It looks like I will have to give this series a try at some point.

Why do we need new mainstream games again?

You should feel bad for not playing any Fire Emblem games bro :rpgcodex:

They're pretty :obviously: for a Japanese tactical game series as far as the gameplay is concerned.

They didn't get released outside of the land of fucked up fetishes for years because nintendo thought the western console gaming masses are unwashed barbarian retards incapable of enjoying strategy games. Which isn't that far from the truth :M

But I played Advance Wars so this Rock-Paper-Uzi gameplay is familar to me.

:smug:

Plus, ATM I'm too busy with playing Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre - Chocobo Edition. :M

But indeed - the moment I learned that FE series includes incest, I was sold, turn-based combat or not.

Advance Wars isn't really similar. True - same engine - but permadeath and not losing % strength for every health lost make a huge difference.

Now, she rushes for the border of Bern. If she can reach it, Lycia itself is not far off. For a moment, Lyn stops to imagine the face of a grandfather she's never seen.

Once we cross, we'll be safe from the bandits, right?

6WhzE.png
We should be. I doubt they'll be willing to pursue us across the border.

:rpgcodex: And then we'll only have the assassins Lundgren is throwing our way to contend with. Which will be such an improvement.

a8F3j.png
Lycia at last! It's been a long time. Tomorrow, we'll dine on a feast of Lycia's finest foods! And the mistress of the inn at the crossing is said to be a beauty. Ah, yes... Food and love. No better way to restore a man's soul! This is going to be a fine evening, eh, Kent?

Dog4o.png
If your behavior is as deplorable as ever, we'd best stay elsewhere. We're not here for sightseeing!

:rpgcodex: Cockblocked by your brother-in-arms again. :smug:

a8F3j.png
Oh, come now! That's not fair!

xpx5L.png
Kent, the inn will be fine.

Dog4o.png
As you say, milady.

a8F3j.png
Lyndis! You are truly an angel from on high!

xpx5L.png
It's nothing. Forget it.

q1hxg.png

:rpgcodex: Thanks for jinxing us, Florina.

xpx5L.png
Oh, no... Those bandits are persistent, I'll give them that much.

K7eSF.png

6WhzE.png
What? Not again! They're still after us?

0i1Eu.png
Heh heh heh. Don't think you're getting away so easily!

ghMd0.png

xpx5L.png
So? We care nothing for your reputations! We must get to Lycia! Get in our way, and you'll pay!

:rpgcodex: You just rolled a 20 for missing the point, Lyn.

0i1Eu.png
Cheeky little thing, aren't you? Let's get 'em, lads! And no holding back just 'cause there's women with 'em! Wipe 'em out!

What's your point, Erk? What are you trying to say?

SEUK6.png
...I swear, you are NOT the woman I agreed to escort...

WjmxE.png
What? What's that supposed to mean?

SEUK6.png
I heard someone was needed to escort a frail Lycian priestess to Ostia...

WjmxE.png
Yes, and I'm that priestess.

SEUK6.png
Frail? You? Serra, you have no need of any escort to protect you. Even the most hardened criminal would flee in terror after five minutes in your company. I'll return your money. Gladly. Now, will you please go on to Ostia alone?

ztN6g.png

WjmxE.png
A noblewoman like myself can't be seen without a proper escort. Your personality's nothing special, but you're not bad to look at.

SEUK6.png
I believe that's my line. And I have to take you all the way to Ostia? I only hope my nerves can endure the journey.

WjmxE.png
What are you mumbling about? You're so gloomy! Hm? Something's happening over there. Let's take a look!

SEUK6.png
Ah. Of course. The first opportunity to get involved in trouble, and she jumps right in. No amount of money is worth this. Hoo...

sgQyT.png

nWl6Z.png

WjmxE.png
Erk! Take a look! Fighting those bandits... It's a young girl!

tarAQ.png
Fool! Keep your voice down!

zqPfA.png

tarAQ.png
Eh? What's this? You in league with that she-devil?

WjmxE.png
Hm?

SEUK6.png
Ah... This is so wrong...

tarAQ.png
Gyaaa! I'll take care of you with one swift stroke!

uTjfk.png

WjmxE.png
Erk! Help me!!!

