Lets Play Avernum 4!

Hey I was drunk and bored and I've lurked here for a while so I decided to do a LP of a random game.

So. Avernum 4. LETS DO THIS SHIT



K. Lets start a new game before I'm sober and this becomes shit.

This is Skyway, our human berserker. He'll be our main fighter.

These are the traits I give him. As you can see, there are positive and negetive ones and they give exp bonuses and penalties.

Jasede is our rouge. Hes really only good for shooting things and picking locks.

Moar traits.

Kingcomrade will be healing and blessing us. He is blue.

Andharia is our spellcannon. I didn't give him or kingcomrade any traits because this is my lp biotch.

Overview of the party.

The plot thickens.

We are in a room. Im hungry so I'll continue this later.

Noooo why 4... the worst one it is.

Jasede is a "rouge"?

Yes Jasede is a rouge. Deal with it. And I picked 4 because I just chose one at random.

UPDATE TIME


The party steps out into the cavern and finds some phat loot.
Acually it's pretty shitty. We'll find better stuff later on.


Most of the stuff goes to Skyway and Jasede since they'll be at the front line. Kingcomrade and Andharia get sloppy seconds.

See that green thing in the corner? Thats a goblin. We'll be fighting alot of those, so get used to it.

We go into turn-based mode and get ready to pound on that bitch.

Jasede fails completely and misses. Fortunatly, Skyway goes nerd rage or something on that goblin's ass and one-hits it.

We go through the gate and find a ladyboy. Lets talk to him/her.

This is the dialoge system. Pretty simple. I'm sure you've seen it before.
Of course, we go for the dick option.

I'll believe it when I see it, sugar.

We send her on her way and check the area to see if there's anything intresting before moving on.

There was a HP potion and 2 bars of iron(which we can sell). We go upstairs.

We move along to talk to the guy at the desk.


I forgot to take a picture of the task he wanted me do but I think it was aomething about a goblin cave. Anyway he dosen't say anything else thats important besides that his grandfather was a raging homosexual so we move on.

Remember this. It will be important later on but we cant use it right now.

We find a shop. Time to spend our hard earned gold.

I buy a tin helmet for Skyway and a bronze longsword and leather helmet for Jasede.

We also sell the 2 iron bars for some coins.

The commander of this fort left us some goods in the storeroom so we check it out.

There is a bow for Jasede in here which will be very useful. Also bows don't need ammo in this game[/decline]

A shot in the center of the outpost.

She sells spells and is a prostitute. I think.

"Unsually friendly"? "What services do you offer"? Called it!

We can't buy anything from her right now because we blew all our money in the other shop

The gate! Lets leave this musty old outpost and do some adventuring!
You see that button that says "train" next to the character portaits? If you're at a trainer, you can up your characters skills if you have enough exp.


I actually decide to go south to the goblins so I can get some gold and items.

We stumble upon a goblin camp, but Jadese and Skyway get the jump on em.

These are Kingcomrade's priest spells. He dosen't have anything to do right now, so he defends.

Andharia's firebolt spell really dolls out the damage.

We approach the camp. Jasede's newfound bow tears one a new asshole.

Moar combat!



We win! And thats it for this update. Later, more goblin smashing.

Actually Avernum 4 is better than 5 which uses a retartded new engine that totally zoms into the area so you can barely see shit.

UPDATE!

We move into the campsite and find some armor and 20 gold.

Hungry for blood and more loot, the party rushes into the goblin fort.

Bring it, bitches.

There are a couple guards, but Jadese's sharpshooting softens em up for Skyway.

There are more than I thought, but Skyway runs em through.

Lets try out one of Kingcomrade priest spells. War blessing will make us hit harder.

Pretty.

We try Andharia's call beast spell. It's hard to see it in this picture, but its a brown rat right behind him.

Damn. I tried to move Jadese to a better position, but the goblin blocked him.

Wow. That war blessing spell does help.

The goblins gave us a beating. Kingcomrade, heal!

Almost done.

Holy shit! That brown rat is hitting almost as much as Skyway!

We heal up, grab the loot, and move on to the next room.

The last thing the goblin saw.

FALLOUT 3 SHIT ITZ COMING SHIT SHIT BRAHHHHH



See that purple goblin? He's a special NPC commander goblin. He could be a problem. Also he's about to get Jasede'd.

Skyway won't stand for this. HE WANTS BLOOD

Jasede plays the smartass.

Skyway is pleased.

Skyway misses, for the first time in this LP. It must be the crack.

Kingcomrade casts his protection spell. It should protect us from damage.

This is Andharia's icy rain spell. It's a area spell that does good damage and is extremely useful.

Jadese whips out his blade and finishes the other goblin.

Skyway actually hits this time.

Icy rain again. Heh.

We finally kill him, but Andharia is out of mana and Skyway took a beating.

He was carrying some chainmail and a blessed ring.

Someones been doing some sacrificing. Next time on lets play Avernum 4, we finish clearing and looting this place. Until then.

They saved as PNGs by themselves? Heh, just kidding, at least we're GIFfing it up now

Also, skyway didn't miss. The goblin chieftain parried.

