Is there any one of these things that allows you to construct buildings based on original designs? It doesn't even have to be an rpg.

Really? I skim read the wiki article on it and it sounds like it is more focused on orginisms. I am looking for something that might be useful as an architectural program so that wall textures, doors, windows etc would perhaps all occupy various palettes or tilesets while terrain would also be variable. Are the buildings depicted as goofy as the cover art?
Does this game do any of that?

So, it has developed from an idiotic social media game to something actually useful?

Well I doubt he'd have put it up on Steam if he didn't think he could finish it within a few months. And being a one-man production means it is more likely to be finished as his income is tied directly to sales. If it's a larger studio with publisher than you have a bunch of mo's who are happy to delay it as long as possible while they continue to draw a paycheck.

If he's an indie, one guy, then he should've gone through Greenlight, right? I don't see anything about Greenlight on the Steam page.

It is odd how he got past Greenlight although: 1) his blog says he has worked ten years in the industry for larger developers so maybe he knows people at Valve; or 2) Valve is sort of putting the kibosh on Greenlight as it didn't work out as well as they thought. It's apparent from them Greenlighting massive amounts of games (around 30-50 at a time versus the 10 or so they used to do).

One of the videos had the town burning, so I assume you can either fuck things up directly or at least indirectly.

This looks like a game I have been waiting for a few years. Just peaceful medieval village building without shallow and forced combat hamfisted in.

Btw, shouldn't this be moved to Sim&City Building forum?

Ah, yes. I played that a few years back, just for some reason remembered the graphics as being a bit more primitive. I think it might be time for some rough 'n tumble again, so maybe I'll go looking for it again. If it runs on Win7, that is.