SEUK6.png
So... loud... Serra! Behind me! You there! See if you can match me!

Gelgv.png

dQrWM.png

xpx5L.png
Look! Kodexer, someone's over there!

:rpgcodex: I think I know that voice...

EcCjP.png

WjmxE.png
Hm?

xpx5L.png
Why are you fighting these bandits?

SEUK6.png
... It just happened.

WjmxE.png
That's not true! Those ruffians thought that we were with you!!! You got us into a terrible situation! Now, how are you going to get us out?

:rpgcodex: I think I know who those manners belong to...

SEUK6.png
Serra, if you'd not been so meddlesome, this all could have been avoided. My apologies. Please trouble yourself with us no more.

xpx5L.png
But...if you're going to have to fight anyway, shouldn't we team up? It will end things faster, right?

WjmxE.png
That's true. Yes! That's a good idea. Erk! Go and help these ladies.

:rpgcodex: Ugh. Black Cat. But at least you've gotten rid of all your stuffies and thingies.

SEUK6.png
But I... Fine!

xpx5L.png
Very good. My name's Lyn. So tell me, will you join arms with us?

WjmxE.png
Yes, we'd be glad to. My name is Serra. This is my escort, Erk.

:rpgcodex: So it's come down to this.

WjmxE.png
Be a good boy, and go fight now, Erk.

SEUK6.png
...Sigh...

oX9PN.png

:rpgcodex: The one and only.

WjmxE.png
I'm Serra. Nice to meet you.

:rpgcodex: You don't fool me. Change of name, change of face - but I can see right through your disguise.

WjmxE.png
By the way, see this contrary mage here with me? His name is Erk. I think he's been hurt.

:rpgcodex: What's with the rhyming going on in this mission?

WjmxE.png
I am Erk's emplyer. "Master," I suppose you could say. What I'm getting at is... I was thinking of healing him free of charge.

:rpgcodex: How thoughtful of you.

WjmxE.png
I know, I know. I'm generous to a fault. Hm? Why are you looking at me like that? Praise my generosity!

:rpgcodex: How about I give you the finger, and you give me my heals?

WjmxE.png
Anyway, that's the deal. Please direct me to him.

If I'm going to fight, however, I will show you the true power of magic!

:rpgcodex: Cool story bro. Now come here and let me look at the pair of you.

bqwTg.png

:rpgcodex: Black Cat here can use staves. Healing will always come in handy. She has no offensive capabilities though, being the hardcore follower of the right hand path that she is.

:rpgcodex: Erk's stats seem very unimpressive, but he has plenty of room to improve. Plus - magic.

:rpgcodex: This mission looks deceptively easy. Black Cat heals Erk again and I send Florina in to finish off the swordsman.

:rpgcodex: Florina severly wounds the bandit and I give Erk the glory of the kill. Now only the leader left. First though, I check out the armoury.

ICLWJ.png

 Javelins! For everyone! Though these beauties are weaker, slower and less accurate than your standard Iron lance, they are ranged.

SA6Mr.png

:rpgcodex: Time to finish this farce.

:rpgcodex: No, bro. See, like your mates, I reckon you're too stupid to move out to meet my ranged attackers. :smug:

Only those in the service of good can wield them.

xpx5L.png
You helped us tremendously. Well, it's time for us to go.

WjmxE.png
Take care. Good-bye, Lyn.

xpx5L.png
Fare you well. You, too, Erk.

SEUK6.png
Good-bye.

5ZHAz.png

WjmxE.png
Oh my! Are you one of Lyn's companions?

a8F3j.png
Please, call me Sain.

WjmxE.png
I'm Serra. I serve House Ostia.

a8F3j.png
Serra... What a lyrical name. I am in service to Castle Caelin.

WjmxE.png
Oh! So is Lyn a member of the marquess's family?

a8F3j.png
She is the granddaughter of our lord, the marquess.

WjmxE.png
Hmmm... Such an important person.

SEUK6.png
Serra...what deviousness are you contemplating now?

WjmxE.png
Tee hee! Having a person of power in your debt is never a bad thing!

SEUK6.png
You can't be serious...

