Decline PS4 wins the console war against XboxONE, yet it is a hollow victory as Consolesdämmerung is upon us

So it was a woman who designed winshit 8 "UI"? No wonder it is so dysfunctional and made explicitly for first time casual users and first time casual users only even on a "professional" version.
As far as the xbrick goes... at least total dumbassess need a total dumbass device, so all is Ok.

This was to be the future of entertainment. A new wave of gaming where you could buy games digitally, then trade, share or sell those digital licenses. Essentially, it was Steam for Xbox. But consumers were uninformed, and railed against it, and it was taken away because Sony took advantage of consumers uncertainty.

We want this back. It can't be all or nothing, there must be a compromise.

She's also responsible for the Office "ribbon" interface. I guess she never heard the old saying: if something works don't screw it.

So let me get this straight: The cunt responsible for the disastrous Win 8 Metro UI is now also the new Xbox chief?

Good fucking luck with that.

I don't know her competences in UI design but she looks like someone who mastered the art of the (X)botox :smug:

That pictures actually making her look better than she is. Any picture that isn't straight on will show he has a hideous chin that's clearly from a crappy plastic surgery job because it's so out of sync with the rest of her facial features.

Degenerate facial features is the new beautiful now. With these little deliberate blemishes, the corporate drones want to show people that they ain't perfect either, that they aren't infallible, that they're human too! They want you to understand that Microsoft is "by the people for the people".

"Now please buy our product". That plastic surgery was an irreversible fucking investment.

Forza 5 Isn't All On The Disc

While Microsoft has done away with its "daily check-in" requirement for the Xbox One, that's not the end of strange new digital firsts for the system. Witness Forza 5, which even when you buy it on disc, needs to download more of the game online the first time you fire it up.
Sounds crazy, but Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt tells IGN that there's actually a fairly sensible reason behind it:
So when you first boot up the game, we’re going to ask you to log in. And when you log in you’re going to get the Drivatars and you’re also going to get a whole bunch of content: tracks and cars. Our production schedule is such that we are putting them in as late as possible and that means making them free as downloadable content on Day One.
Bwhahahaha, these tards don't know when to stop. And of course the devs come up with the usual excuse, which they use about day 1 DLCs all the time.

When I first fired up Gran Turismo 5 on PS3, I had to wait like 45 minutes while it downloaded, updated and installed tons of shit. Not defending Xbork or anything, just saying. They're not the only guilty ones.

This is why GTR 2 is still the best racing sim and on PC to boot.

unless you had to input a dlc code first, that was just a normal patch.

Yeah, I know, it was same with GT5. But the important thing is not the wait time and the update, it is the principle. GT5 had to patch itself because it had bugs and shit, in Forza 5, the devs use a bullshit excuse to cover for MS's DRM policy. And in GT5, you could play the game without the long update if you didn't have an internet connction, but you won't do that in Forza.

And :bro: for GTR2, it is an amazing sim.

What happens then? You log-in and download the obligatory Day1 patch, together with some additional content (or not).
But who says you can't stay offline afterwards?

Ok, it's a console and all and people prefer that you can put in a cartridge/disk and simply start playing.
But haven't we moved past this since XBox360/PS3 anyway?
I mean, they are nothing more than unified PCs nowadays...

Don't know, but to me it smells more like a way to sell unfinished games earlier and delivering the missing stuff later. Still shitty, but a different kind of shitty.

that is not what we are talking about. we are talking about you needing to log in and then having to download day0 dlc in order to get the full game, meaning it's just the usual 0day dlc bullshit against used games sales or borrowing your game to friends.

Is it? I assumed it is just an extended day0/1 patch. Did they say anything about it being pre-order exclusive or sold separately?
Just in case I missed that (might be, haven't read it that carefully).

Sure, if you have no (fast) internet (or a restricted one), you can't play it, or not fully at least.
Sucks of course.

But anyway, Day0 DLC is for me something for additional monetization - you remove something that would otherwise be in the game and sell it back. Here it seems they basically admitted that they won't manage to finish the game in time for when it should go gold and therefore rely on a huge digitally distributed content patch.
Although I wonder how far "logging in" goes.

The day 0 DLC is there as DRM since anyone who buys or is given a used copy will have to purchase the "DLC" for their account in order to have the complete game. I imagine that the stripped down version will lack all of the 'cool' cars and tracks.

It's not exactly as good as it sounds:

(...) this is yet another example of them changing policy, but it sounding better than it is when the whole story is revealed. Make no mistake; while this is a great thing, it's again not the equivalent to what other platforms offer. On PS4, for example, developers can tap right into the system; use every bit of RAM and all of its power. Indies have access to everything that the AAA studios do, from platform support to development and release. The indication on Xbox One is that it's essentially XBLIG 2.0. Instead of XNA, it's Windows 8. Windows 8, which is already struggling to gain developer interest, will gain a boost from developers wishing to target the console. However, it won't be as full-fledged as published games on the system.

In other words, indies will be allowed only to develop apps with limited access to the system in a sort of Windows Store environment.

They're doing so many 180s with it it'll wind up being an actual 720, just without the name.

Xbox tornado, changing directions so fast that they create class 5 winds. It also sucks away all of your money, property, and rights. :kwanzania:
