Jaesun, look. If you have a problem spending the money on it for worry that you feel you won't be getting your money's worth, that I can understand. But if you don't mind shelling out the $59.99 or whatever it is just for the chance to wander around and swing a sword at some zombies in a cave, for the amusement factor alone, why not do it?

That's how I'm looking at it. Same as with the former titles, although a whole lot more cockeyed this time (I know that's hard to believe with me). I won't be looking for the quintessential roleplaying experience -- I won't be expecting impressive C&C, anything more than superficial NPC interaction, nor even a particularly memorable gaming experience.

But for the LARPing factor alone, which you can get from any good shooter even, why not? Create some potions, enchant some staff or something, sneak around and BOOM HEADSHOT some orc fuck hanging out in a temple... doesn't that sound like fun? That's all on top of the first-person experience, so then can be seen as a bonus.

Okay, you can all laugh at me now. Again.

Oh, P.S., if this post does convince you to buy it and you hate it to such a degree as such that you feel you want to murder me, please just make it quick and while I'm sleeping. Thanks.

No, you are right.

That propaganda poster posted above doesn't make any sense. If you were playing an Elder Scrolls game for "choices and consequences", you are really doing it wrong. You would have been doing it wrong in 1996 with Daggerfall and in 1991 with Arena.

The promo version of Skyrim has been leaked for the XBOX360. It's probably a reviewer's copy, but I'm merely guessing.

edit: it's called The.Elder.Scrolls.V.Skyrim.FULL.RETAIL.XDG3.0800 so I suppose it's the final version. Can't confirm anything since I don't own a 360.

Now let's watch the 360 owners of the Codex scramble to "acquire" the game. :smug:
To play it, you'll need a modded Xbox 360. How don't know how many Codexers bother to have their consoles (if they have one at all) modded.

It was just a stab at people who say they don't like the game, but will get it anyway. :)

Why is the first person perspective always seen as superior? To me, it is quite the contrary, I avoid this shit whenever I can...

I never stated that. What I meant is that the extra activities you can engage in add a layer on top of what you'd get out a shooter, which can potentially make it mildly more fun to play.

Who the fuck played Elder Scroll games for "C&C"? Seriously, anyone? I always played it as a First Person Rogue-lite game. You make a dude, you explore a big world, kill monsters, explore. That's it.

That's literally the only post I've ever seen you make that had merit.

Guess we'll have to wait about 2,500 more times until the next one?

It is?

I prefer first person because I like the extra detail and direct control, but it's pretty much personal preference. I'll still play an isometric game if it's good. Only perspective I truly hate is third person, but even that's not a game changer, it just raises the "i'll give it a try" treshold.

Heck I never played TES for the RPG element. I just liked hiking in a graphical world doing adventures.

TES has always had a bad adventure system, a poor alchemical system which actually had MASSIVE potential, an unworthy spell-making system that really needs some logical love. If they ever fix these three issues they will force me to buy their game.

I don't know - taking a huge loan from the bank, then having to skip the country seems like some serious C&C.
:smug:

Anyway, Daggerfall should be played for scope, scale, chargen, enchanting, politics and dungeon crawling, Morrowind, for exploration, lore and spellmaking.

-realistically unlimited view distance, ability to implement ranged weapons with realistic range
-realistic limitations of FOV (well, not entirely, since you don't have peripheral vision, but still better than all around view)
-what you see is what your character does, no meta-sight, nor lack of in-character info
-possible environments not limited by camera, arbitrarily complex 3D environments possible, including non-euclidean ones
-higher amount of possibly relevant detail possible
-true exploration possible
-ability to let player get lost in the envirnonment

If you're moving a large amount of units separately it might be hindrance due to lack of large scale tactical overview, but if you're a single character (possibly with followers), or blob, or blob with detachable followers you can command, then there is no thing it doesn't do better.
And you can have a minimap fulfilling most of the functions of overhead view as well, if you must.

In addition sound becomes important. Turn off music and listening for enemies becomes a part of the gameplay as well.

To this day I believe that Looking Glass were pretty much the only developer to fully and properly utilize the strengths of a first-person perspective.

That is amazingly funny and ironic. TESF are sort of blowing up over it, too. Not that I go there or anything.
Yeah, spoilers are all over the place and people pretend they heard them things "somewhere".