WjmxE.png
Oh, Sain! Do you think we could join the lady Lyndis's company? She seems like such a nice person, and I would ever so much like to help her.

a8F3j.png
Of course! We couldn't be happier!! Why, we were only just saying how we need some more fighting power!

WjmxE.png
Are you being hunted or something?

a8F3j.png
Yes, it's an inheritance dispute. Assassins everywhere.

WjmxE.png
Oh my! In that case, my healing staff and Erk's magic should come in handy.

SEUK6.png
Well, I, er... It sounds...dangerous...

a8F3j.png
Your staff and magic would be extremely helpful! Please wait here! I will go and speak with Lady Lyndis on your behalf.

Yes, Lord Lundgren. She's en route to Araphen.

Fun fact, later on you'll meet a joinable female offensive spellcaster.

Nice LP! Even if a little bit too... manly.

The Black Cat cameo, though... Somewhat... spot on, I must admit. (I'm so sorry.)

Overall,

The Codex is a manly place (yeah, I saw that snigger), so its personification must be portrayed as such. Completely ignoring that thread in the Library. :smug:

I'll be putting as many cameos in as the personalities fit. None of this shoehorning them in lark.

Anyways, update will come in the next 12 hours, featuring more plot, and the 2nd biggest city in Lycia.

Priscilla always turned out way better for me than Serra ever does. She's more mobile, and has better stat growths. The only nice thing about Serra is that I think her stat caps are better, but she'll never hit them with her crappy growths. Ultimately you won't be using either of them much. Once you promote your offensive spellcasters they'll be able to use staves too, and with their better magic power they'll be better at it. Lucius for the win!

Lycia is a federation of territories, each one ruled by a powerful marquess. Now, Lyn takes her leave of one of these territories, Araphen and sets off to meet her grandfather, the marquess of Caelin. However, the marquess's brother, Lundgren, hungers to rule Caelin. He is preparing a deadly welcome for Lyn, who stands to threaten his grasp of power.

a8F3j.png
This? This is Araphen. After Ostia, it's the second-biggest city in Lycia.

:rpgcodex: Even with abstraction, that is hard to believe.

xpx5L.png
The second biggest, hm? It does seem awfully busy. By the way, where's Kent?

a8F3j.png
He said he was going ahead to the castle, but... Ah, here he comes now.

YOwkN.png

qoBlQ.png

Dog4o.png
Let us proceed to the castle. They've prepared supplies for us. The marquess has agreed to aid us on our journey to Caelin.

xpx5L.png
He's going to help us?

Dog4o.png
Yes. Araphen and Caelin have enjoyed a sturdy friendship for many years. Once I informed the marquess of our plight, he agreed to lend us his strength.

a8F3j.png
Looks like we've got a smooth road ahead!

Dog4o.png
If we could pick up some soldiers, the road to Caelin would be much safer. I'm truly sorry for hardships you've suffered so far.

:rpgcodex: Loot, money and a growing bodycount. How is that suffering? Is that not what is best in life?

xpx5L.png
Don't be silly. You are so capable, Kent.

a8F3j.png
Kent!?

xpx5L.png
Hm? Oh, and so are you, Sain.

a8F3j.png
Of course I am!

:rpgcodex: Those fools would have died in our first encounter if it wasn't for me! Where's my goddamn respect!?

Dog4o.png
The castle awaits...

Who are--

YfrjM.png

xpx5L.png
I'm fine. He... This man saved me. May I ask your name?

:rpgcodex: Saved? What bollocks. Not with the training I've given you.

EOBZf.png
......

xpx5L.png
Wait! Why did you help me?

EOBZf.png
I thought a Sacaean plainswoman was being attacked. I was mistaken.

xpx5L.png
No, you were right! I am from Sacae. I'm Lyn, the daughter of the Lorca chieftain.

EOBZf.png
The Lorca? There were survivors?

xpx5L.png
Yes.

EOBZf.png
You should leave at once. A blaze has started in the castle, and it's spreading. Don't be foolish and waste the life I just saved.

:rpgcodex: Orly? Lyn would have destroyed that assassin, fool. Without a scratch on her.

xpx5L.png
You're from the castle? What's happening? How severe is the fire? Is the marquess safe?

EOBZf.png
The castle is under attack, and the marquess has been accosted. The man who attacked you was probably one of the marauders. As captain of the castle guard, it's my duty to rescue the marquess.

