and meet a trading caravan. Unfortunately, we can't attack and raid it (yet). Hopefully the devs will implement it at some point, as playing as scumbag mercs waylaiding caravans and running from patrols would be cool.

We asked the devs about that at some point. Turning to bandirty is not one of their planned features as the world is meant to be humans vs monsters. :negative:

3. Seriously, Fuck Dogs

Previously on Codex Brothers: We got to Wallstadt in one piece.

We get a new mission (not pictured): find a lair to the west, avoid confrontation. Quests so far in the game are very banalshitboring, unfortunately, but that's one of the things that are very WIP, according to the devs. Looking forward to some more interesting ones.

We find it and get the fuck out.

Easy money.

Another mission: escorting a caravan. Something a bit more interesting.

Only problem is that our destination is on the other side of the world. Oh well.

We visit the tower but find nothing interesting to buy nor no one to recruit.

We enter Bogenheim and hire a replacement for our dearly departed Helly.

Obadiah's a cultist. Nothing unique about him. He gets a scimitar and a shield.

Random event! As BROS DON"T LEAVE BROS IN COLD BOLD BRO, we send them in the wrong direction.

Our BROness paid off, a new recruit joins our ranks.

This is Zed. He's a strong (bonus hitpoints) vagabond. He gets what's left in our stash.

Marching onwards...

Onwards...

Onwar-WAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTT

OH FUCK, WE'RE SO SCREWED.

Werewolves have high Initiative and always move first. They're also incredibly fast and can get three attacks per turn, plus additional one if they kill someone. In other words, we really don't like fighting against them.

What's worse is that terrain is bad. Terribru. Meat Slapper and Nevill are pretty much stuck up there and will have to fight against four werewolves on their own. You don't want to fight against four werewolves on your own.

Meanwhile, Gondolin shoots and even hits.

Obadiah misses.

As does Meat Slapper. This is not looking good.

Nevill forms shieldwall.

Meat Slapper gets hit...

Twice. RIP Suicidal Meat Slapper, you slapped a lot of meat :salute:

Meanwhile Whitewolf's spearwall slowed down a werewolf's charge nicely. Bro still got hit in the head, but his cap holds.

A caravan hand gets killed.

Obadiah get two strikes in and heavily injures a werewolf.

Whitewolf finishes him off.

Nevill just hopes to survive.

He's not dead yet!

Werewolves doing werewolfy stuff.

Zed gets a hit, but doesn't kill.

Caravan guard does, however.

Gondolin is useless this time.

Nevill uses Shield Bash to push and get rid of one werewolf. That's three less attacks coming at him.

He's holding!

The caravan guard is not, though.

The werewolf just pummels through two lightly armored caravan guards.

The fallen wolf gets gangbanged and nearly killed by a caravan guard and Whitewolf.

Finally another guard finishes the job. There are still four furries left.

Three, thanks to two good hits by a guard.

Nevill still refuses to go down. :salute:

The werewolf dodges spearwall and attacks Obediah, who counterattacks unsuccessfully.

Andnjord runs to help and hits.

Nevill is getting really tired now.

Which doesn't end well for him. RIP Nevill, you held long, but not long enough :salute:

Obediah gets mauled. RIP Obediah, your mercenary career was much too short :salute:

Human fighters are on the brink of breaking. Things don't look good.

Zed gets hit but is alive - for now.

He strikes his opponent, but not hard enough.

Gondolin hits! Not that it did any significant damage.

Andnjord strikes again, but that damned werewolf refuses to die.

Two more dead guards. Welp.

Whitewolf hits two times - and the furry still lives. Damn it.

While the second almost dead werewolf kills poor Andnjord. RIP Andnjord, it was a close call :salute:

The furry also strikes Zed. Zed breaks and soils his pants. He tries to get the fuck out of this mess, giving the werewolf an attack of opportunity...

...but he somehow dodges the strike and manages to flee.

Caravan guard avenges Andnjord.

Whitewolf finally disposes of his opponent. One enemy left.

Somehow another guard gets a hit in and kills the final werewolf. WE DID IT!

But at what cost. Two of the starting members, Andnjord and Nevill, are dead, as well as our most dangerous brother, Meat Slapper. Also the rookie Obediah, while Zed is barely alive. :salute:

We salvage whatever we can and try to get over our losses.

:( fuck you and your caravan.

At least we can restock here a bit.

Whitewolf, our only remaining founding member, levels up. (also gets a better helm)

Gondolin too.

We hire two new faces.

Jerkajerka will have the difficult task of trying to replace Meat Slapper. He's a lumberjack that's dastardly (low morale) but also has increased accuracy.

Finally, Zdzisiu's a farmhand that will serve as a meatshield. We can't even buy a decent armor in this fucking shithole.

That's the end of part three.

Well werewolves are deadly even against a decently leveled Company, it's not a surprise to see such a bloodbath.
Also as the last founding member it's my duty to remember the brave comrades who perished :hero:

Reporting for duty motherfuckers :salute:

(Is Dastardly the one with a morale cap or the one that starts out every battle with low morale?)