Exile > Avernum. Isometric just doesn't really do it for me as well as overhead does with a graphical representation that simple.

why do noobs always use famous posters as lp characters

three things:

Cat-people stopped being cool once Japanese weirdos started putting them in skimpy costumes and making cat porn. 99% of the world was disgusted, .5% was sexually aroused, and the last .5% still think cat-people are cool.

The lizardman should really be the bruiser of the group. Nobody would mess with an 8-foot tall walking lizard. But for "balance" Jeff Vogel randomly decided they would suck unless you set them up with a spear.

I hope the next Avernum brings back dual weapon possibilities.

Yeah, I really like the Exile series too, but the lulztastic Avernum 4 makes for a better LP. And Avernum 6 will have duel-wielding.

UPDATE:

We quickly sack the commander's quarters and rest.

This is a cave lizard that Avernites use for transportation. Unfortunatly, some like the taste of raging troll and Warhammer40k pics.

Jasede misses :evil:

Quick action gives him a second turn, but the lizard advances.

Skyway lays that bitch to rest.

Ooo, nice. Theres a leather helmet, a health potion(red), energy potion(green), and a crystal.

Some stairs. We'll go down there, but not yet.

We go all the way back to a path branching off from the first room and find some more goblins.

Skyway's one-hitting, as usual.

This is Kingcomrade's smite spell. It's firebolt but holier.

Skyway takes out the trash.

We give some of the loot to Jasede because Skyway is almost encumbered. We also get a spear that goes to Andharia cuz he's the only one who knows how to use it.

Andharia casts call beast but it runs the fuck away because he was blocking it

Y'know, I think the only diffrence between the berserker and soldier classes is that berserker hits for more.

More sacrificial alters?

I bet you can guess what happened to those goblins.

I give Skyway the spear before I remember that his skill in pole weapons is 0. Okay, lets check out that alter.

ALRIGHT SKYWAY IMPALE THAT DEMONIC WHORE

Jasede calls dibs, though.

Skyway isn't going to be hitting shit this battle cause I gave him the spear.

Apperantly, fire dosen't work against demons. No fucking shit.

Seems like Jasede is the only one going to be doing damage this battle. Fortunatly, it looks like the demon dosen't have much health.

Skyway misses.

Kingcomrade hits him with a point blank smite spell for massive damage. We take what little loot is left and get back to the outpost to sell our shit and check out the cool dagger we got.

Dagger's stats. I give it to Kingcomrade.

We sell the shit from the goblin cave and make 277 coins. Nice.

We go back to the mage chick to upgrade Andharia's spells.

We buy another level in Firebolt and Call Beast.

After that, we run back on the goblin path past the cave.


Next update, we kill more goblins and make our way to Grindstone. I'll update sometime tommorow.

UPDATE:

So yeah, on to Grindstone.

We run into some goblins almost immediatly.

Skyway = Fifth Horseman of Death

How the fuck do you parry a magical fireball?

Jasede must have taken a couple points in point-blank shot.

Jesus Christ. I should be keeping a body count for Skyway.

Also, that dagger we gave Kingcomrade? Pretty effective.

Finally, I got a good shot of Andharia's firebolt spell.

The blood splat graphics are so silly.

Moar battle.

Skyway levels up! 'Bout time.

I give him 2 points in quick action and 1 point in defence.

Looks like Kingcomrade leveled up, too.

I give him 1 point in spellcraft(makes all spells better), and 2 points in first aid.

Andharia and Jasede haven't leveled up yet, so we move on.

Overkill x 10

Skyway runs up to attack but runs out of action points and thus gets gangraped by goblins. Andharia has a solution, though.

FLAWLESS VICTORY

Andharia and Jasede are now level 2!

We give Jasede 2 points in quick action and 1 point in tool use. He is one fast fucker.

We give Andharia 1 point in spellcraft, 1 point in hardiness(giggle), and 1 in first aid. Everyone in the party is now level 2.

Cave bat. Shouldn't be too hard.

How much punishment can that fucker take?

The bitch finally goes down with a smite spell.

Wecome to Grindstone. It's slum-tastic!

The commander of Grindstone is called Grimes. If that doesn't scream poverty then I don't know what does.



The party smells cash. They leap at the chance for more phat loot.

Awwight.

We step into the mines but nobody likes us here. We quickly step out.

Thats it for today. Next time, we explore the area, check out the mines, and maybe even fight a orge. Hopefully we don't get our asses wiped all over the cave.

This thread seriously needs to go to the next page before any updates follow. Right now the byte-count on this page is bigger than the game file itself.

1. Don't use PNGs.
2. Don't use GIFs, their compression isn't better - fact.
3. Use JPG.
4. Change pics' resolution: 800x600 would be enough for text-heavy pictures imo but you can also leave them as they are, 640x480 for all the others.
5. Fight the ogre!

The game is not that ugly. I'm an old fuck, I've seen far worse, I could live with graphics like those. But the way the party stands in line does look incredibly stupid.
