________________________________________________________

I'm thinking about starting a LP for Mysteries of Westgate.

The idea is to make an evil playthrough, trying all or most evil options and quests in the game (I already finished the game with a Good character and I was pleasantly surprised to see there is enough going on to justify starting it again).
Of course, we have the worst intentions for the NPCs as well, including turning the fallen paladin to a Champion of Shar at the end. :twisted: (btw, if there are any special requirements for that, please post or pm me).

Drawing some inspiration from this abandoned MotB thread, I created the following character:

Female Warlock, called Code'Xia.
Level 8 (as the game starts)

Stats:
STR: 10
DEX: 14
CON: 14
INT: 14
WIS: 8
CHA: 18

Skills:
Bluff (maxed)
Concentration (maxed)
Lore (maxed)
Spellcraft (maxed)
Taunt (max-2)
Use Magic Device (2 ranks for now, +4 from class ability)

Feats:
Toughness
Weapon focus: Ranged Touch Attack
Combat Casting
Spell Penetration

Invocations:
Beguiling Influence
Draining Blast
Eldritch Spear

Eldritch Chain
Flee the Scene

Any suggestions are welcome, especially since this is the first time I'm playing a warlock (Ammon Jerro doesn't count).

Only do it if you're actually going to finish it.

There's too many LP threads that start but never finish.

I might do one or two when my new PC comes.

I rarely start anything that I don't intend to finish. :)
I will actually try to go through most of it this week, as I'm on holiday. After that, updates may be more rare, but it will be finished.

Why would you need it? Touch attacks ignore most AC modifiers, so they aren't hard to land.

Mmm, I think it makes sense for Warlock, since the Eldritch Blast (which I'll be using a lot) is basically a ranged touch attack, and my ranged attack bonus is not that great (6 BAB + 2 Dex).
But like I said, haven't played warlock before so I'm not sure.

Warlock? Boring.
It's a great choice because the game gives you a shitty ex-paladin and a rogue for your party early on. It also works well for NWN because it doesn't have to rest every 2 fights.

That weapon focus feat is a really good choice. There aren't many feats that a warlock needs. If you aren't going for a high dex you will probably end up "wasting" your other feats on something like medium armor, shield, and combat caster proficiencies.

Ogg is right, Warlock is the most boring and shitty class available in NWN2. Spam the same spell over and over and over and over the whole fucking game. It needs a certain mindset to take pleasure in that I guess. Take a Wizard or Sorcerer instead.

Sorry for the delayed start, had some problems with my PC and had to reinstall Windows and NWN...

Thanks to those who sent comments and suggestions. I decided to stick to Warlock, as I think this class fits the setting and the role I'd like to play.

The first update will show the opening scene and I'll show dialog in more detail, as the characters are introduced as well.
Here goes...

Intro

nwn2main2009-09-0717-49-34-64.jpg

The game begins by explaining the reason of the MC's trip to Westgate.

nwn2main2009-09-0717-49-40-01.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0717-49-47-81.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0717-50-19-28.jpg

The ship arrives in Westgate

nwn2main2009-09-0717-50-43-03.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0717-50-37-18.jpg

These creatures seem to be common in these waters.

nwn2main2009-09-0717-51-09-45.jpg

Code'Xia is waken up by a crew member, who starts making some strange accusations.

nwn2main2009-09-0717-51-25-60.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0717-51-53-89.jpg

The guy suddenly transforms into... something.
nwn2main2009-09-0717-52-49-95.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0717-53-04-75.jpg

But it turns out it was just a dream.

nwn2main2009-09-0717-53-18-85.jpg

The guy gives us a quick rundown of what's going on in the city.

nwn2main2009-09-0717-54-41-06.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0717-54-45-57.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0717-54-53-31.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0717-54-59-21.jpg

So it appears we have two main leads to solve the mystery of the mask: the new gang, Ebon Claws, and the local church of Lathander.