As we all know and as the update has stealthily reminded us with its title every member of our band dies at the mysterious hoverdog's whims we salute are fallen comrades and hope for a future where dogs don't lead men to death.

Well, that was...

:badnews:

I will return, one way or another. There needs to be someone who is skilled at slapping the meat. As for the rest of you, you're quite fucked for the time being. :salute:

Dang it! I could have survived that, nay I should have survived that. Oh well, Matnjord, Andnjord brother volunteers as a new meatshield of whatever background to wield the mighty Billhook (or pike). Fear not Meat Slapper, we shall come back. Onward for glory!

EDIT; Thread delivers all its promised gory glory. :bro: to you Hoverdog

IMO go with the sword next time, Riposte continues to work even if you miss.

Thought that you had a ton of recruits and wouldn't need fresh ones but it really does look like TftD-esque refresh rates. Delicious.

TheBiz signing on for great death, give me an Apprentice background if you can.

Welp, that was faster than what I had expected

If you need fresh recruits, consider recruiting Arkham, Obadiah's twin brother. Same background and weapon of choice.

4. Two Bandits With One Stone

Previously on Codex Brothers: we get horribly raped but manage to finish escorting the caravan.

There's nothing more to do in Arbegen. We decide to check out the last, northern town.

We stop in the tower for a while.

And recruit Ulminati. He's a hunter with good morale.

We also buy a better armor for Whitewolf, our most experienced brotha.

We reach Wiesendorf and get a fresh contract.

Great, now we have to reach Wallstadt again.

Rahdulan joins our forces. He's a farmhand that's got good traits and high morale. Unfortunately we don't have any money to properly outfit him.

An event without any consequences.

We find a lair and decide to investigate.

Perfect. Thugs are probably the easiest enemies in the game, and we can tackle them now without much fear. It's still can get bloody, of course. Like in TFTD.

And this group is really poorly equipped too.

Gondolin misses both shots.

Rahdulan pushes the enemy away with his pitchfork.

Enemy archer grazes Whitewolf's head.

Ulminati misses.

Gondolin, however, manages to hit two times, though different targets.

Rahdulan misses this time.

Thug charges and stuns Jerkajerka. Not good.

Whitewolf deals heavy damage but doesn't kill.

Zdzisiu can't connect.

but Jerkajerka wakes up and finishes the job, killing two bandits with a massive swing.

Rahdulan and Zdzisiu hit their targets.

Bandit hits Rahdulan, but it's nothing serious yet.

Jerkajerka's sword must have scared thug shitless, as he tries to flee but is cut down by the brother's massive sword.

Whitewolf kills another one in two strikes.

Zdzisiu finishes off his enemy.

Rahdulan almost does the same with his.

But soon even the bandit is dead thanks to Zed.

The remaining marksman flees and we are unable to catch him.

Good job everyone! A clean victory with Jerkajerka stepping right into Meat Slapper's shoes.

Meh loot, but at least some gold.

Zed levels up.

As does Jerkajerka.
(should I post these screens everytime a brother gets a promotion, or just make a text note about it?)

We reach the main road and find a bandit party chasing a caravan. Duty calls.

These bandits are a bit better equipped, but we have reinforcements.

Ulminati misses.

Bandits move towards the hill.

So obviously we put a spearwall there.

They cleverly avoid our ranks.

Except for one dumbfuck. His days are counted.

Zdzisiu makes short work of him.

Whitewolf gets a headshot.

Jerkajerka almost kills the lumberjack.

Gondolin finishes him off.

This is a very one-sided affair.

Even Ulminati hits someone.

Nice job, Whitewolf.

Rahdulan finishes a bandit previously wounded by guards.

Another thug falls.

Ulminati kills one more.

Whitewolf and Zed take care of the last one.

Splendid display, bros. Another flawless victory and everyone got a kill (except for Jerkajerka, but he had four last time).

Meh loot again, except for maybe those two axes.

We finalize the delivery.

Levelups all around.

We also hire Jaedar. Farmhand, shit traits (low resolve).

We end part four here.

Two battles in a row and no casualties? What is this faggotry?:rpgcodex:

...Yes, I'm still butthurt about dying to a werewolf who should have been killed long before he had a chance to smack me.:negative:

EDIT: Spoiler screens for level up sound like a good idea.

Hey hey, I survived. :D

I vote for keeping the level up screens, but maybe spoiler them if a bunch happens at the same time.

I'd vote for using spoilers for the level-up's.

I'm still waiting to see all of the experiences mercs to die so the newbies are left with nothing and all die in true TftD fashion.

Hoo boy, looks like my aim is going to be shit. By the way - I'm a big fan of making archers go into the utility tree myself. There's some really nice high tier talents (like th eone that reduces fatigue), and non-melee bros can get away with the investment easier.

He's not going to be seeing a witch hunter for some time, I think.
Well if some backgrounds are harder to get than others then I don't care what I get. I don't really care what weapon either.
