Not much action, though a bit further than Sheek's LP. Annie was pretty busy in the monster takedown department. I'll make another run at getting further in that starter dungeon later in the week. No journal or commentary since I can't really hope to make something that would be read or enjoyed by Codexers. The videos will have to suffice.

YES, GIVE ANNIEMAL THE BEST EQUIPMENT! I SMASH MONSTERS FOR YOU GOOD.

List the character stats! Also, why you put certain character on Parry and not attack? Do they have too low HP to risk them getting killed by a stray hit?

I'm surprised you hopped into the dungeon right away - I dunno if its my modern sensibilities, but when I started playing again I immediately started fussing around and grinding. You'll get nice xp that way, but yeah - good items are pretty much just found in dungeons.

Keep it up!

I was assigned #3 in share allocation? Yay me! :)

Heh. Seems the pansy elven wizard has been designated 'party mule'. Three robes, two shields and two clubs. Come closer, evil monsters, I dare ya!
Feels a bit Nobby'ish..

[EDIT]
Ah. So I completely misunderstood that screen. I thought you allocated who got part of their share first, implying that a lower number was better. Silly me.

Thanks for the reply! In regard to the Thief and Wizard not attacking, the attack scores for them are a bit low to reliably hit. If you attack, you open yourself to more damage in return versus a parry. Once the Thief gets up in levels, he can help out for monsters on any rank without worries. Your fighters take the brunt of the work for a while, but once you advance the spellcasters they can help out more on offense. Doing the dungeon approach may work for a bit, and it's far quicker than roaming around looking for fights.

P.S. - Shares mean how much you get in terms of experience and money. Wizards need the most, thus three shares. Fighters and thieves don't need so much experience.

I didnt watch the whole thing, but what I saw had Luigi kicking the most ass which is appropriate.

HE KNOWS MUY THAI KICKBOXING. Of course he will beat up the monsters better.

And he uses his Ki for those powerful magical attacks too.

GO LUIGI GO!

I went thru most of that first dungeon with the group. I had to retreat at one point due to several Rangers attacking my party in the dungeon. That's NOT a good encounter for first level adventurers. I'll check the money and experience from the other runs, but I think I have enough for some training. I should have a few new videos tomorrow.

Those rangers are bastardfaces at early levels. That's why I skipped around in the wilderness murdering bees and ants for a while until I got a bit more kerbuffed.

Son of a BITCH do you get shitty MP at higher levels, though. It really doesn't advance like it should.

GOD I WANT TO REMAKE THIS GAME NYAAAAAARGLE

I'll probably skip the second dungeon and head straight for Woodville. That place has a lot of good stuff, although some encounters can be pretty much over a party's head. It's a risk, but this group has to get some decent gear if they are to have much of a chance to advance. The approach you mentioned of looking for monsters to get experience takes a bit longer in game time, although for me having to run back and rest at an inn chops off two weeks. Once our group has a few levels advanced, we should be able to go longer and kill tougher opponents.

To answer the recent question, no resting is possible in dungeons although you can save the state(but no game saves allowed except at a town).

P.S. - Yeah the magic point limit is a bit of a hassle, but a number of times it's not a huge deal. It is inconvenient though to run out of spell points, especially for healers who are VERY important to other party members.

I found that training is pretty random for hit point increases, so I'll skip recording that part. I made a quickie dungeon raid to get just enough experience for the Monk to get spell 54 - Transportation! Teleportation to towns is a simple matter. All aboard! I'll probably do a dry run to find which towns are worth heading to(maybe none since I used the game reset function before even starting).

P.S. - The Monk and Wizard can be trained to level 3 with no problems, but we will have a money problem if anyone else tries to train past level 2. Training gets expensive, and we've not found much gold to supply the group.

Five new videos, with the last two still processing on the upload. I can't remember which one I was forced to pull the Brave Sir Robin running away on. As soon as all of them are live, I'll post the individual links.

I've played less than an hour, and the group will be more advanced before they set out on the next videos. Everyone should be able to train to level 3, but the gold situation needs to get remedied. Our Wizard and Monk will advance to level 3 since the training for them is cheap. I'll check other towns, but it looks like town #11 is the place to get midrange weapons. Considering the lowly weapons we have, doing a teleportation to the town and then heading for other dungeons is probably a good idea. I could try Annie's method of grinding, but for level 2-3 adventurers I feel we can afford to take some risk.

I always had problems with the cost of training. If you're not aware, its based on Charisma (as is the cost of spells, but that's mostly negligible). The problem is that you can gain levels so quickly at lower level, but at the same time, you find less gold at that stage. Eventually, you'll get caught up. Also, shop around a bit at the different towns for training. As I recall, some towns are cheaper than others. For expensive characters, the difference can be a few thousand gold.

If you're going to grind, you may just want to reset one of the dungeons, and go through it again. Running around in the wilderness takes a lot of time, and eventually, your characters can die of old age. This is most likely with the 'Random' character races. I can't remember if age is kept or reset when transferring characters from one game to the next, but if you plan on transferring them, you may want to keep it in mind.

I've not trained everyone yet, but have just two characters to go. I'll probably find the best town for decent weapons, and do a raid on the second dungeon. I think we'll have adequate experience and skills to go thru it much more than those 'hit and run' raids on the first dungeon. After doing dungeon #2, it's off to Woodville for the next dungeon. We should be able to get quite a variety of encounters and hopefully items there.

Ah, good point with the old age. I actually only did real grinding before the first dungeon - the rest of the time it was just exploring that got me mad money. Dungeons are the best moneymakers, however, I do verily agree with that.

Everyone is trained up to level 2 at minimum now. The Wizard and Monk made level 3, and training for them is cheap due to Flux's comment about Charisma. I'll check the available spells for the classes, but I don't expect to buy much since a number of the spells are wastes of money. There are good ones like Fireflash, Transportation, and the two mass damage variant spells. Healing and Confusion round out the rest of the needs. I'd buy Vision, but there does not seem to be an interface to cast spells outside of combat.

Hit Enter on the OL Map. That should bring up the Cast Spell option.

Vision is only meh, though - doesn't reveal the whole map, just like ... I think a 4x4 section or something piddly like that. Made the Annie MAD.

Also the end dungeon is a pain like you wouldn't believe. LIKE YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE.

Thanks for all the tips so far! Six new videos of the group getting some action going on that second dungeon. Two raids with quite a bit of experience and decent money(and a mostly completed dungeon). I'll check the training situation some time next week.

mah boi, you could put some music over the playtrough videos, its nice that you go for the genuine feel with the bleak silence of the originals, but some 70's disco music or Daggerfall midi music would make it even more epic.

keep on truckin' btw, good videos and finally im joining the fray instead of being that annoying sprite hovering in the background going "Listen! hey You! listen!" and whatnot. :)

I believe the music has to be approximately the time that it takes to encode. I might experiment on the videos I've done, but it seemed to be mostly a miss to encode complete tracks. I did change my mind about heading for town #11 since there were just pitchforks there for weapons, and the cost was a bit steep.
