Speaking of X-COM... Any chance of seeing this playthrough to its bitter end?

Thought I could silently let it slip to page 20 and unnoticed die out. Well not really, but not reasonless it didn't continue.

At the end of last year my harddrive gave up, and I haven't found yet a way to restore the full data. I replaced it with a new one, but I still have the old harddrive here, not only does it contain the savegame and recorded progress but also my whole data storage of course.

Obviously I don't have a backup but I could partially rescue the data but I got lazy to continue with it. If at least the savegame is somewhere buried in that mess I should look for it and continue. The bad thing is I also had recorded the next update, so I also need to recover that movie file or there will be quite a skip.

Sounds like a lame excuse, doesn't it?

Nah, it's ok.

It keeps people guessing whether it is possible for a mortal to do it at all or not. I am fine with this outcome.

If you ever recover the save, though, I'd love to see the final assault on T'leth with just 3 men (or potentially, even less). Though probably with MC it would not be overtly hard.

...this will carry on and stay the course to the last man or the ultimate alien is slain...
And that is what is going to happen, unless my computer explodes this time or some heart attack strikes me down. After some professional data recovery I have nearly the whole data recovered. Currently im looking for a new hoster to store the screenshots.

This is going to continue.

Aftermath

As promised, the madness continues finally. :)

The Alien base is down and the remaining soldiers return.
The lobsterman commanders are captured and the aliens seem to realise us finally as a striking force and potential threat.

Activity all around the world skyrokets and the fate of humanity lays in hand of just three remaining souls.

The war goes on, more brutal and bloodier than ever. May the gods be with us.

Aquatoid escort ship on a resource raid detected, shortly later it sets down during the night.

No real threat, should be an easy mission even at night.

As usual the tanks do the scouting job...

... and we break through their defense lines.

Smooth and easy we make our way towards the alien vessel.

Asides a nearly trashed tank, not mutch struggle...

... and the mission is finished without losses.

A small ship led by Gillman, shot down previous to the base attack.

Another mission that starts out smooth with not mutch resistance on sides the aliens.

Overboard scores some kills.

Just as we are about to storm the alien ship, this Gillman jumps out of his cover and destroy the aqua jet tank
with a grenade.

Blagrar executes him.

Moving on and finish the mission.

The loss of the 54 score points is a pitty, but not mutch of a problem due to the successfull base attack.
And that tank can easily get replaced, money ain't a big deal anymore.

The Manta finally is finished and shipped over to the outpost, short on Aqua Plastic to start the production
of another.

Tinderli reports a breaktrough and the scientists start working on the ammunition.

After many unsuccessfull interceptions almost at the end of the month we strike.

The mission starts out unpleasant and the Tank directly takes some critical damage.

Overboard cuts his way through the Gillman...

... fails a reaction shot and takes a frontal hit in return, gladly the Ion absorbed the damage.

After a few more turns and kills the tank takes another hit and is destroyed.

Overboard takes that Gillman down and finishs the mission.

Badly need to order new tanks and realize that I've gotten a bit careless with those "easy" missions.

The production of another Manta can begin.

A scout for a base attack mission is detected, we shoot it down but I don't attempt the mission without tanks.

Two medium sized ships are spottet the last day of the month around mediterranean area likely an invasion.

Without tanks to backup the crew im forced to act to avoid the worst.

Blagrar goes for the Gillman armed with a pulsar launcher.

To avoid bad suprises, the crew fires everything it got.

Overboard gets hit by a thermal shock bomb, looks like they want us alive.

Mostely unharmed we make it to the ship.

Nuking our way into the command centre of the ship we invade from above.

Blagrar checks for possible commanding survivors around the destroyed ship controls.

Overboard clears the area around the ships engines.

A nuke takes out most of the remaining aliens defending the second floor.

Overboard and Blagrar hunt down the few remaining and finish the mission.

A risky mission but it went all well.

The other medium sized cruiser led by aquatoids gets shot down, not going to run this mission without tanks.

The next month is pure survival, we need to get ready for the final battle.

Final battle? Don't you have to destroy the Synomium devices (or whatever they were called) in auxiliary alien outposts first?

