Warhammer Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - turn-based Warhammer 40k RPG from Owlcat Games

Cassia with Navigator talents is ridiculous, though. In a way I respect it as a design choice. Navigators to be true to the setting pretty much would be as powerful as the rest of the retinue combined so it's pretty true to character that the amped up super Navigator would be better than...

So I started playing this game called deadfire

    > you're (probably) expected to quest for all the factions and play all the angles in order to benefit yourself and find out what is going on in the Deadfire. They can be interesting, but a moral/reasonable man wouldn't align with any of the factions except to the extent he's getting paid. You...

Owlcat's next game is an AAA title that will need full voice acting to compete with BG3

It's a fair point, but any genre that can move 10 million+ units at full price can't really be ignored (or shouldn't be -- publishers can and have ignored anything for any reason), and if BG3 hasn't sold 20 million units yet, it eventually will.

Baldur's Gate Larian is moving away from D&D, no BG3 DLC or BG4

Probably because nothing else works well. Even Mass Effect lifetime sales were pretty barely generously average. Even things that eventually seem to work (like Cyberpunk 2077) are awkward and problematic, the franchise was salvaged by a Netflix anime and almost two years of basically full-time...

Baldur's Gate Larian is moving away from D&D, no BG3 DLC or BG4

Hasbro/WotC fucking up a good thing is one of the universal constants we can all depend on to know the cosmic balance is unfolding naturally.

What drove BG3's success, game mechanics or emotional engagement?

Production values, co-op, and the D&D license.

Owlcat's next game is an AAA title that will need full voice acting to compete with BG3

You can call Owlcat a lot of things, but AAA definitely isn't one of them.

Owlcat's next game is an AAA title that will need full voice acting to compete with BG3

I assume that Owlcat post-AAA disaster would survive on crowdfunding life support, unless the power brokers in charge just decide to call it quits like the Troika heads did.

Owlcat's next game is an AAA title that will need full voice acting to compete with BG3

It certainly (probably?) was in the past, but BG3's success may spur them to pivot to different mechanics.

Clockwork Revolution - inXile's steampunk time travel first-person action-RPG led by Chad Moore and Jason Anderson

Some of those are doubtful. I have a hard time as seeing loop-driven plots like Groundhog Day or Donnie Darko (or and Edge of Tomorrow, as another example) as time travel stories since the protagonists aren't really going anywhere, but fair enough. I'm also not sure I accept the Christmas Carol...

Hogwarts Legacy - Harry Potter open world action RPG prequel set in the late 1800s

Not exactly surprising. Harry Potter has the kind of global mass cultural appeal that was only ever equaled by Star Wars.

Eternity Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire + DLC Thread - now with turn-based combat!

Wouldn't go that far. Making BG3 was difficult, technically complex, and consumed vast amounts of time and resources.

Eternity Josh Sawyer wants to make Pillars of Eternity 3, but only if...

Yes and no. There's a reason why common law marriages are a legal concept. If you didn't make it honest, eventually civil authority just decided you were married. "Getting married" properly also entails a few things, like completing a journeyman apprenticeship to practice your trade...

Game News Unforetold: Witchstone now available on Early Access

In an ideal world where business works exactly the way it should, sure, but what you propose implicitly means that people who already have lots of money are going to monopolize the production of art and entertainment and people with ideas/inspiration/passion but no cash are stuck spinning their...
