Game's good, has potential, but needs a shitload more of content, not many interesting things happening too frequently, which makes the game too slow to play.

Codex 2012 Codex 2013 Codex 2014 PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! The big plus of the game is highly moddable. I don't know if new events can be added, but adding new buildings and tech is easy. Ships require a bit more work, but shouldn't be too difficult.

Feels to me like the ship design and combat was the creators original vision. The rest of the game is pretty rudimentary, and hardly satisfying. Perhaps it should have been made into some sort of tactical game instead of a 4X/RTS.

Gonna post a small AAR on a fight I had for the control of a system in the galactic core.

2013-05-23_00001.jpg

The 1st, 2nd and 5th Fleets are tasked to engage 2 massive space ITZlamist battlefleets and wrest control of strategically valuable system.

2013-05-23_00002.jpg

We meet the first waves of space Andhairas which are mostly troop transports headed towards one of our populated star systems.

No further comments needed.

Having thinned them out sufficiently so that even if they get passed the planetary guns our troops would be able to slaughter them during their drop, we abandon the troop carriers and move on to the numerous escort frigates behind them.

2013-05-23_00009.jpg

Elements of the 5th Fleet engage them.

2013-05-23_00010.jpg

Cruiser > Frigate

2013-05-23_00011.jpg

Finally, we reach their capital ships and concentrate our firepower on the nearest one. The other 5 move closer to engage our ships/

2013-05-23_00012.jpg

They pull a significant force close to their sole planet in the system, which provides some fire support with it's orbital guns.

2013-05-23_00013.jpg

Caught in a pincer, the 2nd Fleet disengages and jumps south, avoiding any losses. 1st Fleet comes in from the west to hit the enemy while remaining outside the range of the planetary guns.

2013-05-23_00014.jpg

The rest of their forces driven off, only these heavy cruisers remain to fight the 1st Fleet.

2013-05-23_00015.jpg
]

Disentigrator arrays and Phasor cannons open up after the initial rail gun barrages. Missiles follow from our medium cruisers.

2013-05-23_00016.jpg

With only two normal cruisers heavily crippled and a few other minor damages we have managed to destroy that small but powerful fleet. Now it's up to the Spess Mehrens to take the planet.

2013-05-23_00017.jpg

Overall situation on the western arm. Blue is Terran Master Race, green and shit brown are xenos I took clay from but am in peace now. White is space islam. As you can see 4th and 3rd Fleets are keeping my northwestern frontier safe while the 5th, 1st and 2nd are fighting off the Andhairas in the center.

2013-05-23_00018.jpg

The east which has remained untouched by war. Dark Pink are space xeno furries, who are my allies, for the time being.

2013-05-23_00019.jpg

The Religion of Peace occupies a significant portion of the galaxy and are enjoying much success pushing south against the two xeno factions, who I weakened after two exhausting wars.

2013-05-23_00021.jpg

And here is our mighty battleship type, the Potatoland Mk I. Outfitted with 4 Disentigrator arrays, two massive rail cannons, scores of missiles, torpedoes and other rail artillery guns it can unleash ITZ upon those who insult Terra. Those 4 canopy shields also help a lot.

Potatoland Mk II will become our carrier, once I decide to design it. Up until now my fleets of 7 Battleships, 6 Heavy Cruisers and 6 Medium Cruisers are doing pretty good. Might add a couple of Carriers to each fleet when resistance stiffens as I advance into the north.

Map looks like shit, whoever thought up that empires should be stretching lines should reconsider his job choice. Like ship designs but fleet composition - add the most biggest ships - is sad.

There's something about fleet battles in this game that just makes me wanna stare at the beams and missiles all day. I'll still go back to Distant Worlds but I will get my money's worth out of this game eventually.

Empires aren't stretching lines. Those lines you see is from structures you place to speed up ship warp speed across big distances.

Yeah, that's why I haven't played it since beta. Just not enough content to justify the time spent playing.

Indeed it's a very slow paced game. Even playing on the smallest map sizes, it takes a long time for much to happen, and time processing can get pretty slow.

Not a fan of the EU games i take it then?
Not a big fan of Paradox in general.

inb4 fanboy butthurt.
Paradox is not half as good as people on this forum make it out to be

FUCK YOUUUUUUUU

He is right but wrong at the same time. Yes, Paradox games are nothing special and their AI is atrocious but there is literally NO competition in that genre. No one is making grand strategy games set in historical settings. No one is even making strategy games these days (ok some turn based here and there).

No you are not completely right because you simply cant compare their games to anything else because there is nothing else. And when comparing to other grand strategy games wannabes (supreme ruler, superpower, rulers of nations, pride of nations) it comes out in favor of Paradox by a huge margin.