I guess with auxiliary alien outposts you ment the artefact sites, the UFOpedia or some other source ingame mentions that those 12 locations need to be destroyed by all means if I remember right. Likely a first planned but later scrapped game feature, because there will infact only pop up as many artefact site locations as mentioned in the UFOpedia if they get destroyed.

But to win the game, attempting those missions is no necessity.

Yes, I meant the artifact sites. And now I'm gonna go punch myself in the face for not realizing that the UFOPedia lied and there's no need to do them. Talk about tedious.

All things considered, I would probably have chickened out on those night missions, had I been in your shoes. In other words: :salute:

Survival

Time is the worst enemy

Invention on the Sonic Pistol clip gets finished...

... and work on the badly needed Sonic oscillator can begin.

A new tank gets shipped to the main base.

Many ships are sighted, in search of the base locations.

They were unable to localize us so far and unaware just pass by.

Finally Tinderli reports that research on the Sonic Oscillator is finished and the scientists get to work on the
alien origins.

The next Manta is finished production and Sonic Oscillator production is initiated.

The Mantas get equipped, now they are nearly unstoppable.

Time to start the production of Sonic Displacers.

Research on the alien origins is completed, science on a new fighter transport begins.

The scores for this month are good in the negatives and I'll need to fix this up soon.

A large ship is detected, promptely interceptet and blastet to the ground.

A medium ship landed during the night, led by Aquatoids. Lets do this for the score.

Without sight the tank checks the area, triggers reaction fire and is hit by thermal shock out of nowhere.
Not really the smartest move in the aliens repertory.

A few flares should help to get some decent vision.

Directly two of them appear in sight the killing spree can begin.

Blagrar launches a torpedo from inside ship...

... them both are wiped out immediately.

Overboard throws another flare illuminateing the area on the other side of the Triton.

The tank on advance spots another one of the alienbrood.

Overboard critically missed a aimed Plasmacannon shot.

Blagrars turn to nuke the aliens ass into nirvana.

The other tank spots the alien ship on the upper left of the map.

Progression further to the areas on the right side of the map.

The whole outer area seems cleared.

Just as we are about to push forward to the alien ship, a previously unseen aquatoid appears on the field.

A clean shot wipes him out.

The tank holding position at the entrance of the alien vessel takes a hit and some good amount of damage,
subsequently kills him on its own turn.

While the coelacanth guards the ship entrance, the plasma tank floats up to attack from above.

Blagrar blasts a gap into the ships hull on the top level.

The displacer fails his shot on a heavy armed Aquatoid without enough TUs remaining to seek cover.

The alien launches a direct shot nuke from inside attempting to hit tank but instead hits the wall utterly
destroying the ship level.

Another alien opens fire, the tank is hit by plasma fire.

I see no other option than to retreat the tank for the moment, Blagrar is out of rockets so Overboard and
me charge forward.

A turn later Overboard ends up under molecular control...

... and opens fire on me.

Badly wounded I seek cover in the dark and retreat towards the Triton. Blagrar gets the medkit ready.

Blagrar fixes up the lethal wounds and pumps me up with pain killers.

Overboard remains under psy attack his morals dropped to zero and he'll be immobile the next turns randomly
opening fire in berserk mode.

The plasma tank moves back up to the top for another ambush this time scoring a kill...

... then charges forward into ship body and spots another two.

On the aliens turn another one moves into sight...

...the one of them armed with a pulsar launcher fires again at the tank, this time precisely hits and blows the
tank to pieces.

Overboard still remains under molecular control.

I'm again moving foward to the ship.

Under molecular control Overboard moves towards the ships entrance, drops a grenade and turns the tank
into a pile scrap metal.

The next couple of turns Overboard stands panic-fueled infront of the ships entrance.

Me arrives at ship and entering it through a gap in ships hull taking out one of the higher ranked Aquatoids.

Two more aliens hit the ground and some must've been in panic...

... certainly not this one as he jumps around the corner and opens fire on me.

The two on the other side of the ship decide to suicide and blow themselves up with grenades.

:retarded:

The psionic attacks are surmounted and the recent kills stabilized Overboards morals.

I'm confronting the one that seeked cover behind the door and immedialy afterwards meet up with
Overboard.

