UPDATE 43 - Abduction

At the end of the previous update, Atlantic team was descending into the depths of an alien colony.

E2CrP.png

We're in luck, aRyan started in view of the control center right from the start.

GuEHl.png

We could lob a pulser down there and be done with it, but we have another objective : capture a lobsterman commander alive.

aV9hB.png

aRyan blows up the railings to allow a swift descent in the heart of the control room.

m4GcL.png

A lobsterman comes investigate, and thankfully doesn't see our soldiers.

Ha5G3.png

TripJack and Banelion started on the far end of the map. While making it back to the main elevator, TripJack is shot by a Thermal Shok Bomb.

oMihB.png

aRyan and Shepard take the long way around and finally enter the command center. They immediately spots a lobsterman.

lc8Yy.png

It's a Commander. Not very good at fighting, especially as it's unarmed.

YSyeb.png

But rather resistant to Thermal Tazers. We'll need one more turn to bag it.

d9oIx.png

Meanwhile, Banelion silently sneaks towards the elevators, avoiding contact with lobsterman as best he can.

HXmO6.png

Some corridors are too dangerous, so he has to take some detours.

FK03l.png

Shepard finishes stunning a commander, and spots another lobsterman in the corner. It's another commander !

2DnYB.png

aRyan stuns it and grabs both live aliens. As he retreats to the elevators, Shepard shoots at the Synomium device and destroys it.

FHRlJ.png

Both objectives are fulfilled. Now we just need to have aRyan make it back to the elevator and we can go home.

0evfp.png

The trip back is uneventful, not even an alien contact. Banelion also managed to join our team.

EiCTu.png

One last look at the alien confirms their status. Both alive and good.

iN7Pf.png

TripJack's unconscious body still lays on the colony floor, too far to be fetched without risking another soldier life and jeopardizing the mission.

hlHHV.png

It's a sad day for Atlantic team, but the commander is abandonned on the alien colony.

RIP TripJack :salute:, hopefully your death will be swift when you wake up.

9WAM8.png

The mission is successful, on both the capture of a commander and the destruction of the colony.

vj6tU.png

Banelion jumps at the opportunity to grab a commander rank.

NM311.png

And we lost some flares and tazers, as usual.

vv56W.png

Interrogations begin right away. Soon we will know all we need to end the aliens for good.

RYLT9.png

Meanwhile, subs are shot down as usual.

ad278.png

In preparation of difficult missions, a batch of twenty Magnetic Ion Armors is ordered.

TkVd1.png

Aliens try to retaliate.

8YrRI.png

But their sub is shot down.

UbweU.png

The interrogation of the lobsterman commander reveals two very promising topics.

5YR0j.png

Atlantic-1 is started on the design of a massive new sub.

nYOVK.png

This time, aliens aren't kidding around.

Urn3F.png

Maybe investing in some better sonars for their dreadnoughts would be a good idea.

bFLbW.png

Aquatoids on an alien probe mission ? That means more medics !

dcdMi.png

The sub is shot down first, then Atlantic team is sent to recover it. Banelion and lightbane still need to practice their M.C. skills.

RTjXR.png

Meanwhile, aliens keep trying to find us.

5wmh8.png

But they don't.

RCmFM.png

2AYn2.png

Two soldiers arrive in Atlantic-1. Good soldiers, but they're no TripJack.

nErqJ.png

More subs looking for our bases.

L69Po.png

Before it is shot down, Triton-1 finally makes it to the aquatoid crash site.

PfcdD.png

First alien spotted in unarmed. A medic already ?

FmAq3.png

Yes, a medic.

A9fAP.png

Banelion has made some good progress. It takes two attempts, but he assumes control of the alien.

O7D2Z.png

While leading it back to the Triton, it spots one of its brethren.

gJKQU.png

The aliens aren't fooled and shoot down the suspicious medic before he can make it.

qbh0O.png

aRyan shoots one of the soldiers down.

PDWOe.png

And pulsers are thrown to deal with other soldiers revealed by the Displacer.

t2Uj4.png

Proximity mines deal with on alien from the sub.