:rpgcodex: I can see you're very good at your job.

xpx5L.png
I see... All right then, we'll help you.

Dog4o.png
Milady?

EOBZf.png
Why?

xpx5L.png
These brigands are after me. If they're attacking the castle, it's because of me. So I must help if I can...

EOBZf.png
It sounds like you're involved somehow... Let's go.

xpx5L.png
You'll accept our aid?

Dog4o.png
......

:rpgcodex: I'm with you, bro. We're wasting time here.

gxsXo.png

EOBZf.png
Our tribes may be difference, but I will not abandon a woman of the Sacae.

xpx5L.png
Thank you, Rather! A thousand blessings upon you!

EOBZf.png
And a thousand curses upon our enemy!

7lWTe.png

EwdAy.png

RwfG1.png
What are you doing in my house?!

bGy8I.png

359bs.png
Your home offers a good view of the battle outside. Look, I'll pay you for the privilege. Please.

RwfG1.png
Like a vulture waiting for the spoils, eh? Terrible! Pay up! I'll be hiding below, so don't bother me.

359bs.png
I wouldn't dream of it. Now then, which side has the most to offer?

do9wJ.png

EOBZf.png
Perhaps the secret passageway...

xpx5L.png
Secret passageway?

EOBZf.png
An underground tunnel leading to the throne room. There are triggers in the barracks that will open the tunnel.

xpx5L.png
Head through the passage to the throne room... and rescue the marquess. Once that's done, can you drive the enemy from the castle?

EOBZf.png
Mmm...

:rpgcodex: And all the time you'll be merrily burning to death from that fire. Or is that forgotten already?

EOBZf.png
If we can release those triggers, my men and I can handle the rest. There are three triggers, though. All three need to be released, or the entrance won't open.

:rpgcodex: Rule of 3, haunting me wherever I go.

xpx5L.png
But the doors to the barracks are locked.

EOBZf.png
If we don't get inside and finish them, we're stuck.

xpx5L.png
So opening those doors is our first objective.

:rpgcodex: It still hasn't been explained to me how they got the keys in the first place.

7cnwz.png

:rpgcodex: So delightfully linear.

DVyvB.png

G8PD0.png

xpx5L.png
Who are you?

359bs.png
I'm Matthew, a specialist in acquisitions of all kinds.

:rpgcodex: Haven't heard it called that before.

359bs.png
Would you like to buy my services?

xpx5L.png
I've no need for a thief.

:rpgcodex: [Bluff] Fail.

359bs.png
Really? And how do you plan on opening the barrack doors?

xpx5L.png
What? How did you know about--

359bs.png
Bullseye!

xpx5L.png
......

359bs.png
Don't be mad. Hire me. For you, I'll even lower my normal rate.

xpx5L.png
I do need those doors opened... OK. You're hired. Why did you choose to ally yourself with me?

359bs.png
Hm? I was watching the battle from up above. Your group looked like a lot more fun than the dead guy. Pretty simple, really.

xpx5L.png
You're so odd.

359bs.png
It's time to get to work!

YcK6F.png

:rpgcodex: Don't worry, bro. This isn't Skyrim, so I know to keep fighting to the warriors.

uD1xI.png

:rpgcodex: Mostly useless in combat, Matthew will still be of use to me. His strong evasion means that, given a fortress or woods, his weak defenses can be mostly mitigrated.

z6uig.png

:rpgcodex: Ranged, good defenses, evasion, and all other stats. Rath is very strong, but starts off at a high level.

:rpgcodex: Flawless.

MVOn2.png

359bs.png
Say, Kodexer! Since we came all this way, what say we help ourselves?

:rpgcodex: The early thief gets the quest reward.

359bs.png
Huh? What do you mean, "No"? Don't be such a bore.

:rpgcodex: I said "Yes". :retarded:

359bs.png
If you want to win, you've got to use every means at your disposal. That's an ironclad rule!

:rpgcodex: Just shut up and open the chest, okay?

359bs.png
Yeah, I know stealing's bad. I'm well aware of that. We're saving the marquess, right? Let's just call this an advance on our reward. OK? Battles aren't won on virtue and glory alone.

