Lawl, TFTD universe hates GarfunkeL, like srsly.

Voting B. Its not like the aliens have a chance to win. Might as well add funny fluff moments.

I've always wondered about who flew the interceptor craft used in the X-COM games. I find it highly unlikely that the X-COM agents piloted them, so there has to be a pilot of sorts. And at the very least he should be able to tell his mates if there's something DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE SUB.

Ask and you shall receive. I apologize for the slight delay, we should be back to the usual schedule from now on.

First things first, the results of the M.C. poll :

A - 2
B - 19
C - 1
D - 1

Most codexers seem to want a minimum cap for M.C. lower than 100, so we'll go with my initial plan which is to use soldiers with 95+ M.C. Strength. For now, that means lightbane and Banelion.

----------------------------------------

UPDATE 39 - Second Chance

When we left off, M.C. had just shown its first combat potential.

C2jnG.png

Two recruits especially stood out during testing. Lightbane MKIV showed an exceptional natural ability, even with somewhat low skill.

QwVB5.png

Banelion, on his end, scored perfectly and his skill is progressing at the fastest rate possible. Both soldiers are expected to deploy M.C. technology in their next mission.

rFOTn.png

But that would have to wait, as the beginning of August brings terror. Aliens, confident with their last success, attempt to activate another ancient artifact.

4Twaq.png

Pacific Team is eager for revenge, and the site is very close to them. Besides, it's their turn. While en route, a retaliation ship is found.

5zOOQ.png

Pacific base's Manta destroys it.

1RqWP.png

Looks like this is going to be a night mission.

dw7fy.png

Triton-3 touches down near the area in pitch black waters.

FTc7O.png

Things start off rather well, with no Thermal Shok in the Triton right at the start. While scouting, the Displacer is shot in the back.

ztbiA.png

Merkwürdigson ends the life of the aquatoid ambusher.

nyuvX.png

The Displacer hovers up and spots an unit behind the Triton. A couple shots and the Tasoth is dead.

lPPm8.png

This alien launched a Thermal Shok at our tank. It had no effect.

GGADW.png

The following turn, aliens are discovered and Undead Phoenix II shoots one.

csvwD.png

While a pulser kills another.

1vqT5.png

Merkwürdigson falls under alien control. He was carrying the M.C. Reader, now we can't check if aliens have enough TUs to fire reaction shots.

HKroY.png

The Displacer scouts the area while soldiers throw flares all around to light up the way. A Tasoth is found to the east.

MkmRA.png

Geoffrey Chaucer grabs a Disruptor Pulser Launcher and plots a course, killing the alien on the spot.

z2yt5.png

The Displacer scouts ahead a little further and discovers that the building just east of the Triton contains the elevator to the next part.
It is guarded by a Hallucinoid, and a first volley fails to kill it.

0LzAA.png

The second time, the Displacer aims correctly and the path is clear.

ZJOq2.png

Soldiers now go around the cleared north side and proceed to the elevator, while suffering from many M.C. attempts. Latajoncy first panics.

plyXC.png

Then falls under alien control.

xftPK.png

It takes time but eventually all soldiers under our control make it to the elevator. Latajoncy is also slowly led to the exit, when aliens fail to control him. Merkwürdigson succumbs on the first attempt every turn and wanders around the Triton.

StulG.png

Finally, our soldiers are in position. Only Merkwürdigson is missing, but there's nothing we can do for him apart from killing all the aliens.

oB5mV.png

Which we won't do, since we need as many live soldiers as possible for the next part. The team decides to abandon Merkwürdigson on the surface.

pgKBv.png

The objective is to destroy the synomium device, but it will be heavily guarded.

7sqzs.png

Well well, look who's back. Merkwürdigson decided to join us after all.
Apparently it's a bug related to XComUtil. The log shows he has been forcefully recovered.
I thought 9.7 removed this feature but apparently it wasn't done entirely.

8lBlK.png

The first thing he does is panic.

lVQbJ.png

But nevertheless, he's among us. Too bad he got rid of all his equipment, the M.C. reader would have been very useful.