As we get off the ship, we are greeted by someone:

nwn2main2009-09-0718-09-51-00.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0718-10-16-25.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0718-10-29-25.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0718-10-31-76.jpg

This is suspicious... What are the reasons for this hospitality?
nwn2main2009-09-0718-10-52-64.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0718-10-55-87.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0718-11-03-46.jpg

She does have a point there, right now we need help to get around the city.

nwn2main2009-09-0718-11-13-95.jpg

Let's check Rinara's character sheet:
nwn2main2009-09-0718-13-24-51.jpg

Here's the map of the harbor area. We'll start by checking out the local tavern, which is conveniently placed right near the dock.

nwn2main2009-09-0718-11-34-84.jpg

On the way to the tavern, we are stopped by a gang:
nwn2main2009-09-0813-36-10-64.jpg

I'm trying to use my maxed out Bluff skill:
nwn2main2009-09-0813-36-52-23.jpg

Apparently, this guy is more cunning than I thought. That, or this is a fake choice and this is a scripted scene.
nwn2main2009-09-0813-36-57-09.jpg

Rinana seems to know this guy:
nwn2main2009-09-0813-37-14-62.jpg

He recognizes her also and calls her "Lady of Shivs", to which Rinara reacts rather violently
nwn2main2009-09-0813-39-00-03.jpg

So, Rinara is actually a former Night Mask...
nwn2main2009-09-0813-39-08-21.jpg

I ask her about it and she appreciates my being subtle about it:
nwn2main2009-09-0813-39-11-46.jpg

She confesses her true intentions (well, at least partially):
nwn2main2009-09-0813-39-21-93.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-39-34-39.jpg

We finally enter the tavern, only to find another conflagration. Three drunks are trying to pick a fight with some guy:
nwn2main2009-09-0813-41-39-57.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-41-55-37.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-42-15-64.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-42-39-00.jpg

So this guy is a fallen paladin... interesting.
nwn2main2009-09-0813-43-16-87.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-43-31-92.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-43-42-23.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-43-54-04.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-44-14-60.jpg

So he lost his paladinhood because he butchered some Night masks.
nwn2main2009-09-0813-44-33-90.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-44-52-29.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-45-07-39.jpg

