Also, why you not researching better subs to take down the meaner alien subs?
Is Update #35 not bad enough for you ?
I can't research new subs yet, but soon will. I needed the lobsterman navigator first.

As I said, some snipers (especially identified M.C. puppets) have been doing some scouting since I have too many of them.
Note : I have isolated update #35's bug to XComUtil 9.6's missing soldier recovery, so I decided to upgrade to the 9.7 beta. It recommends using DosBox 0.72 but I've had no trouble running the game with 0.74, are there any experience from fellow commanders on what to look out for ?

UPDATE 32 - Hunter Hunted
At the end of the last update, a Heavy Cruiser was just recovered, at a hefty cost.
Atlantic base's alien containment is getting crowded, so low priority aliens are sent off to Pacific base.
Scientists finish they current project.
The lobster man navigator revealed much about the aliens.
Two topics in particular arose interest.
Atlantic base starts researching Magnetic Navigation. Hopefully this will lead to new subs, faster and better than our current ones.
Pacific base science team hasn't been slacking, and provide a detailed report on Alien Cloning. X-Com has been using cloning a lot since the beginning of the war, so there's nothing new here.
Pacific base is started on the ominously titled research topic, The Ultimate Threat.
A small sub is discovered by our sonars.
No threat at all for our interceptor.
And it is decided to recover this one, since it's so close to our base.
Gillmen again. This should be fast and painless.
Storygafowski is handed a grenade, that he relays on target.
A gillman misses Darthowski as he explores the surroundings.
Edward R Murrow throws a grenade and kills the alien.
Proximity mines take care of another one.
Storygafowski finds another still inside the small ship.
Pope Amole shoots but misses.
Next turn, he shoots blindly, hits something, but doesn't kill.
And once more, still no kill.
Thrombone storms the sub from a crack and ends this particularly resistant gillman soldier, ending the mission.
Nothing in particular to say. A rather boring recovery.
Goglepapaz Iki is promoted though.
A new soldier arrives.
Magnetic Navigation is researched.
It opens a world of new research projects. We get started on transmission resolvers.
A medium sub is found.
But runs away before our interceptor can reach it.
No wait, it's back.
Still too fast to catch, we need faster interceptors.
This alien just doesn't know when to quit.
While pursuing, our Barracuda spots a sub in the bottom of the ocean.
Sub-58 also touches down in the same area. Atlantic Team is sent and arrives before it takes off.
More gillmen, is there no end to them ? This one is rather dangerous though.
Black IV misses his shot.
TripJack stuns it with a Thermal Shok.
BayBee finds a gillman to the east.
Black gets a grip and scores a kill.
Gondolin, our armored scout, finds a very dangerous alien close by.
eklektyk doesn't let rookies take their chances, and brings the alien down.
Another one with a Disruptor Pulse Launcher, do they all carry them ?
eklektyk adds another kill to his long tally.
Yeesh begins to storm the sub and finds a gillman standing directly in front of him.
A few quick stabs and the alien is no more.
BayBee ambushes an alien hiding in a ruin.
And earns a kill soon after.
Gondolin assists Yeesh in storming the sub, and throws a pulser on the upper level. It kills at least one alien.
Gondolin is the first to go up, and what he sees isn't reassuring. Hopefully this one isn't suicidal.
It's not, and flees the following alien turn. Gondolin begins to drill the unarmed aliens lurking nearby.
He then opens a door and finds two rather dangerous targets. Yeesh will go around and take them from behind.
Or not, as a M.C. reading reveals the only armed alien is out of TUs. Gondolin charges and finds another alien, also unarmed.
He continues his killing spree, but can only kill one. The other two aliens flee during their turn.
Gondolin pursues and finds one.
BayBee and TripJack explore the surrounding, and stumble upon a hidden gillman.
The Thermal Shok fails to stun it, so Banelion throws a pulser.
Gondolin continues murdering all the aliens in the sub.
While scouts explore the last corner of the map. There's a lone sniper there.
eklektyk shoots it down before it can inflict any damage.
lightbane explores more of the sub and finds an alien looking away.
It panics, but is standing on the elevator, and lobbing a grenade up is harder than it seems.
Finally lightbane finds the right spot. The gillman blows up, ending the mission.
This was relatively easy, and earned us some good loot. Soon, we'll be able to use our massive stocks of Zrbite with new flying subs, and extend our detection network with Transmission Resolvers.