Again a lethal wound gets fixed up and I move on in search of the last alien brood.

What a coward.

This mission got me sweating, now off to a rather lenghty holiday.

Cool.

Something tells me that you'll have to solo the last mission. With your own alter ego, no less.

Would be fitting for such a crazy LP.

Now that he has a manta with sonic oscillators, he can probably rack up enough score just shooting subs down to last another month. Unless he gets hit with a base mission.

Stays the course

The goal will be to end this month with a positive score, that'll buy us enough time to allow for at least two months the preparation of the final counterstrike.

With the recent missions the score is evened out, for now.

Production of urgently required tanks get started on in the workshops.

A medium sized alien ship is intercepted and forced to ground.

The work on the sonic tanks is completed, time to stock up on torpedos for the heavy tanks.

Hammerhead is invented and science on the MC Reader is initiated.

A tiny scout in search of base locations appears on the scanners, but is quickly confronted and completely destroyed.

The Triton is send out to salvage the force landed Aquatoid medium sized ship.

A heavy weapon arsenal allows to pretty mutch simply rush through the mission.

Quite some are equipped with thermal shock launchers, entirely ineffecitve as they face the tanks.

And those quite dangerous ones equipped with disruptor launchers are appropriately dealt with.

For most parts of the mission Blagrar and Overboard remain in or around the Triton to avoid psionic attacks.
Especially Overboard is really frail to it.

Gaps all over the ships hull and collapsed baffles in the inners allow for the tanks to freely invade and roam.

But most of them moved around the outside anyways.

The inside of the ship is swiftly cleared without remarkable resistance.

While scouting the area for leftovers, a tank hovering above ground gets hit by a nuke and is destroyed.

Overboard kills him with a grenade and finishs the mission.

Another 248 score points, the tank shouldn't be a problem to replace quickly.

Scanners detect a large ship populated by lobsterman, the Mantas are send out to intercept but it escapes.

Shortly later they launch an island attack, the Triton is send out to check the situation.

A tank directly takes two reactionshot hits.

Okay... situation checked. Do not want to mess with those and retreat.

Could be worse.

The score hit wasn't that bad, as long as I can keep it in the positives this month it should be fine.

The last Workshop required to swiftly produce the Leviathan is finished.

Now that we've got a good stock of P.W. Torpedos some more Tanks are required and the production begins.

Some easy points I do not want to pass up.

Quick and easy 137 points.

One more successful mission and the councils clemency should be a safe bet, then the next months can be entirely
deticated to prepare the final counterstrike.

Would that help to make the LP more interesting? The next month isn't recorded yet. I don't think that would be possible, especially if I do not take any tanks aboard, but sure, I could try it with a single soldier if desired.

I had read that more as a prediction of things going southward soon, rather than an actual recommendation. While it would obviously be awesome if you pulled it off, I imagine it also to be really tedious to actually play the final mission that way.

I meant the other two might die the way things are going, but you are guaranteed to survive since you are currently in the hospital.

Of course, take the tanks with you. The only way I can see you doing this is taking a blaster launcher with 70 bombs and carpet bombing everything.

One More

Time to finish this month... finally.

A detected supply cruiser led by Gillman tasked to build a new colony - need to stop.

Subsequently engaged and shot down by a Manta.

Possibly the last mission this month and a success ensures a good final score.

Heavy firepower aboard to avoid risks.

As usually the tanks scout the area, Blagrar and Overboard score the kills from a distance out of reactionfire reach.

Invasion of the alien vessel from two directions, the tanks cut through the defending units...

... works very well.

Blagrar storms the ships command centre.

A Gillman soldier on the bottom level freaks out and reveals his position with random fire.

One falls but another hidden Gillman opens fire on the damaged tank and destructs it.

On his way towards the bottom floor, Blagrar runs into the enemy and the mission is done.

Great score.

Replacement for the lost tank is quickly produced.

New invention and more research in progress.

Skipped.

Well, happy to see this revived!
For some reason I have a hard time to fluently continue, but I'll finish this lets play as promised. Sorry for the seldom updates.

It's easy to burn yourself out on an lp. There is no harm in letting an lp linger for a while - after all, the whole thing should be fun for the viewers and the lper and not turn into a chore.