He suddenly recognizes Rinara:
nwn2main2009-09-0813-45-17-50.jpg

nwn2main2009-09-0813-45-34-14.jpg

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's it for the moment.
In future updates I won't be posting full screens for all dialogs, unless it's something important.
Let me know if the dialogs in the small window are readable, if not, I'll work something out for those (maybe include only the dialog window, in somewhat larger size).
Next update to come in several hours.
Any suggestions are welcome.
WTF you talkin' about? There are only two plate armors visible in the screens and both of them cover that area...
Part 1: Discovering Westgate
Since we're still at the tavern, let's chat a bit with our new party members and other patrons.
CodeXia.jpg
Mantides, what did the Night Masks do to you?
Mantides.jpg
They took the one person I cherished more than anything else in this mortal realm: Tasheni, my lover and partner. She was more secure in her faith of her deity, more capable of compromise... I was young and too impetuous.
Tasheni was the better half of our partnership, which is why they targeted her instead of me.
Alas, our differing faiths meant we could never be with each other all the time. Tasheni was on a mission for the church of Mielikki when she disappeared. I never found out what was done to her, but it can be none other than the Night Masks who were responsible.
CodeXia.jpg
Tell me more about Sword Lane.
Mantides.jpg
You won't let this lie, will you? I was sent to Sword Lane on church business, to investigate rumors that a group of Night Masks were using an abandoned warehouse there as a safe house.
There were nine of them. But I was fully armored and my sword cut through three of them while the door was still clattering to the floor. I slaughtered them all. All but one.
Rinara.jpg
And I guess we should all be grateful for that. you were so preoccupied with sating your rage that it would have been easy enough to skip a dagger in your back. Still, why risk my own hide? I wanted out anyway. From the room, and the organization.
Mantides.jpg
You did me no favors by staying your hand, Rinara. I've come to realize that my actions that day were no better than those of an orc savage pillaging and murdering from the Spine of the World. You should have stopped me.
CodeXia.jpg
Have you attempted to reclaim your paladinhood?
Mantides.jpg
I've thought about starting again, but how? What I did can never be forgiven. The Night Masks at Sword Lane were young and yet to be sullied by evil deeds. One of them was only seventeen. Lathander could never forgive what I've done.
So, Mantides is a whining pussy. We'll have to turn him into a real man is he's going to stay with us.
Maybe Rinara has more useful things to say.
CodeXia.jpg
What can you tell me about the Night Masks?
Rinara.jpg
They do the usual criminal stuff - theft, smuggling, extortion - plus a lot of political maneuvering to make sure no one stands in their way. I've heard that they've even expanded their operations to other cities on the Dragon Coast.
CodeXia.jpg
Who leads them?
Rinara.jpg
Someone called "the Faceless"... or at least, that was the rumor. None of us street-level operatives ever saw the Faceless. In fact, he was never spoken of except in whispers.
But hey, someone had to be running the Night Masks, right? Whoever he was, he was good at hiding his identity, even from his own people. "The Faceless" was an apt name, if not the correct one.
CodeXia.jpg
Why did you leave the Night Masks?
Rinara.jpg
Because if I didn't disappear, the Night Masks were going to make me disappear. A group of new bosses took over and decided to cut ties with a lot of us street-level operatives. I guess they saw us as liabilities.
Unfortunately, I never learned much about the new bosses, the ones that are apparently still in charge today. I was too busy running for my life.
CodeXia.jpg
What made you think you were going to be killed?
Rinara.jpg
(Influence - Success) My partner Viglor tipped me off. This was a very nice thing to do, especially for a vicious thug like him. I could tell he was trying to...
Well, there's no point in getting into this now. You'll learn all about it soon enough. It involves some business I left unfinished when I fled the city. I think you can help me with it... when the time comes.
CodeXia.jpg
What was your job with the Night Masks?
Rinara.jpg
I was a collector. I picked up protection money from business owners and the like and dropped it off with my superiors. For the most part, it was a straightforward job. Not many tried to resist the Night Masks.
CodeXia.jpg
And if they did?
Rinara.jpg
(Influence - Success) Then I started removing body parts, starting with the nonessential ones. I didn't enjoy it, not the way my partner Viglor did, but I had to be ruthless to survive. After all, the Night Masks aren't any less ruthless with collectors who don't deliver their quotas.
CodeXia.jpg
Why did you decide to return to Westgate?
Rinara.jpg
(Influence - Success) Hmm, let's just say that I have unfinished business... very lucrative unifnished business.
Now that I've gotten to know you better, I'm thinking you can help me. But not now.
OK, moving on... Let's talk to the bartender a bit.
d1.jpg
d2.jpg
We go talk to Marv, who is at the entrance.
d3.jpg
So, a bouncer called Marv is looking for his girlfriend, who is a dancer in a bar... This sounds oddly familiar... Anyway, we agree to take the job, as there's a reward involved.
d4.jpg