QAhLb.png

And Oscar stuns an alien medic.

GlzX9.png

eklektyk stuns another one, and the mission ends.

Kp2YP.png

A flawless operation.

LBh5K.png

And some promotions.

Hm, abandoning Tripjack there seemed a little dum.

It might seem to be dumb, but if you take a closer look - it was all planned. Banelion hit the glass celing. He could not get a promotion - and he should. Because of that - he took control of every one aquanaut and made them just forget about Tripjack.

lawnmower-man.png

A brilian, flawles plan.
Succesful, as well.

I never made it that far in any of the x-com games - I'm quite thrilled to see, what's next.

Nice. The final assault is coming soon, huh? See if you can put my fifth clone in for the mission to the alien home city. Let him pay back the xenos for all of the previous incarnation's deaths, preferably with a disruptor pulse launcher. Though serving as meatshield and grenade smother-er is no less noble a role to play.

Here, obviously
The sacrifice was probably worth it.

Worst case scenario is that a tentaculat would have ambushed your waiting troops and started a wild spawnfest. That or you commanders could have revived and done something.

I'm also excited to see the end so near!

:salute: :salute: for the mission. Losing the commander was a necessary sacrifice. Hopefully, soon Lightbane Mk IV will master his psychic potential and he'll use it to start mass mind-control the xenos.

Psychics become too prominent, they will have to be dealt with. Preferably in the back with sonic bursts.

So where are those newspapers? If any mission has ever needed a public coverage, it would be this one, with the important capture, important abandonment and stuff.

UPDATE 44 - Betrayal

When we finished up last time, Atlantic team had just captured two more medics.

qoJif.png

There was also the matter of some lobsters looking for us. It's dealt with.

5Svtp.png

Another dreadnought. Without scouts to report our location, it just goes around and eventually gives up.

eccCz.png

Speaking of scouts, here's another one.

FYaTJ.png

Not anymore.

fIdGN.png

Ahah ! Is our new sub ready ?

7LdAE.png

No, but Disruptor technology is now adapted to a large missile launcher array.

c03Dc.png

More scouts.

t9nO0.png

Less scouts.

lRbqy.png

Crustaceans think they'll have better luck.

x1KOS.png

They don't.

d3Iqk.png

More research ! Excellent.

FtCUP.png

Still not what we wanted. It's just another random piece of alien technology.

7ZvdF.png

Alien Infiltration eh ?

gMNMD.png

Not gonna happen.

WahhI.png

And the parade of scouts resumes once again.

TMSSi.png

We deal with it in the usual fashion.

QfI02.png

Another useless dreadnought looking for our bases.

okUBi.png

Research finishes at last.

Uvkhv.png

The interrogation of a squad leader revealed some minor details about alien missions.

66rDt.png

Another dreadnought that will have to give up in a few hours.

qALch.png

Two of them...

NYDQ0.png

Earth's resources are for X-Com's use only.

D5Ayu.png

We make sure the aliens get the memo.

Pyrpk.png

Once again, a scout appears. These aliens sure have a lot of subs.

USyyp.png

They have one less now.

MmVLq.png

And August is over. Everyone is happy with our excellent progress.
Everyone, except USA. This country's leaders apparently think the aliens have a better chance at winning the war than X-Com does.
We'll have to install some P.W.T. missiles in bases near its coasts to purge the alien infestation someday.

CnTCL.png

M.C. training in Atlantic-1 is coming along nicely. Banelion shows some excellent progress, while lightbane is still lagging behind.

ZBey5.png

Some powerful minds are revealed in Pacific base.

PzxYD.png

Golgepapaz Üç, Mal II, toastboy spotter and Slaughter IV will be issued M.C. Disruptors right away.

Can I ask for a Pope to be fitted with a disruptor? Yeah, I know he's below the norm, but not that hugely, just 3 points, besides, evangelizing aliens seems like his kind of job. And it's not like he has any real talent in combat anyway.
