it
Prince of Qin p190
Knights of the Chalice p244

BTW is there something missing here (p191)?

Object Software would still a great single-player prequel called Seal of Evil (2004), with more magical elements and a story showcasing events that led to the creation of the Qin Empire, and World of Qin 2 (2005), a full-fledged MMO.

Because it is called crpg book and not every genre book.