We go outside the tavern and run into a drunken old sailor. After some nonsense, it seems he actually knows something of value to us.
d5.jpg
d6.jpg
There's not much more to do in this area at this point, except to check out an exotic shop.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-01-00-00.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-01-23-76.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-01-46-34.jpg
Looks like a bigger merchant house is trying to buy her shop.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-01-53-21.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-02-52-25.jpg
We agree to take the shop under our protection, with some benefits, of course (discount at the shop).
With that said and done, time to move on to the next area. Here's the city map.A nice thing about Mow is that it allows direct transport to various locations in a certain area. Just click a marker on the map and you are taken directly there.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-05-08-65.jpg
As soon as we enter the market area, a beggar starts asking for gold.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-05-48-01.jpg
But...
nwn2main2009-09-0814-05-51-82.jpg
We go near the house to check this out.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-27-29-12.jpg
We can't enter the house now, so we'll have to come back later.
Just near the house on fire, we find the Urdo residence, so let's have a talk with that Dalia bitch.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-28-03-17.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-28-23-28.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-28-38-39.jpg
We deliver Okuzo's message, but Dalia doesn't back down. We return to Okuzo to inform her of the situation.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-30-18-09.jpg
This closes this matter for now...
Back to the market triangle, as we walk by one of the houses, something interesting happens.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-40-01-37.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-40-06-93.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-40-16-67.jpg
This is worth investigating, but right now we have more pressing matters, to find a lead on the mask.
There isn't much to do either in the market, since we hardly have any money, and stuff doesn't come too cheap. We had on to the Arena district, which is where the church of Lathander is located.
As we enter the district, we find two idiots activating a portal
nwn2main2009-09-0814-42-06-20.jpg
Rinara has an explanation:
nwn2main2009-09-0814-42-21-90.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-42-25-28.jpg
Hmm, that sounds like a great place to check out, full of opportunities. We'll check that soon enough.
Here's the map of the arena district. The church is located at the upper west side.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-42-43-29.jpg
As we enter a church, someone is rushing towards the exit.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-44-58-17.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-45-06-00.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-45-08-26.jpg
Looks like she doesn't have a good impression of the local priest...
nwn2main2009-09-0814-46-08-32.jpg
this line reminded me of the Practical Incarnation :)
Charissa is not too fond of that answer, though.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-46-21-37.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-46-27-32.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-46-34-23.jpg
Cool, another party member, and a useful one. But she seems too fanatical with justice and fighting evil and all... We'll have to watch our back with that one.
We proceed to meet the local priest.
nwn2main2009-09-0814-47-52-01.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-48-10-92.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0814-48-33-73.jpg
Great, another incompetent, opportunistic asshole. I'm beginning to like this city more and more...
CodeXia.jpg
I need help ridding myself of a cursed mask.
Obid.jpg
This mask holds a terrible curse, that much is true. While it once belonged to a Night Mask, the power held within is of a much different variety. A spirit is tied to this mask, and her need for vengeance is terrible. She resists even my formidable attempts to sever the link.
CodeXia.jpg
Do you have any suggestions?
Obid.jpg
I believe your only hope of removing this curse it to discover the true nature of the spirit. She would seem linked somehow to the Night Masks. I suggest you investigate this organization, find out what you can.
I do have a possible lead for you. A young pries named Jeswick Salem has recently gone missing. He had complained of being watched, and I suspect the Night Masks may be involved in his disappearance.
CodeXia.jpg
Your "lead" involves doing the church a favor? I'm not surprised.
Forget it, I'll investigate myself.
Obid.jpg
If you change your mind. I'll be waiting.
We're not too happy about doing anything for that guy, let's check out also the second lead, with the Ebon Claws.
Right near the church we see the City Watch barracks. Inside, we find a female officer dancing and matching a certain description.
nwn2main2009-09-0815-00-54-68.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0815-00-59-67.jpg
d7.jpg
Using a healing kit, we heal her broken ankle.
d8.jpg
d9.jpg
We tell her to drop the City Watch and return to the bar.
Marv will be happy when we tell him. For this we get several potions, which will come in handy.