:x JUST TAKE IT ALREADY!!

359bs.png
No one's going to miss a couple of chests. Relax.

2gavL.png

KMXYD.png

359bs.png
This is good for those of us on the...less robust side. Like me, for example.

:rpgcodex: Permastat boost? :incline: Now to visit the houses.

OTFku.png

RQTuG.png
I've heard tell that he's a nomad from the plains of Sacae. Odd, considering how the marquess so obviously hates the nomads. I guess the marquess is pleased to have a nomad under his control. The ways of aristocrats are beyond my comprehension.

:rpgcodex: The nobility enjoy wielding power over those they despise. News at eleven.

iVGs2.png

mRKEI.png
Nomads are barred entrance to the city on the marquess's orders. He says he will not allow the nomads' stench to infect his city. Long ago, the marquess was in love with Marquess Caelin's daughter. It's said she spurned him in favor of a nomadic prince. Even so, I think the marquess goes too far in his treatment of the horsemen.

:rpgcodex: Guy holding onto his grudge for 20 years caused by his own ineptitude. Obviously a paragon on his species. :smug:

PddT9.png

:rpgcodex: Just fodder.

DWiBI.png

:rpgcodex: More fodder.

CmBP4.png

1XunW.png

:rpgcodex: Yeah, I missed out the section where I dropped a door key found earlier because Rance had all 5 inventory slots taken, meaning I needed to run Matthew around a lot. Problem?

zamRl.png

xjUXM.png

SEUK6.png
I guess that was the second trigger. This leaves one more.

:rpgcodex: And what do you know, the boss of the level is on that trigger. :smug:

Afb9U.png

LwuQY.png

:rpgcodex: He's hideously slow, but with decent offense and damage. No ranged weapon means that he may fall for the same trick as the others. Dorcas and Florina combine to kill the archer.

QAxfD.png

WH7KH.png

:rpgcodex: Kent and Rance give lifts to Matthew and Erk respectively.

wfl6D.png

:rpgcodex: Rath leads the charge.

Just as the name suggests, armorslayers are useful against knights in armor. You want to know something? You need to give weapons to those who can wield them. Otherwise it's just a waste of a perfectly good weapon. Take this blade, I mean, I can use it, but... I'm not too strong, and...I just hate being counterattacked. Anyway, think strategically about who you can give weapons to.

:rpgcodex: Thanks for stating the obvious. Rance is going to have a new baby to play with.

3PLu3.png

xpx5L.png
We should be good to go.

a9Z9B.png

xpx5L.png
Good work! We'll let Rath take over from here.

:rpgcodex: Agreed. This is a waste of my talents.

teey0.png
You've done well. What a performance.

EOBZf.png
Sir... If you have praise, it should be given to this group.

teey0.png
Hm? Who are you?

xpx5L.png
My name is Lyndis. I'm pleased you're well.

teey0.png
Oh... It's you. You're Marquess Caelin's-- Leave us, Rath. I would speak with this girl.

EOBZf.png
...

:rpgcodex: :smug:

7N9Di.png

teey0.png
Do you know the identity of those responsible for this uproar?

xpx5L.png
I believe it to be the work of my granduncle, Lundgren.

teey0.png
That's exactly right. Which means my castle has been damaged in your family's petty inheritance dispute.

:rpgcodex: That's right. Lungren has to pay.

xpx5L.png
My-my apologies...

teey0.png
When I heard that Lady Madelyn's daughter was in trouble, I thought to lend my assistance... I find I've changed my mind. I withdraw my offer.

:rpgcodex: You'd not help in punishing those who damage your castle? :retarded:

NpjTP.png

teey0.png
... Your name is Kent, is it not? You failed to inform me of one most vital detail!

Dog4o.png
What... What do you mean?

teey0.png
This girl does resemble Lady Madelyn, but... I didn't expect to see her so tainted with the blood of Sacae.

xpx5L.png
What?!?

teey0.png
Don't you feel the marquess of Caeline would be troubled to meet this... nomadic mongrel?

FgBsO.png
You--!

rRRNt.png

:x Come on, Rance, let's kill this disrespectful bastard!

teey0.png
Hm... Your man is poorly disciplined.

Dog4o.png
Marquess Araphen! Please... If you would grace us with your aid...

teey0.png
I hear Marquess Caelin is ill and abed. I question whether he will survive to meet this girl. In which case, his brother, Lungren, will claim his title. And I would certainly wish to avoid trouble with the coming marquess.

FgBsO.png
You scheming...

:rpgcodex: Currying favours with those who would assault your property and kill your men. I would expect nothing more from highborn scum like yourself.

Dog4o.png
Sain!

Ibxjl.png

:rpgcodex: We've unfinished buisness fir--

Dog4o.png
Milady Lyndis! We--

xpx5L.png
I am proud of the Sacae blood that runs through my veins. I will NOT accept aid from one who disparages my heritage.

9xWii.png

:rpgcodex: Agreed. We don't need any help.

a8F3j.png
Don't worry about anything. We're all here for you! Isn't that so, Kent?

Dog4o.png
I beg our forgiveness.

:rpgcodex: Grow a backbone, Carth.

xpx5L.png
Why are you apologzing, Kent?

Dog4o.png
I've been so concerned with seeing you to Caelin. I failed to take your feelings into account.

xpx5L.png
Is that it? Trouble yourself no more. You have put my safety above all else. Hold your head up and be proud.

Dog4o.png
Milady Lyndis...

p5L66.png

teey0.png
If she had but shed a single tear, I would have granted her request. We Lycian nobles will neve understand those prideful savages.

pa5nC.png

EOBZf.png
Are those your true feelings toward the nomands of Sacae, milord?

teey0.png
What? Oh, Rath! I didn't see you there. My comments do not reflect on you. You are my captain. I'm proud of your service.

EOBZf.png
Of course. As long as we bend our knee to you, you care not where we're from. But when an equal comes from my lands? What conceit.

teey0.png
Rath! How can you speak to me like that? I have treated you well, have I not? I have you paid you well. I have treated you better than your kind deserves.

EOBZf.png
You will never understand. My service ends here.

oLh9I.png

xpx5L.png
He said my grandfater was ill. We must hurry to Caelin...

AFbMH.png

Dog4o.png
Lundgren's obstacles will become more difficult to overcome. However, I've vowed to see you through to the end, milady!

:rpgcodex: All obstacles so far haven't required us to get out of 2nd gear. With me here, we have nothing to worry about.

xpx5L.png
I'm counting on you, Kent.

DprV1.png

xpx5L.png
Thank you, Sain.

6zzjx.png

xpx5L.png
Thank you for always standing at my side.

:rpgcodex: Aww, thanks, babe.

xpx5L.png
It's because of all of you that I... I will persevere! They will never break my spirit!

N7jBg.png

xpx5L.png
Rath! What is it? What are you--

EOBZf.png
I overheard the marquess talking to himself. Lyn of the Lorca... Proud daughter of the Sacae... I would join you. I would add my strength to yours.

xpx5L.png
Really?

EOBZf.png
And this... I want you to take it.

xpx5L.png
This is... Gold!?

 Gold! :bounce:

xpx5L.png
It's too much. I can't accept it.

EOBZf.png
I have no need for it. And if it will help you...

xpx5L.png
But...

:rpgcodex: Hush, Lyn. Gold!

EOBZf.png
I cannot take back something once offered.

Priscilla > Serra in every way. Or does that change later on?
Priscilla always turned out way better for me than Serra ever does. She's more mobile, and has better stat growths. The only nice thing about Serra is that I think her stat caps are better, but she'll never hit them with her crappy growths. Ultimately you won't be using either of them much. Once you promote your offensive spellcasters they'll be able to use staves too, and with their better magic power they'll be better at it. Lucius for the win!

Agreed! Pricila is better than Sera and Lucius is superb when upgraded.

Slight spoiler for those who haven't played the game
Nino is even better (imho probably the best spellcaster in game) but she joins very late in game, and at very low level, so it's somewhat difficult to train her.

Now, she and her companions resume their march toward Caelin in earnest. Racing against time, with her grandfather's life the prize. Harried and impatient, Lyn presses onward. Suddenly a young boy appears and bleads for their assistance.

