UPDATE 10 - Choices...

8OKKL.png

The team hasn't returned from its leave yet that a new sub is discovered.

ZoJtm.png

Our Barracuda, now armed with a mix of Ajax and DUP torpedo, sinks it without problems.

nufXg.png

No time to sleep for the aquanauts. As soon as the Triton is refueled, they embark again, ready for a new mission

BLpyG.png

Merk finds a shadow on the other side of the sub. No visual though so we don't know what we're up against.

u2FjI.png

Joka throws a pulser, and its explosion brings an aquatoid scream.

mmFq5.png

Unkillable Cat spots an alien.

dfvM7.png

KickAss snipes the aquatoid with an heavy explosive round.

9KvAj.png

Unkillable Cat finds another alien very close.

QEoe5.png

MacGond throws a grenade and the threat is gone.

OXybm.png

An alien is seen getting ready for a, ambush.

2WjHt.png

Unkillable Cat bravely steps forward and finds the alien far too close.

g3rUz.png

KickAss shoots at the alien with perfect precision.

ESBjO.png

An aquatoid springs from ambush and shoot down Unkillable Cat.
RIP Unkillable Cat :salute:, hopefully you still have eight more lives to go.

zaD4D.png

eklektyk retaliates with a well aimed rocket.

fXnXh.png

The sub is found at the other end of the map, looking quite blown up.

TpQBZ.png

Aliens move, and an explosion is heard.

B0xgW.png

Another one to fall before the power of the proximity mines.

xc0Cz.png

Warcupine storms the sub with a primed pulser in his hand. If he dies, he won't go alone. Thankfully, the alien is unarmed and he can approach without danger.

Xuo5i.png

A few steps, a few thermic stabs and the mission ends.

BDHNU.png

The sub is recovered. We earned some more Zrbite, our stocks are overflowing.

5KTMQ.png

It looks like we stunned an aquatoid medic somehow. That's good, it can help fill up entries in the UFOpaedia.

TWsg7.png

gVagh.png

Two new soldiers arrive to replace the latest losses, along with several ships full of scientists.

x2FFW.png

A very large sub is spotted by a Barracua on patrol.

E7I0X.png

While the sub is getting close, scientist figure out how to use Cannon ammo. Note the power of the beam, more than twice as effective as our current Gas Cannons.

xG6uO.png

The Barracuda gets close enough to get a visual on the very large alien sub. It's a dreadnought. We'll follow it, but at a safe distance.

0Zprj.png

The sub moves back and forth between areas in which we sunk subs. Scientists and technicians get ready to evacuate if it finally finds us.

OmGNf.png

Our interceptor runs out of fuel, and we lose track of the sub.

DPYTs.png

Its twin brother comes to visit at full speed. 4800, that's fast.

7nOnV.png

Twice as fast as our interceptor actually. There's no point trying to catch up to it.

sEgcQ.png

Once again, it sets off in a search pattern around our base.

HT3RG.png

And moves away, after failing to find us. All X-Com personnel get back to normal duty.

TtSKQ.png

Scientists learn the secrets of the Sonic Cannon. A very accurate, if very slow weapon. While kneeled, our good snipers can reach 100% accuracy with it.

SkYoQ.png

A small sub touches down near the China base.

K9I9q.png

And another one.

v5bW8.png

These subs won't be here for long. China's barracuda is sent guarding one, while the Triton slowly crawls to the location.

ttGcf.png

Scientists are making good progress, and finally finish their analysis of the Sonic Pistol.

5P9Ht.png

Since we're getting close to finishing the sonic line, I start research on the sonic rifle.

sJtO1.png

Both downed subs escape. The nearby barracuda manages to sink one. The Triton runs out of fuel halfway through and has to go back. That's the problem with using it for patrols.

nQQMb.png

Another potential target, once again very close to our China base.

JCVN4.png

A DUP head torpedo dispatches it and leaves nothing behind.

YEipk.png

Yet more subs are found near our base.

KT9ox.png

This time, it manages to escape.

8kx0Q.png

We can now use and manufacture Sonic Pistols.

4U8jy.png

Another very large ship. Aliens seem to have brought the big guns with them. Barracudas are sent to follow.

2M9us.png

A small sub is found nearby.

EEX6k.png

And a large one.

eHmGa.png

This is highly suspicious. All three are moving north near the Carribeans.

jmnTp.png

Our interceptor deals with the only threat it can reasonably beat, the small sub.

ZNtKY.png

And now, aquanauts have a difficult choice to make. A choice that the commander, back at the base, cannot make for them. They can :

A - Engage the downed small sub. Little risks, but small reward, and they can safely wait for daytime.

B - Engage one of large subs. Very risky, especially at night, as aliens carry powerful weaponry that can wipe our whole team in a single blast. The subs were discovered touched down so aquanauts have no idea how long they'll stay there.

C - Engage the dreadnought. Extremely dangerous. Packs of aliens carrying heavy weaponry and strong M.C. are to be expected. The ship just touched down so it's probably there for a few hours, enough to wait for daytime.

D - Go back to the base. It's obvious a colony is nearby, more opportunities at daytime will surely come along.

You have until tomorrow, 8 PM (GMT+1) to decide.

Bah! Useless little me. Sign me up again, you can use UCat to shorten the name.

As for the choice, C ---> B ----> A. And only in daylight.

Gee, a month is over and I am probably back into action

A - Engage the downed small sub. Little risks, but small reward, and they can safely wait for daytime.

Wait until dawn. If B is still stationary, go for it. Otherwise, go for A

What Uliminati said. B if dawn, A if not dawn.

Also, did you recruit me back into the human wave?

Only reason not to do C is if you want to wait for MC or Thermal Shok grenades, armor doesn't really change tactics much it's just a little nicer when you fuck everything up. That said maybe B just to avoid multiple mind controllers before we know who your psi goats are.

Night isn't especially more dangerous than day, it's just lame and too many clicks because you have to spam flares.

the choice is clear comrade commander

assault one of the large subs at dawn, or wait for another one to pass by

About 8 meters beneath sea level.
Remember, this much activity around there can mean two things. The aliens are launching a retaliatory mission and try to find your base and destroy it or (even more likely) there already is an alien base there somewhere or they are setting it up.

Wait for dawn and go for B if it is still there, otherwise go for A. Shoot down as many of the small subs down as you can btw and patrol the area extensively. A base mission is about to appear. :salute:

At this point, where you're still building up your squad and still awaiting implementation of new sonic tech weapons, you shouldn't take unnecessary risk.

Engage if you must, but taking on the light sub is the best move, I feel.

Strip whatever you can from Tali's husk, then get those engineers cracking on Heavy Sonics.

Oh I suspect there will be plenty of team building over the course of this game. And I don't mean those silly trust exercises either. :smug:
