Let's discover X-Com's fate in Superhuman TFTD - Update #52

Well, at least Pope took a couple of aliens with him to watery hell and, unlike some other decliners, he showed everybody how to live (and unavoidably die) like a real man.

BTW, an extraordinary council of cardinals at Rome has appointed a Pope Amole II after a short briefing, who is now ready to defend the honour of mother Earth in succession to his brave, but short-lived predecessor.

No, you're on the list. I think you'll make it in the next update, which I will start playing now.

It seems to me, that the recruitment list is quite long right now. Even so, I have a feeling that it won't take much time for any one recruit to die horribly for mother earth or to get reaped by a flock of tentacles.
Great fun so far :)

I think you'll make it in the next update

So people are dying. Not much of a surprise, but still :incline:

Phew. Many new recruits after the recent losses.

Ltyyp.png

A small sub is found, once again near our China base.

6SmJi.png

They already have a colony near the US, let's not let them settle anywhere else. The sub is shot down.

OHOE1.png

While the Triton is en-route to recover it, research complete on the Sonic Blast-Rifle.

8HgeF.png

It's a good weapon, but inferior to the Sonic Cannon, which can do the same number of shots per turn but at much better power and accuracy.

XfLor.png

Now that the scientists have mastered the alien assault weaponry, they're thinking about applying the technology to craft weapons.

KJdj7.png

They're encouraged to pursue in this endeavor. These Sonic Oscillators will help up bring down subs before they escape.

j0qEi.png

The Triton makes it to the crash site before the end of the month. One last mission before payday for the aquanauts.

ksPvc.png

Haba is the first out, an honor reserved for the veteran of the previous war. His skills have rusted, but his eyesight is still as good as ever. He spots a shadow to the northwest.

LTLL9.png

Black III throws a pulser at the location, and the scream reveals aquatoid presence.

c3h4E.png

Aquatoids indeed. That's good, a break from lobstermen and tasoths is welcome.

ju9WD.png

Haba discovers an alien very close to the previous one.

HSdh0.png

TripJack shoots it down with a well aimed sonic blast.

jkqfk.png

Aliens retaliate with severity. They shoot at root but they miss.

XWIAS.png

Haba, the old captain, is shot down.
RIP Haba :salute:, the 40 years between the wars have not helped your reflexes and you couldn't dodge the bullet.

UaEJZ.png

While looking for the root's assailant, Bee II is shot down.
RIP Bee II :salute:, no spotlight for you this time.

5Nrjl.png

One of the aliens is found. TripJack earns his second kill.

0eBst.png

eklektyk deals with another one to the west.

rjZbD.png

root finds an alien to the northwest, near one of its comrade's corpse.

HyG9N.png

Golgepapar Bir takes his first shot at a live target, and hits. The sonic blast tears the aquatoid apart.

tc5G0.png

The sub location is confirmed to the west.

H4NnC.png

Aliens are starting to run away in fear. But X-Com isn't known for its mercy.

T0uNf.png

ironyuri shoots the coward down.

xXGm3.png

Malak spots a suspicious shadow close to him.

kV5tn.png

eklektyk shoots at it and kill a hidden aquatoid.

ZKEgd.png

The LT is starting to become quite the soldier. Maximum strength, very high accuracy, good health and 70+ TUs.

XXCtn.png

An aquatoid starts to run in our field of view. It calmly takes it aim.

hsUNF.png

And shoots down Black III.
RIP Black III :salute:, I really wish I could make your incarnations survive longer

rkyzc.png

root finds the alien's location.

5NKYF.png

And ironyuri shoots it down.

AYT75.png

The aquanauts get in position to assault the sub remains. root opens a door and finds what is believed to be the last alien.

NnafM.png

A powerful drilling attack later, the ocean is calm once again.

1JJHi.png

The sub is recovered, not too damaged as well. Now that we have researched the major alien weapons we won't get much more points for alien artifacts.

5POJZ.png

Golgepapaz Bir is chosen for promotion. He did shoot down one alien, but both TripJack and ironyuri shot two.

6DYsI.png

We sell the recovered loot, and finally get rid of the samples of alien weapons we will never use.

hjso5.png

A medium touched down-sub is discovered near China base.

FqUCf.png

It doesn't stay for long, our Barracuda didn't even have time to make it there and assert the situation. The sub is far faster than our interceptor, we'll never know what they did here.

slDAs.png

The month ends. The committee is pleased but not many nations increased their funding. We barely break even, the monthly allocation is completely sucked up by scientist, technicians and aquanauts salaries, as well as sub rentals. We have four millions to hire more soldiers and scientists for Pacific base next month, but we can't spend irresponsibly anymore and have to think about the upkeep costs.

Oh, man, I can't wait for some silly silliness to happen to eklektyk :smug:

RIP Black III Salute, I really wish I could make your incarnations survive longer
Yeah, me too :( Thank god you still have that alien cloning aperture so you may create Black IV when needed.

About 8 meters beneath sea level.
Better start planning on getting rid of that base or on raiding their monthly supply ships. Oh, and if you get rid of the base prepare for some sweet alien payback to follow. :D

Turns pass and none of the controlled soldiers regain their senses. The Triton dusts off, leaving them behind. May you live a happy and productive life under alien leadership:
MacGond :salute:, our officer, who helped keep morale high when things looked grim, who provided such useful grenade support
Merkwürdigliebe II :salute:, a fine grenadier with a most promising start
Zdzisiu :salute:, you apparently joined X-Com just to meet some aliens, and you did.
Hoverpies :salute:, your career in X-Com was short, maybe the aliens will provide you with a better workplace.

:bravo:

I believe the point of this being a LP on a public forum is so that everyone can get to enjoy it, not for one man and his clones to take over and hog all the tentacle rape. :P

UPDATE 15 - Minor Setback

M6xP1.png

April starts with the hiring of many new soldiers and scientists for the Pacific-1 base.

3DJmV.png

Some low priority alien artifacts are transferred there.

w5f8g.png

Aliens launch an attack on a ship a couple of hours into the month.

yfldI.png

The Triton has just come back from the latest sub recovery and hasn't refueled yet, but is nearly done.

QqmMF.png

The site is rather far, hopefully the Triton will be slow enough to make the mission in daytime.

NmVRp.png

Wait..., what ? Halfway through the trip the the attacked ship, X-Com hears reports of another terror mission underway. Two in a single day, only a couple hours apart, that's a first.

5auuJ.png

But it's true, the nearby port of Vladivostok is under attack. Aliens are getting serious!
We only have one strike team so I chose to go for the ship attack, since we already saw a port mission earlier.

gr2iy.png

The Triton makes it there at dawn, with a little luck it'll be daytime.

Yei5K.png

By the time it arrives the port attack is finished. That's a heavy blow to X-Com, this mission cannot fail.

5g1Y3.png

Ship attacks are the absolute worst terror mission of TFTD. These missions have two parts, each of which contain a 4 level map filled with tricky corners and hidden aliens ready to shoot soldiers in the back. I already regret my choice of not going after the port attack instead, but we'll see how it goes.

zc1Cp.png

This is getting better and better. It's a cruise ship, the worst of the two kinds, the other being a freighter. The frighter has at least some wide open areas. The cruise ship is nothing but little rooms.

spYCB.png

An alien hidden in one of the little alcoves draws first blood by shooting down dextermorgan II.
RIP dextermorgan II :salute:, another poor soul lost in the alien war.

2pD9a.png

A pulser is thrown in the general location. No screaming is heard, that's not a good sign.

LvN7h.png

kazgar is targeted by heavy M.C. attacks. At least we're not up against Lobstermen, since they have no M.C. That leaves aquatoid & calcinites, or tasoths & bio-drones. The former would be tough, the latter will be a nightmare.

3IOVy.png

eklektyk and ironyuri shoot down walls to get a visual on the alien that killed dextermorgan.
It's a Tasoth alright. We remember them well from the colony missions, which were both so successful.

kzHsK.png

No less than five Vibro Blade attacks are necessary to bring the beast down. It's a blessing they don't have reaction fire to melee attacks.

DqrcY.png

ironyuri is the next target of Molecular Controllers on the alien side. He's armed with a Sonic Cannon, that's very dangerous.

jLtj1.png

Malak spots a Bio-Drone in the distance. These little floating brains are equivalent to compact Cyberdiscs. They have a deadly reaction fire, explode when killed, and take a lot of punishement before going down. Of note is the impossibility to tell its facing, which means getting in melee range is extremely hazardous.

oI35E.png

Golgepapar Bir hits the machine but it's not enough.

YNSm4.png

Sergiu64 stuns ironyuri before he goes under alien control of shoots his gun in a berserk rage.

AXDtf.png

Malak tries to reestablish visual contact on the Bio-Drone, and is shot down in the process.
RIP Malak :salute:, your family's luck is really terrible.

sKmf3.png

Roxorowicz gets ready to do what Malac was ordered to.

hr401.png

He manages to spot the alien without getting shot down.

Y9TpP.png

Golgepapar Bir shoots but misses, his cannon blast landing dangerously close to Roxorowicz.
TripJack demonstrates proper shooting, and the terror unit blows up as it dies.

35ABr.png

A Tasoth comes to investigate. TripJack takes it down in a single shot

F8THU.png

Roxorowicz climbs on the upper deck and finds an alien hiding behind our sub, waiting in ambush for someone to climb the western stairs.

cSHFu.png

Yeesh III goes around and deals with the threat with two thermic lance strikes.

rAKZ5.png

A civilian gets shot right before Roxorowicz's eyes.

N98TM.png

And the culprit runs away as if nothing happened.

tzJSN.png

Soldiers are sent to spot it but fail to discover where it went.

TOnF6.png

Golgepapaz Bir, who was among the two sent in the search as he fell victim to a series of M.C. attack, is shot down the following turn.
RIP Golgepapaz Bir :salute:, you wanted a pansy, you had a puppet.

dKSUE.png

kazgar is handed a grenade to deal with the aquatoid but fails his throw completely.

sIqPc.png

Luckily, the aquatoid is otherwise occupied shooting down civilians and doesn' take care of kazgar.
Opowiesciozerca shoots it down, after grabbing a dead Tasoth Sonic Cannon.

EJCjH.png

A Tasoth is discovered roaming on the western side.

vlrZS.png

And a Bio-Drone goes back and forth between the elevator and the door.

zhRNp.png

Roxorowicz kills the Tasoth, once again with a single shot. Sonic weapons are the way to go against these aliens.

O5i4S.png

Opowiesciozerca shoots at the Bio-Drone but fails to kill it. Slaughter II runs up in a suicide charge, drills it and ... nothing happens. Bio-Drones don't explode when killed in melee.

1SW2R.png

Yeesh III is shot down by a hidden alien below or on the stairs.
RIP Yeesh III :salute:, you had survived so much, it's a shock to everyone to see your death arrive.

c2OG2.png

root throws a pulser, but that's not enough. He can still see the moving shadow of an alien.

q4Y4Q.png

Next turn, the alien hasn't moved an inch, so root repeats his previous action. This time, a Tasoth's death cry is heard.

yUHhr.png

kazgar falls under molecular control. And will remain that way for the rest of the mission.
Good Bye kazgar :salute:, may you be happy with your new green and yellow friends

FGTYN.png

Slaughter finds a Tasoth guarding the corridor going south.

mZLuL.png

Sergiu64 grabs a dead Tasoth's sonic pistol, but he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

xCyJM.png

The following turn, the Tasoth teaches him how to shoot. Too bad the lesson won't be of any use now.
RIP Sergiu64 :salute:, sniper was not your calling and you demonstrated it right until the very end.

kNF0h.png

root throws a pulser in the general area of the Tasoth. It's not enough to kill, but maybe enough to wound it.

tD3BE.png

Wounded it must have been, for root narrowly dodges a sonic blast.

S4tVe.png

Another pulser is thrown after the alien retreated past the corner. It still isn't enough.

dCQlU.png

Though more grievously wounded, this time the Tasoth doesn't miss root.

vv4KL.png

But root survives, barely.

hX28q.png

However, he doesn't stay alive for long.
RIP root :salute:, you did some demolition as you wanted. Too bad the bomb wasn't powerful enough.

OE1rH.png

Slaughter is shot by the Tasoth but survives as well, with extreme wounds.

sys7T.png

That doesn't stop him from charging the alien and killing it with his melee weapon.
He can see something else in the distance, better investigate.

oH5c1.png

Opowiesciozerca goes down the elevator, and runs face to face with a Triscene.
These things are the heavy tanks of the aliens, with extremely high armor, lightning fast shooting and very good reactions. Our soldier didn't stand a chance in a straight up fight.
RIP Opowiesciozerca :salute:, you had shown some decent shooting skills, and were definitely up for a change of role.

7hHXj.png

Slaughter falls unconscious from his wounds.

fOsOe.png

TripJack throws a pulser in the general location of the dinosaur but misses wildly.

proeL.png

Slaughter succumbs to his fatal wounds. This mission has seen more than enough death, it's time to pull out.
RIP Slaughter II :salute:, your death will be the one too many for X-Com soldiers.

eCq4r.png

kazgar regains his senses for a brief moment, just enough to scare Roxorowicz and make him run further away from the sub.

zytXl.png

TripJack makes it to safety.

045gx.png

But he's eager to fight! He goes out in panic as Stereotypical Villain makes it into the sub.

w9nHF.png

Roxorowicz manages to board the ship before it flies away.

JojIb.png

With four survivors, and the stunned ironyuri, the Triton dusts off and leaves the cruise ship to the alien.

iPM4Y.png

Well, that didn't go well, at all.

LIW8q.png

Promotions overdue for the outstanding last mission performance of two soldiers are finally awarded.

NjFGg.png

It seems we have run out of sonic cannon ammo.

GuAeL.png

No matter, we have more than 500 units of Zrbite, we can spare thirty to make more clips.

wlEim.png

Our score doesn't look that great, -1500 points... We need at least -400 to have a month considered decent by the funding committee. That's 1100 points to get in the rest of April, that won't be easy. The only way I see it possible is by destroying the alien colony, but for that we'll need Disruptor Pulse Launchers. We also could camp outside the colony and raid supply ships, but we would need at least three of them intact.