Back on the street, we run into another bum who is selling hamsters. We look at the cage and notice one hamster looking different than the others and gazing us.
Let's see what this guy says.
This is not really an important quest, but it's one of the funnies I've seen in all NWN games, so I'll post it in more detail
nwn2main2009-09-0815-31-44-35.jpg
Minx?! That's not right...
Anyway, he tells a story and the great warrior Minx and his hamster Bloo and then offers to sell us a hamster as a souvenir.
nwn2main2009-09-0815-32-07-32.jpg
Genuine Rashemi hamster my ass...
nwn2main2009-09-0815-32-12-32.jpg
Anyway, we buy the hamster. Yay!
nwn2main2009-09-0815-32-43-60.jpg
She (it's a female) looks agitated and it seems to want to go somewhere.
nwn2main2009-09-0815-32-47-85.jpg
Following the rodent's directions, we find a pile of garbage. Great...
nwn2main2009-09-0815-33-07-92.jpg
On a closer look, the garbage hides the entrance to a small cave.
nwn2main2009-09-0815-33-29-50.jpg
After killing the ferrets that attack us, the hamster points to the tree in the cave. Wtf?
We eat a fruit from the tree and pass out...
nwn2main2009-09-0815-35-03-54.jpg
WTF???
nwn2main2009-09-0815-35-08-76.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0815-35-15-68.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0815-35-25-12.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-0815-35-32-29.jpg
OK. that is some fucked up shit. That berry I ate just gave me the biggest trip ever.
...or did it?
For the sake of it, we buy some black robes and go to the location on the map.
We are asked for a password... Here the game does a little pun on such situations in RPGs.
OK, after that weird conversation, we enter the building, to walk in during some preparations for a ritual.
Again with the trip inducing berries.. Oh well, here goes nothing.
A giant ferret appears and realizes we are not supposed to be here.
The hamster kills all of them, thanks us and dissappears.
That the hell was in that berry? Anyway, the cult leader did drop some loot, including a Ring of Protection +3, which is our best item so far.
nwn2main2009-09-0816-04-18-45.jpg
OK, back to serious business. To find the Ebon Claws, we go to the sewer that drunk mentioned. After killing some rats, we find a locked door.
nwn2main2009-09-0816-10-20-59.jpg
Trying again my maxed Bluff skill + Beguiling Influence this time. They will surely fall for it!
nwn2main2009-09-0816-10-28-84.jpg
Or not...
nwn2main2009-09-0816-10-36-62.jpg
But the mask story seems to do the trick.
nwn2main2009-09-0816-10-44-26.jpg
We are allowed inside and a ...person "welcomes" us.
nwn2main2009-09-0816-11-05-03.jpg
What the fuck is with the giant rats in this place?
The woman has the gestures of a rat also. The Ebon Claws are a bunch of wererats!?
Altama.jpg
If we're going to talk, I suppose introductions are needed, yes? My name is Altama. As you might have guessed, I am the leader of the Ebon Claws.
CodeXia.jpg
I am called Code'Xia.
Altama.jpg
You're lucky my chief advisor is a sorceress with a talent for divination, Code'Xia. She tells me that you have spoken true. You are no Night Mask but rather one who suffers by their hand.
nwn2main2009-09-0816-11-22-18.jpg
This is Altama's chief advisor.
Altama.jpg
The intruder will show us the mask now, yes?
Altama.jpg
Yes, yes. The Night Masks leave masks such as this on the bodies of their prey in order to mark their kills. You're a different sort of prey but I doubt your fate will be any happier... not without the help of the Ebon Claws.
CodeXia.jpg
What are you proposing?
Altama.jpg
We of the Ebon Claws know more about the Night Masks than they suspect. We could help you with that cursed mask of yours in exchange for... certain services.
I could always sic my minions on you and put the Ebon blood in your veins, but I have enough wererats under my control... for now. What I need is someone who's comfortable above ground, in the places that lie just beyond our grasp.
Just try to touch me, bitch.
~~~~~~~~~~

Well. this is where this update ends and it's time for the first major decision.
Do we side with the opportunistic, greedy, power-hungry priest, Obid?
Or do we ally with Altama and her gang of filthy wererats?

You decide!

I seem to recall there was another game with two rival gangs one of which was composed of lycantrophes, but I can't remember any details.

Also, despite my username, I vote for the church.

Only one vote, for Obid, so we'll take that road.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Part 2: Finding Jeswick
After refusing Altama's offer, we head back to Obid to inform him we'll agree to follow his "leads".
nwn2main2009-09-1008-55-11-64.jpg
So the first task is to find a priest called Jeswick, and the first thing we need to check is a house in the market triangle.
As we exit the church, Charissa starts a conversation with Mantides
Note: I'll be posting these as much as possible, as they are usually interesting and reveal info about the NPCs
nwn2main2009-09-1009-08-39-64.jpg
Mantides.jpg
I didn't quit the church, the church quit me.
Charissa.jpg
Well, I'm not really sure how that works. You either follow Lathander or you don't. Opig has no say in what you choose to believe.
Mantides.jpg
Look, Charissa, I'm not so sure I want to discuss this with you, but I will straighten a couple of things out. First, it wasn't Opig - uh, Obid, - that threw me out. The people I displeased were a bit higher up than that.