QsLHg.png

Our tank spots the first target, a Tasoth.

moqlB.png

To the north is the control room leading to the Synomium Device. We're in luck, it's right next to the elevators.

6chHd.png

Geoffrey Chaucer starts in view of an aquatoid, but is too overloaded to fire. He retreats to the elevator instead.

BzkXQ.png

The Displacer Cannon is used to deal with the western Tasoth.

aBONj.png

While Mal II goes down and shoots the aquatoid.

w1MHZ.png

The control room is a difficult place to assault. There are little alcoves all around containing aliens ready to shoot us.

DKZLi.png

mediocrepoet proceeds to clear one of them with a Disruptor Torpedo.

DK2Kd.png

The blast kills a Tentaculat.

zQsBJ.png

But there are more waiting for us.

UFAUm.png

Many more.

TyhHv.png

At least four...

FuqmJ.png

A fifth one springs from the corner and tries to assault our Tank.

KmIwc.png

While the Displacer is immune to zombification, it still takes some damage from the bites.

K5P0n.png

A point blank shot is enough to kill the floating brain.

lxHSm.png

Undead Phoenix finds a Tasoth near the second elevator.

uaHJN.png

The following alien turn, our Displacer is shot.

J9chA.png

A second time.

7uOj3.png

And a third...

fn1Zw.png

Undead Phoenix is also shot.

XLMwG.png

And falls under alien control.

OXXvp.png

Our tank barely survived the onslaught, with 12 health remaining. We can't use it to bait Tentaculats anymore...

WjMJF.png

Latajoncy grabs his drill and advances to find the hidden shooters. He stops as he sees what lies ahead : three heavily armed Tasoths.

Latajoncy... [sees] three heavily armed Tasoths.

Hey guys, I'll just stay back here and guard the elevator with the rockets and stuff. I got your back.

We've underestimated X-Com before..let's not get ahead of ourselves, a torpedo would kill all three...and an aquanaut will die an honorable death.

Time to employ human wave tactics. I nominate Merk with a primed grenade as the first one.

UPDATE 40 - Assault

At the end of the last update, Pacific team had just begun the assault on the second part of an artifact site.

yh1qO.png

mediocrepoet goes down the elevator and programs a torpedo trajectory. The wall should protect him from the blast.

X0tIP.png

No mishap happen during the missile's travel, and it blows up on the designated target.

efJeX.png

Golgepapaz Üç shoots down one Tasoth from the east.

L9WY3.png

And the Displacer discharges its cannon on the surviving Tasoths. Two of them survived the blast, including the one at ground zero.

lCtUI.png

At least one blast finds a target.

p9ZTV.png

During the alien turn, Undead Phoenix II is shot in the back by a Tasoth just as he escapes alien control.

RIP Undead Phoenix II :salute:, your time serving the aliens has been short.

8BgTe.png

chzr II explores the northern room for the hidden sniper, and finds two Tasoths.

59B1H.png

His drill isn't powerful enough to deal with both Tasoths. It manages to stun one and lightly wound another though.

FqCnK.png

Latajoncy is feeling more confident about his odds now. The surviving Tasoth of the group has dropped his guns in panic. He charges and drills the wounded alien one time, but that's not enough to kill it.

3n8rn.png

chzr II is shot on the following alien turn by two sonic cannon blast to the side. The armor isn't much help against such an attack, and the lieutenant falls down.

RIP chzr II :salute:, you were the last member of Atlantic team forcibly sent to Pacific.

VZucM.png

But things aren't over yet. Tentaculats are on the move!

y9kpi.png

One of them bites Latajoncy and the soldier is implanted with a larva and turned into a zombie.

RIP Latajoncy Pjes :salute:, we won't forget your brave attempt.

mPsSz.png

Another Tentaculat springs from the northern room near the second elevator and bites one unarmored soldier. The victim's name is Geoffrey Chaucer.

RIP Geoffrey Chaucer :salute:, your interesting theories will have to be tested by another person.

JPuG8.png

The Displacer fires a reaction shot at Latajoncy's zombie, and hits! This is bad, a Tentaculat springs from it and moves closer.

