Nice art, but who the fuck are you and why should I give you my money husbando and waifu? If this project makes it's goal, I'm going to pay an artist to make some isometric paintings and cash the fuck in.

I actually thought this was going to be a single-character adventure.

An 8 person party? Sounds good to me. Awaiting news on races and classes, as well as footage of party-based combat.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 BattleTech Bubbles In Memoria A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit. Pathfinder: Wrath
The Story

Astral terrors of the night roam the darkest dungeons and strange animated unnatural beasts roam the lands. Your party has been gifted a powerful item to protect and as the story unfolds it will become something to protect your party when the time it right.

Wat.

Also, who are these people, any credentials? No team, the video is just a bunch of screens?

This pitch does not look particulary convincing.

:hmmm: I don't feel like coming down hard on this game since it's a Codex member's project, but ffs people, you see pretty graphics and you lose all common sense? You can't make that game for $85,000. Not that it's going to make that goal anyway.

Ya I just looked more in that other forum linked, and realized it was a codexer. I'm sorry, but I cannot back this game without people in front of a camera telling me why they're passionate, what their credentials are, and how they're going to effectively manage this project. Why would I care about stats or skills or talents without any explanation as to how they'll interplay? I think this was a poor launch, and I think their going to ruin their momentum. It is a shame though, because the art is damn good. I don't know if they're better served by experiencing what I predict to be a failed campaign, or just cancelling it now and going back to the pre-KS phase that needs another 6 months of polish.

I see some interesting things, but the kickstarter is bit sparse in what it tells me about the game. Like, I see you mentioning stats and Fortitude, Toughness and Stamina all slide by. What’s the difference between them and what can I do with them? I know what other RPGs do with stats like those, but not what your RPG does. Right now you’ve got the art to draw the audience in, but not the means to keep their attention and if I hadn't read the workshop thread you would have lost mine, too.
Aren’t you also underselling yourself with that low price for the first tier? It doesn’t have a limit to it, so people might think that that is the standard price for the game.

Also, no pressure, but your competition for the husband and wife duos in kickstarters is Serpent in the Staglands, so my expectations are sky-high. :desu:

Still going to keep my eye on it. At the very least, you’ve got my attention regardless of whether you succeed or fail here.

We'll see how it goes. I agree that the lack of a pitch and a face will hurt a lot though. Shows a lack of effort put into the KS campaign which is never a good thing. I like the promised features and the game looks good visually.
Not fair to call out on people for "losing common sense" over nice graphics tho. You ignore the fact that people lost their shit over projects that have had nothing to show initially but promises and we saw how well those have turned out to be (WL2, PoE). This KS at least has something tangible to offer, even if it isn't much.

They also had veteran RPG devs, records of previously published games, and credits in some of the codex's all-time greatest RPGs. Backing this takes a lot of faith, and frankly a bit of unsensible fapping over isoart porn at the moment. If it makes the goal I'll be excited to buy it, if and when it's released. Granted, that's if they hire on their additional random team members qualified to program crpgs.

The big name projects had well-known names names with previous works on their resume, which in its own way provides a lot of information on what the kickstarter games were going to be like. Not to say that that's the best way to judge a project, but it reflects how the lion-share of backers mostly base their decision to pledge on the gut feeling a project gives them. You now also have people getting more watchful regarding scams, so coming across as capable and genuine in your desire to make the game is even more important.

It’s fucked up, but an indie-game kickstarter has to work many times harder than an established name, because the starting assumption is that you’re just a hack.

I think a good example of how to run a succesful kickstarter as an indie developer is the That Which Sleeps kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kingdinosaurgames/that-which-sleeps/description
They had a strong pitch to pull people in, plenty of information to keep you interested and a steady stream of information to show their dedication. The Strategy forum thread on that is also a good source.

Seem too pretty to be true....gonna take the bait for now. With my feeling that RPG/Old-School are the new buzz word for KS , they are throwing a lot of eye catching keywords without going in depth. Only thing to do now is sit tight and wait for more meaty info.

The pitch material sounds like the sort of thing that would be good, but it would seem they really need to dial it up in every direction on the updates to come to get some real momentum and more of a feeling behind this.

I almost wish KS would automatically first send anybody intent on creating a project of this sort to a highlights reel page of sorts featuring the moderate-highly successful forerunners just to drive home that better wrought and more successful endeavors are better for everybody.

Oh dear. What a trainwreck of a pitch. Going by Apexeon's forum signature, I hoped he would've had some sort of a prototype for the pitch and a lot more information about the underlying systems. Now the pitch is just way too vague and typo-ridden with the same backgrounds he's been posting in the workshop thread.

Some of those tiles/assets seriously look like they've been taken from IWD 1/2. I'm especially talking about the snow-themed areas we see in their video.

It'd be nice to have more crpgs with interesting settings/plot/characters, here's to hoping Aloran won't be another Rorgotten Fealms theme-park.

His graphics are pretty awesome but it's more of a failed pitch for publicity than anything else - unfortunately, it's not year 2012 and people are not as eager to throw their kickstarter money on anything they see, irregardless of author or whatever conditions. The features are also a bit too codexian for their own good (and codex is not a great target audience, I must say). I mean, no one but a codexian will care about hard counters (not to mention that the problem is definitely not in the hard counters and, actually, PoE has a number of them) and even to the average RPG fan the features will sound too condensed and unclear, I think.

:keepmymoney:Withdrew my pledge, at least for now. The lack of any activity (pimping the KS on the Codex, answering questions on their KS page or otherwise) from the devs part doesn't really inspire me with confidence. They should be engaging the community and potential backers while the iron is hot instead of vanishing as soon as the KS page goes up.

TBH, I think that's the burnout from the really bad start of the campaign - I bet that after busting their asses for 2 years (that's probably minimum), they've expected something better than that. Judging by my own greenlight experience, lack of attention/support/interest can really destroy your will to do anything with this crap. At least temporary. So I think we should give them a bit of time to recover and then we'll see - they've started a long campaign, after all.

Sure, I can understand that. I'm still going to keep an eye on this campaign so I'm not just giving up on it. I'm just holding on to my shekels a bit longer until they can impress me with something more than just nice pre-rendered backgrounds. I like the feature list since it is very Codexian as you put it, but I'd like to see if this project has a face and if that face can elaborate a bit more. That said, anyone going to KS should do so knowing that it's going to be an uphill battle where you have to fight tooth and nail.

It looks like for some reason the KS was launched a few weeks early. On April 7th, Apexeon planned to launch the campaign in about 8 weeks.

Wow, this is beyond pathetic. You should have tinkered away to develop a working prototype to use in the video instead of stills. It all reeks of unprofessional-ism, like you have big things planned in your head (like us all) but you could end up bored and quit at any moment.

At the very least say you are a gay developer or transvestite or some sort of a retarded gimmick to get more pledges.