Magical attacks are special. You can't just avoid 'em like a sword or an axe. Not even if you're wearing armor. I got something for 'em. It's a special kind of water. "Pure water" it's called. Just sprinkle a bit on you. It'll protect you and lessen the damage you take a bit. Go on, take it. Don't be shy. It's not like I'm givin' you gold or anything. I'm Eliwood, of Pherae. My father is the marquess.

The marquess's son...

She was with a band of ruffians. She seemed upset. She looked in need of rescuing... Was I wrong to inolve myself?

At first glance, all I saw was a daughter of the plainsfolk. Now I can see it, though, you have your grandfather's eyes.

:rpgcodex: Is that meant to be a chat-up line in this corner of the world?

xpx5L.png
Do you know my grandfather?

kleOJ.png
The marquess, Lord Hausen, is my father's good friend. I also know that the proud people of Sacae tell no lies. It's true, isn't it?

Yes... Thank you. I would not have expected any Lycian noble to be so courteous to a Sacaean nomad.

kleOJ.png
You seemed to be in trouble. May I be of assistance?

xpx5L.png
Thank you for your kind offer. This is my problem, though, and I'll deal with it.

:rpgcodex: Now now, Lyn, this isn't time to turn away aid.

UJUsl.png
I've an idea. Would it be too much to ask that we travel with you?

xpx5L.png
I can't allow that! It's far too dangerous. We're being hunted. We never know when we're going to be attacked.

UJUsl.png
We wouldn't be a hindrance. We could even help you. Right, Ninian?

BT523.png
Yes. We might be able to repay our debt using our... special talents.

Yes, we are.

UJUsl.png
But this is their stronghold! They're bound to be well defended, not to mention well armed!

YSAxZ.png

BT523.png
It's OK...

xpx5L.png
Kodexer's agreed to attempt this...recovery. I wouldn't be here if not for that. Kodexer believes we can do this. I'm sure that decision was not made lightly. With Kodexer at my side, I'm confident we can win. Let's get your ring back, Ninian.

UJUsl.png
Milady...

BT523.png
......

a8F3j.png
Milady Lyndis! There are more of the foe inside that we thought.

:rpgcodex: Than you thought. I've already made contingency plans for that.

RaZYt.png

xpx5L.png
It's imperative we move carefully.

9aXvt.png

Dog4o.png
This narrow corridor can be used to our advantage. If we draw the enemy through here, we can engage them in small numbers and remain relatively safe.

:rpgcodex: Tactics 101, Lyn.

Dog4o.png
If time is a concern, we can always rush them... If we do that, we'd better be sure we can win.

xpx5L.png
so, Kodexer. What do you think? How we move forward is completely up to you.

:rpgcodex: First, I want to have a look at the layout of this castle myself.

yjsNs.png

:rpgcodex: The central... square... has a mage within - dangerous, I will try to avoid. My primary goal will be to break through that cracked wall and open that chest before anyone can take the treasure within to safety.

73Uni.png

:rpgcodex: Rath and Florina will provide a rearguard incase they try to flank us. Rath is already very powerful, and Florina's main advantage - her ability to move over terrain, cannot be used indoors.

N7U02.png

:rpgcodex: Soldiers are no match for Dorcas' axe.

ztC1Y.png

esowh.png

:rpgcodex: Erk isn't in position to initiate a magefight, but dispatches the soldier with ease and readies himself to recieve the first spell. Our strongest units move to block off the corridors whilst remaining safely outside the mage's range.

JQM5k.png

:rpgcodex: Rejuvenated by Nils, Sain takes a good chunk out of the crumbling wall with his javelin. A lance still wouldn't take it down in one hit, and a javelin will let him retaliate against the archer.

7ee0C.png

:rpgcodex: The brigand and Kent trade blows - the advantages swords have over axes not helping the knight with dodging the attack.

w3ION.png

:rpgcodex: Although the archer lands his shot, he comes off 2nd best to the exchange of damage and does not have Black Cat nearby to heal him.

uB1Bj.png

Xhlny.png

:rpgcodex: Boom. The mage dies screaming.

KPjYn.png

:rpgcodex: Sain breaks down the wall and Dorcas charges in, butchering the archer. Matthew, with a little encouragement from Nils, takes the chest.

