Has there ever been a WoW clone that was even a tiny bit successful?

WoW did not define the MMORPG, it 'cloned' these:

Ultima Online, Everquest, Anarchy Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Asheron's Call, etc.

Yeah, but did any of them have hotbar skills with cooldown management?

Well played sir, well played.

Not really. It's the primary difference between MMO and WoW clone.

c) Ray & Greg abandoned their roles as GMs and Executive Producers and instead spent their time snorting off crack of prostitute's tits.
You don't snort crack. Crack is smoked, not snorted.

Well, if you take it literally they way it's written, he means they were sniffing the prostitutes' cleavage... maybe it's some sort of variation of the motor-boat... *shrug*

Very quick MMO History lesson:

First there was UO. (Actually NWN was there much earlier)
Then there was Everquest and it dominated everything. Period. Nothing could ever ever topple this. Nothing.
Then came Lineage. ^_^
And then came WoW.

Actually, MMO's predate UO on BBS's with Majormud('94), Tradewars('86), LOTRD('89), among others.

Being 100% text/ascii-character-based means nothing.

Codex Year of the Donut Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
BBS games were more similar to today's asynchronous casual games than to MMOs

it's not an accurate history, it's an overview of the most relevant games, though it should start with meridian, imo, since that is the first in the eq-> wow line and it was the first mmo to be played by people who weren't into muds and the like before.

“And Bioware? Don’t make me laugh. They’ve spent more money making the Old Republic than James Cameron spent on Avatar. Shit you not. More than $ 300 million! Can you believe that?
And you know what they’re most proud of? This is the kicker. They are most proud of the sound. No seriously. Something like a 20Gig installation, and most of it is voiceover work. That’s the best they have. The rest of the game is a joke. EA knows it and so does George Lucas, they’re panicking , and so most of Mythic has already been cannibalized to work in Austin on it because they can’t keep pushing back launch.
Old Republic will be one of the greatest failures in the history of MMOs from EA. Probably at the level of the Sims Online. We all know it too ……”

That's the prophecy of doom.

What the hell is the guy talking about, swtor is probably the biggest wow clone there is. It's much more like wow than kotor. The only thing it has from kotor is the setting.

That is the point. Nothing Star Wars (or space-related) ever comes close to WOW, because:
- girls don't dig SW
- WOW is played by fags and girls.

Simple.

"he stated mentioning that gamers actually wanted SWTOR to be more like Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), a single player role playing game by Bioware before it was acquired by EA, rather than World of Warcraft (WoW)."

Gamers wanted another KotOR like game because they were Bioware fans. They didn't want a MMOG or for their favourite developer to try to whore grab both genre with 1 release.

The decision of KotoR III or shitty MMO was all Lucas Arts decision, I hope they are happy with their decision. Though amusingly, had LA decided to do a KotOR III, BioWare would have probably turned into a shitty Mass Call Of Duty Effect clone.

Would probably be better, though.