6e0jc.png

The panicked and wounded Tasoth decides to help and does more harm than good. It throws a pulser but it hits the wall and blows up, killing the lizardman and one Tentaculat.

N60on.png

Mal II grabs a drill and goes down the elevator to deal with Geoffrey's zombie. The Tentaculat who bit him is still there though.

Jukom.png

He has enough TUs to drill it to death and pop open Geoffrey's corpse, revealing the Tentaculat inside.

amTLg.png

Generally Fatal shoots at it from point blank range, but it survives !

XWTDh.png

Thankfully, Merkwürdigson has regained some senses, and goes down to finish the alien for good.

RQM0e.png

The Displacer tries to hit the Tentaculat left on the west side, but fails all three shots.

F8qJU.png

Pope Amole also misses...

nQ7YA.png

We're not going anywhere in trying to defend our position, time to go on the offensive. mediocrepoet plots a course to destroy any Tentaculat waiting in the control room elevator.

and67.png

Looks like they all went out, as the explosion kills nothing.

0M3cE.png

Latajoncy's Tentaculat inherited his bravery, as it runs away from our soldiers instead of attacking.

ZubsH.png

A nearby Tasoth soldier panics too.

PA3Xa.png

Merkwürdigson is targeted by M.C. but manages to resist.

N9D1M.png

He pursues come our turn, but is shot on the side by the alien who was waiting in ambush. His revenge is swift as he drill it to death.

nOgFL.png

Mal grabs chzr II's medkit and heals the arm of our last officer.

HsgTr.png

Pope Amole kneels and snipes the panicked Tasoth from earlier.

UBYwK.png

Meanwhile, the Displacer is sent to the control room elevator. On the way, it spots an aquatoid.

RHraK.png

It doesn't waste any time trying to shoot it, and instead makes it to the elevator and blocks the path for anything trying to come down or up.

8HzVh.png

Merkwürdigson soon falls back under alien control.

HbJd0.png

And a Tentaculat pursues our tank.

2RMGL.png

The Displacer miraculously isn't damaged by the multiple bites, and shoots the alien at point blank range.

dzwg3.png

Then goes up two floors to find the control room, eerily empty save for the synomium device.

SwXBB.png

The tank gets closer as the severe damage hampers its accuracy. It then fires a sonic blast at the device, which blows up in a small explosion.

QH5jl.png

Time to pack up and go home.

7q0UV.png

The turn following the destruction of the synomium device is extremely calm. Did aliens lose their M.C. link ?

ekFoY.png

As its going down the elevator, our Displacer finds two aquatoids staring at the wall. Or they could be controlling Merkwürdigson, who is in this general direction.

bYqvw.png

At this range, the Displacer cannot miss. It kills the first.

fYhng.png

Then the second.

09ibl.png

However, there are still some aliens left to control Merkwürdigson.

XeVjc.png

We suffered heavy losses, and our tank is too damaged to take another hit.

61U3B.png

Hunting down more aliens could save Merk, but we could lose M.C. strong aquanauts to save a puppet.

baxmk.png

The team decides to go out and leave Merk in the now permanently dormant M.C. facility.

RIP Merkwürdigson :salute:, your last minute comeback probably saved Mal II's and Generally Fatal's lives.

9Jr7O.png

Victory is ours, but at a serious cost. We lost four of the Pacific team officers, leaving only Warcupine.

I3DX4.png

Promotions are awarded immediately to fill up the open spots. Pacific team grabs a few but has less and less officers.

UHIOm.png

We also lost all the equipment from the Triton we couldn't carry to the second level. It mostly included flares and tazers.

5eLVF.png

But also some not so easily replaceable equipment, including an expensive M.C. Reader. Gauss Cannon factories are halted while the equipment is produced.

rR7Zk.png

And five more soldiers are demanded from the recruitment center. It was bloody, but Pacific team had its revenge.

Hoorah, this means armor for me. Also the MC puppet is dead and gone, good riddance. My odds of survival increase by the update.