Second, I can worship whomever I want, that's true, but it is Lathander's choice to accept my worship just as it is Tyr's choice to accept yours. If Tyr suddenly stopped accepting your prayers, where would your spells go? What of your powers overs the undead?
Rinara.jpg
Yes, the Night Masks have a saying: "What do you call a priest without their divine protection? Easy prey."
Mantides.jpg
Charming, Rinara... but true.
So, Charissa, what am I to do when all of my powers have been stripped? What is a paladin who can no longer Lay on Hands or who has lost the ability to inspire courage in their comrades?
Charissa.jpg
So then if your powers are gone, it was Lathander who rejected you, not his church.
So, Lathander will accept even a pompous windbag like Opig, but he won't accept you? What must you have done?
Mantides.jpg
And that's where this discussion ends.
Charissa.jpg
That's quite ok. I've heard enough to know the truth. Lathander - and Tyr for that matter - accepts some pretty atrocious behavior from some of his followers without withdrawing his favor, but you did something so bad that you were cast out? Hardly.
No, I'm not stupid. That only comes from doubt and rejection - your rejection of Lathander. period. So you saw something or did something you didn't like and you couldn't handle it. So you rejected Lathander, and now it's poor you... Well, suck it up.
Couldn't have said it better myself
Mantides.jpg
You have no idea what I did... What I saw!
Charissa.jpg
Oh, I'm sure it was life-altering, Mantides... or should I call you "Half-Man-tides!" After all, whole men do what they're supposed to. Half-men sit around and pity themselves...
Rinara.jpg
May you never have cause to doubt Tyr, you self-righteous git!
Code'Xia, do we have to bring her along any more? Listen to this nonsense!
CodeXia.jpg
Actually, I agree with her basic sentiment, but not her attack on Mantides.
Charissa.jpg
That's an attack? Hardly. I'm just trying to embarass him enough for his spine to re-form! He's just weak as it is...
Rinara.jpg
Let me show you weak, you little...
Mantides.jpg
Don't bother, Rinara. This is leading to a bad place.
As much as we'd have liked to see a catfight, this conversation is now over. So we go to the market district, to the house indicated by Obid.
Outside the house there's a crowd and a City Watch sergeant.
d01.jpg
d02.jpg
d02.jpg
d03.jpg
d04.jpg
d05.jpg
d06.jpg
d07.jpg
This mask convinces everyone of everything. They should have added a "dialog skill" called [Use Mask]...
Anyway, we're inside the house now.
nwn2main2009-09-1009-16-46-33.jpg
This idiot thinks we're Night Masks! Let's have some fun, then.
d08.jpg
d09.jpg
d10.jpg
Now you're talking...
d11.jpg
d12.jpg
Of course, we will NOT keep that promise...
d13.jpg
*Sigh* Noob... Just watch how it's done.
The sergeant leaves and we search Jeswick's body
nwn2main2009-09-1009-18-30-17.jpg
After this, we go to the City Watch captain. :twisted:
nwn2main2009-09-1009-33-45-36.jpg
d14.jpg
d15.jpg
This gains +1 influence with Charissa. Whatever...
Now we must go to the city slums, which are located south of the harbour district.
As we head there, we get the feeling we are being followed:
nwn2main2009-09-1009-36-42-28.jpg
We find a bum at the entrance to the Warrens. As he knows his way around we'll get him as a "guide", for a mere 1 gold.
nwn2main2009-09-1009-37-59-54.jpg
As soon as we enter the Warrens, we see that sergeant we just double crossed, with some bodyguards.
nwn2main2009-09-1009-39-07-83.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-1009-39-29-83.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-1009-39-39-26.jpg
Notice that he looks exactly like Obid, but with a mustache... :)
We quickly deal with this nuisance.
nwn2main2009-09-1009-41-19-01.jpg
As we explore the Warrens further, we are attacked by a giant wolf.
nwn2main2009-09-1009-46-54-12.jpg
We deal with this also, and that sleezy beggar shows himself again.
nwn2main2009-09-1009-48-27-48.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-1009-48-38-29.jpg
The beggar changes shape to a woman in robes...
nwn2main2009-09-1009-48-44-42.jpg
Where have we seen that face before?...
nwn2main2009-09-1009-48-44-43.jpg
Damn, she was Altama's advisor. What the hell is she doing here?
She just says two words and disappears.
nwn2main2009-09-1009-49-02-83.jpg
This raises many questions... But for now we can't do much.
Mantides has a revelation.
nwn2main2009-09-1009-49-11-92.jpg
CodeXia.jpg
What are you talking about?
Mantides.jpg
I can't be sure, but that monster... it recognized me. I knew a wolf like that many years ago, although the creature we fought was like a twisted mockery. Malthus was the steadfast companion of my Tasheni.
I'll need to investigate this.
Whatever...
We return to Obid to tell him what we found.
nwn2main2009-09-1009-53-38-69.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-1009-53-50-81.jpg
Obid.jpg
Then it would seem these hounds were ordered to kill the Night Masks at the behest of this mysterious woman. But enough of that - the Warrens are safe! Thanks to Obid Teltas and the church, the poor folk of Westgate can thrive once more!
CodeXia.jpg
I don't give a damn about the scum in the Warrens. Where's my reward?
Obid.jpg
You also deserve a share of the credit, of course! Here, take this as a token of gratitude for the role you played in this triumph for the church.
Obid.jpg
I have another lead for you. A Night Mask assassin has been uncovered by the City Watch. However, this assassin's family is powerful and has pulled some strings to set him free. You can buy many things in Westgate, but decency isn't one of them, it seems.