WkMPd.png

syMMv.png

:rpgcodex: As a weapon - this is only useful against spear wielding, armoured behemoths. It's too slow and unwieldy to be affectively used against anyone else.

rZhBN.png

:rpgcodex: Kent doesn't quite finish off his enemy, his lack of damage becoming quite frustrating, but Wil is there to pick up an easy kill.

uwQhC.png

:rpgcodex: Though there is a danger in splitting up the group, I'd rather not leave that knight to stab one of our squishies in the back.

CQ1yU.png

187Wh.png

:rpgcodex: Lyn obviously doesn't either. :smug:

ceU4X.png

YylGO.png
This can't be... They should be dead! Everyone! Get in there and finish them! This is our final chance!

yX9Lb.png

:rpgcodex: A soldier pops his head out from the stairwell like a mole. Lucius pops him.

E0Y8m.png

:rpgcodex: The thief has no chance of piercing Rance's armour, so the hero hurls his mighty javelin at the soldier on his right.

31ffO.png

:rpgcodex: Nice dodging there, but it was never going to be enough.

M81TD.png

:rpgcodex: Wil is given a wake-up call from Nils, spurring him forward, close enough to shoot the thief, who quickly runs away.

fQx4E.png

SgnNa.png

:rpgcodex: More moles pop up from the floor. This time, dangerous ones. The brigand blocking the corridor comes under attack from Erk and Kent.

:rpgcodex: Thanks for the Xp. :smug:

yacs3.png

:rpgcodex: The mages advanced onto our group, who I ordered to retreat - none of them having decent resistance. With Lucius now close enough to lend assistance, we attack.

jYgLp.png

MjfBg.png

:rpgcodex: Nicely done. Sain rescues Matthew from danger.

7JREt.png

:rpgcodex: Out of range of the swordsman, Lucius is the one I choose to kill the mage.

Om2EF.png

:rpgcodex: Kent readies his lance and charges forward. He may be outnumbered, but I fully expect him to win.

64vcP.png

:rpgcodex: These Black Fang are pushovers. :decline:

773r5.png

:rpgcodex: Kent comes under attack.

VQooF.png

Fr0lD.png

:rpgcodex: That went well. Erk advances, setting one swordsman alight whilst Kent cuts the last one down.

L2xcO.png

:rpgcodex: Death to all who oppose us!

Earghh...

:rpgcodex: Finish him, Lyn. No mercy for the weak.

xpx5L.png
Give us the ring! And swear us this oath... You must promise to leave these two alone. If I have your vow, I'll spare your life.

YylGO.png
Failure... means death...

56bRj.png

:rpgcodex: Well what do you know, seems that someone has the some values as me.

xpx5L.png
Poison? He took his own life...

tUZfy.png

Dog4o.png
This man was trained by a well-organized group.

xpx5L.png
What do they want with Nils and Ninian?

:rpgcodex: Those two have a lot of explaning to do.

AkUe7.png

xpx5L.png
Nils, Ninian. Everything's going to be fine. As long as you're with us, you'll be safe.

UJUsl.png
But...

xpx5L.png
You witnessed our victory, right? With Kodexer's planning and my sword, you've no worries. If we all work together, there's nothing we can't overcome. I don't care who comes after you; I'll not let you be taken.

UJUsl.png
Really?

bFu5F.png

:rpgcodex: What hon--... Oh, right. On my honour as well.

BT523.png
Milady...

xpx5L.png
Oh, yes... This is yours.

BT523.png
Ah... It's...

xpx5L.png
You called it Ninis's Grace, did you not? That lout had it.

UJUsl.png
Milady Lyndis! Thank you so much!

The game is pretty lynear indeed!

Well, it is - just like any tactical RPG hybrid (except for Sengoku Rance).

On the flip side, as undead Phoenix mentioned, there will be sidequest. Also - sometimes, during certain missions if you managed to not lose this or that unit, you will get some story related events which can net to sidequests, bonus items, more units etc.

We will get to see that once the tutorial campaign is over. I remember when I finished the campaign for the first time, seeing ending slides and all, I thought that the game was fun but short. Then, I was moved to the campaign choice screen.

Odd that they have nothing to say. They could at least spill the beans about why they were being hunted.. :M

In due time, you shall learn that - if Undead Pheonix perseveres.