Look who's talking.
Obid.jpg
Captain Fennesh has asked you to head over to the City Watch barracks and speack with him about this matter. This is a great opportunity to bring more glory to the church - and potentially discover more about your cursed mask, of course.
Another "lead"... Not many other choices, unfortunately. Before we go to captain Fennesh, we'll take a stroll in the markets to sell some of the loot we found so far.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-00-00-01.jpg
What is this?
nwn2main2009-09-1010-00-00-02.jpg
He asks to find his brother, Tudor, at the nearby dog race track. He gives us a vial of "spices", which we must deliver to his brother. This could be interesting, let's check it out. Plus, we really need the cash at this point.
The "Track" is just nearby.
We are asked to check in any contraband...
nwn2main2009-09-1010-01-31-45.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-1010-01-38-25.jpg
Ok...
The vial of spices checks out, but I have to turn in my Potion of Speed.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-01-54-06.jpg
We find Tudor at one of the tables.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-02-19-04.jpg
After we give him the vial, he asks for something else.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-02-32-15.jpg
We get those too, and we demand an explanation.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-03-27-37.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-1010-03-35-90.jpg
Long story short: the owner's dog has won 147 races straight, he's obviously cheating. Tudor wants his dog to win and he created a potion of speed that's made from those spices in the vial and several kinds of alcohol.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-04-11-90.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-1010-04-30-89.jpg
2500 gold sounds really good at this point, sign me up.
But first... since we know the winner, let's make a side bet, against the house favorite...
d16.jpg
d17.jpg
Too bad we can't bet more, but this will have to do.
There's a guard in front of the entrance to the private quarters.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-05-33-92.jpg
Let's try to Bluff him:
d18.jpg
d19.jpg
Great success! We out-smarted a half-ogre grunt! Diplomacy at it's best!
In the dog kennels, we mix the potion with the dog's food.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-06-59-19.jpg
Some...thing catches us.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-07-02-53.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-1010-07-13-31.jpg
CodeXia.jpg
Beastie Boss?
nwn2main2009-09-1010-07-25-17.jpg
We use again our awesome Bluff skill to get out of this real pickle.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-07-44-56.jpg
Back to Tudor...
nwn2main2009-09-1010-11-17-40.jpg
Fact: there's another way to do this, if you don't want to rig the race (which is rigged already, but anyway). You can investigate in the private quarters and find an alchemy table, where you can create an antidote and put it in the owner's dog foo, for an even race.
Now let's watch the race:
nwn2main2009-09-1010-11-41-76.jpg
Two identical looking dogs run around in circles for 1 min. Yay.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-12-04-45.jpg
Big surprise...
nwn2main2009-09-1010-12-14-78.jpg
Why isn't this surprising either?
nwn2main2009-09-1010-12-34-61.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-1010-12-37-75.jpg
nwn2main2009-09-1010-12-40-94.jpg
Busted by the house's sorceror...
The owner doesn't want to pay...
nwn2main2009-09-1010-12-55-59.jpg
We can't accept that, so things quickly degenerate to violence. :)
They're not that hard to beat, though.
We loot everything in the back and gain one level after the fight. We return to Tudor, who quickly fled the scene when things started getting ugly.
nwn2main2009-09-1010-26-22-31.jpg
We also cash in from the bookie.
d20.jpg
This quest was very lucrative. We gained a level and got quite a bit of cash. Now we can proceed with Obid's quest and also try to work on a few side jobs.
More on the next update.
I vote for the rats - but from a metagaming view: it's better to have a working alchemy workbench.
Sorry guys, I had started working on the update when there was only one vote for Obid.
But there was a tie, in the end.
Regarding the alchemy workbench. There's a building with a mage merchant in the market district (there will be a quest involving him) who has all three workbenches, that's where all the crafting is done.
Unfortunately, crafting is severely limited by the availability of ingredients, gems, especially.
You can find recipes for everything but you have to choose carefully what you want to make.
Which makes sense, I guess, as Diamonds and Star Sapphires are not exactly pebbles you find on the street.
the alchemy workbench in the mages store does not function. at least it was that way when I played and I did not hear of any patch so far. That means you can never combine essences. The rat path would give you access to an additional working workbench.
Hmm, I missed that.
I didn't use Alchemy in my first play-through because I was able to find pretty much every essence I needed at the Druid merchant. The limitation on crafting was on stones for me.
In the end, I enchanted some armor and weapons and I made a couple of +4 items (Belt of Agility, etc), that was pretty much it.
